Susan big (((((HUGS))))) for both you and Ranger. I lost my 17 year old gardening buddy Buffy last month....Lauri

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I keep toying with the idea of getting a puppy, but I back off when I think of all the work and expense taking them to the vet.
I never had a dog when I was growing, so when I married, and my husband hunted rabbits, we got a beagle. He was such a cute thing. I got all the shots of course. When he was about a year old, he became sick. I took him to the vet who discovered that the pads on his feet were hard. He had distemper!! No one had told me that his distemper was a TEMPORARY distemper shot and he would have to come back in for another one when he was older.
My spousal unit has started another job. Now that he got the sink into the greenhouse, he has started widening the driveway. It comes straight up the driveway (and I do mean UP, as we live in the mountains) and right by the front door, barely beyond the rafters. Visitors are always having a hard time turning around and getting back down without running all over the bottom of the rock garden. It will be really great, open up a little more sunlight and stop me from hopping up and directing traffic everytime someone comes up here.

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

MaryE....yes, yes, YES, that's the picture! Thank you so much. I remember on the original post I didn't see the Llama until you pointed it out. It is back on my "wallpaper" for Spring. I am shameless about "lifting" pictures for myself, I've had one of a field of Canadian Geese with a backdrop of a snow covered mountain for awhile now. I don't remember who posted it, but thank you!

I just can't get enough of your Mary's little lambs pictures. Such hard work, but so rewarding! Being a city gal it's a great reminder that the pioneer spirit that made this country great is still alive and obviously working well!

P.S. Hi everybody ~~~

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Morning everyone - woke up to about 5 inches of the white stuff. Now I would be thrilled to see it if it were Dec, but it is March and I am sick of it!! But we're supposed to get rain later in the week and that will wash it away.

Mg- laughed about your comment about P Allen - I suspected as much - he still is a nice speciman to look at tho!!

One trellis is completed. It looks sturdy enough to climb on! They are not the gorgeous, swirley kind, but are built to withstand my wild sweet autumn clematis. I can't believe DH finished one in a day. He must have really stepped up the speed! While we were at Menards yesterday, three pkgs of dahilas hopped into my basket - I blame that on Molly for teasing us all - buying all those plants...now I feel better....

Lauri - hope the pain in the neck is gone. I had a neck pain sneak up a couple of years back - ended up in agony - bulging disc, pressing against a nerve - went thru a ton a meds and finally my chiro fixed me. Nasty pain...like labor pains in my arm!

Would you believe I bought some mullens!! And they are weeds!! I kinda liked them..... Mine just showup wherever in the garden how - they sure are bee magnets!!

Vi - hope all that roughage worked for DH - I'd stay out of the direct line to the throne however - he may be explosive!! LOL When I had my last surgery, they ended up giving me an enema - then wouldn't believe me when I told them it worked - they wanted to see for themselves....give me a break....

Time to wash the locks and try and rearrange them into something that won't scare others!!

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Good morning! Will life ever slow down a little! I had just gotten home from the grocery yesterday when we got a call from one of DS's friends mothers. He rolled a go cart and broke his arm. Spent a couple hours in the ER and got a splint put on it. Just talked to the Orthopedic Dr. and he will need to have a plate put in. He is scheduled for later this afternoon. I'm am waiting for his office to call with the details. Poor kid couldn't eat after midnight, I was hoping they would take him this a.m. He was more upset about the not eating part than the broken arm.

I havn't had a chance to go back and catch up on everyone yet. I did get as far as Mary's lambie pictures. I always look forward to your pictures. The area out there is just gorgous.

Well, I'm going to go sneak in a little breakfast before DS gets up. I can't eat in front of him, would make him crazy. I also need to call work.

Will be back after I get a little housework done.

See ya!

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Suzie, WOW what a way to start a day with a grumpy, hungry kid!! I hope all is going to be o.k. with him. Mary I too love the lamb storys, if I lived close by you I'd be buying bummers from you!! We used to raise beef and I have had many sick calves in the bathtub, but never in bed with DH....I'll check back in later off to get ready to go to the DR.... Lauri

Well, sounds to me like some of y'all are starting off with "Mondays".

Suzie~ ... so so sorry to hear about that!! Please keep us up to date. Ouch ... a broken arm is *no* fun. I've never broken mine, although I sprained it severely one time and had it in a cast for 3 weeks. That was many years ago. Fell up a flight of steps!! Can you *believe* that? LOL LOL

Lauriwilson~ ... sure hope you get something to help you with your neck.

Kooger ... any reports on your son's girlfriend?

Sarv, can't *believe you're still waking up to the white stuff. Yuck!! Although I'll surely be complaining this summer, the weather is nice right now. Please please remind me of all this when I'm wining in July! :)

Well, got to go sleigh the laundry monster again. My DB called last night and he'll be coming this week-end ... then our company from MT will be here for the DH's 50th. Got to get my butt in gear and get some housework done this week. Where's Defoe? Sounds to me like she could do my curtains and cobwebs. :)

Hope everyone has a super day.
... Elaine

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Oh crappola, it's snowing again, or yet, it's hard to tell the difference. DH went out and cleared the soggy mess before he went to work and the drive is covered but it seems to be melting.

Elaine, my DD used to fall up the steps all the time. Her feet always seemed to be running ahead of her coordination. Must have gotten that gene from her mother. LOL

I confess. It's all my fault. Took the saltmobile to the car wash on Friday and look what happened. Wait, Ann did it too! So she can have the blame for the Canadian weather, and I'll take responsiblity for the yuck in the midwest. Pooooey, I am sick to death of this winter I WANT SPRING!!

Don't have much else to add this morning, just wanted to check in before I go around and pick up Sammi's trail of destruction. I should just tie a swiffer thing to his tail and let him collect the dust bunnies as he's tearing around like a stray missile.

Later...

Sheila

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

hi all! It's sunny again, 27 degrees, but no wind and you can just feel the heat of the sun on your skin, it's so much stronger. It's such a blessing. As the rest of the tundra folk know, March can get really depressing....it's like waiting in a crouch for the starters gun, for a month or more!

sarv~sorry you have snow. Yay on the trellis and mullein and dahlias!! Vote with your dollars, for SPRING! When do we get trellis pics?

suzie~ how old is your son? So sorry to hear of his broken arm. He needs a plate put in? It must be a pretty bad break. DD#1 has had five broken bones, the worst are in the spring/summer when it's hot and sweaty. She could never swim (or even bathe) but i guess you can get swimming casts now. Good luck with him,will have you both in my prayers today.

mg~Your posts and ways with words are such a hoot, PLEASE post more!

woodspirit~I look forward to pics of the completed landscaping. I love your greenhouse.

Susan~(((((Ranger)))))) As Elaine said,i can't go there. My older dog is going on 13. He's still active, but I know he's getting old. I can't imagine life without him. He's my best friend. I guess we all wish there was a way to make it easier.....

Mary~ The lambing stories are just fascinating, it's true it seems like pioneer living to us! (well, except for the lambulanceLOL) And the pictures just seem unreal, so unlike anything here. The lamb in bed wth DH beats all,and then the phone call with the lamb in the background....wouldn't be surprised if you guys had a "reputation" LOL

Elaine~I don't think anyone begrudges you your weather, you're very generous and share it with us!! Enjoy your pansies!! When i lived in NJ I used to put pansies in in March. Up here I'd need a jackhammer, and this was one of the warmest winters in history!

Ann~I enjoyed your description of the bell concert, wish there was some music to go with it. That too is fascinating to me, how you manage all the ringers. I have never had musical talent. The afghan is beautiful, i love the colors! I could knit anything but never got the hang of crocheting. one day i will!

defoecat~You are a kindred soul and inspiration. I'm avoiding the black hole like a plague. Took a long walk in the strong sunshine yesterday and looked for miracles all around. i've had to learn to take my mind off the "pollution" that people create, the anger, greed, nastiness, and focus on God's goodness all around. Sometimes it's a struggle, but i can always pray for people who are truly suffering instead of just focusing on my own grumpiness. It takes a lot of prayer for me. I guess the tendency to depression is my cross to bear, which can be as difficult as being sight or hearing impaired. Those who have been there, know.

Oz and kittymom~ I hope you get a soaking!!

bal~I'm loving your rock pictures and looking for rock inspiration. Oh i'm going to look like a bodybuilder by the time i get through my rock pile! I'm hoping for more tile pictures too!

lauri~Ouch on the neck. i've only had that once, and i couldn't drive, I was unable to check the mirrors.

Maria~Are you back to baking yet?

julie~I would love to place an order for embroidery if you have a website!

darius and molly~hi!! Y'all will be lying in you hammocks in your beautiful gardens while we're just getting started!!

Hi to everyone still to check in - I'll get back!*******waving***********

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

meezer~sorry you got the snow too. It is so depressing this time of year.

I say, make Sammi earn his keep, tie some swiffers to him!!!LOL

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Well, wrote a long post yesterday and lost it, and was still suffering the ill effects of the kids sharing their flu bug with me so I gave up. I just ran the vacuum, and clogged the stupid thing, so I had to take it all apart. At least you can see what color my dining room carpet is now. I don't understand why these kids can make such a mess! I ran the vacuum, emptied the dirt cup 2x, unclogged it, and gathered up about a half a 13 gallon garbage bag of trash, papers, and stuff that were scattered. That was just my dining room! I am afraid to go to the living room. The clean laundry monster is waiting there, and the dirty laundry monster is in the kitchen. I guess I'm stuck at the computer LOL I wish. I have to go to the post office sometime today, got like 20 bubble mailers to send out, eBay auctions and trades. Also got to hit a local home owned hardware store because they sell Livingston Seeds, and they are almost impossible to find. I'm gonna go wipe out the racks.

Slept until 1:30 yesterday (boy did I feel crappy) and then couldn't sleep last night. So I was up until almost 3, putting up new eBay listings, and then didn't fall asleep until around 4 or so. :( Got up at 6:30 with DS 15, to make sure he got his behind on the bus, then fought with the 4 yr old, he was still tired and didn't want to wear the clothes I had picked out for him. We almost missed his bus. At least the girls were not grumpy and got ready with no hassle. After missing 2 days last week they were ready to go back (and I was ready to send them).

Started to tackle the laundry monster, and realized DS 15 put a load in sometime over the weekend, and forgot it, so it was soured. That did wonders for my still queasy stomach :( So I dumped some Baking soda in and more detergent, and will throw them in the dryer as soon as they are done. I must have 7 or 8 loads to do, and that isn't counting my sheets. I have a clean set tho, so they can wait. Having well water and it being such a dry winter, I can only do about 3 loads a day, spread out or we run out of water :( Gonna try to get some of mine and DH's done, I think he is out of work clothes.

I need to go grocery shopping, but no so sure its gonna happen today. I'm really tired but I don't want to go back to bed, cause I"d like to sleep tonight LOL.

I've read through the posts, and hope that everyone in pain gets better, and Sue, hope your son doesn't drive you too crazy with the arm :(.

I am so ready for spring!!!

Janis

Ah Sarv, more snow??? Fine, keep it back there. Don't need any more cold weather here. Just keep thinking about the gardening seminars you just went to. Keep in mind the wonderful flowers that will be growing soon!
Mary, never got to tell you that I just love the lambie pics. I really like the pic with the lamb who has so much black on his face. What a cutie! I see lots of sheep and lambs here in the valley, but not up close. So thanks for the nature pic.
McCool, thanks for your ideas on what my son should do. He is the hands-on type and is looking into the auto mech. program at the community college. So we shall see...
Molly, just love the huge vegetable garden space. You will be full of vegetables this summer and can have free food.
Sheila, your DH stays in bad motels in AZ? Really. I have gone to AZ many times to visit my son and even the motel 6 aren't bad.

Well, today is D-day for me. My dad finds out today what the onocologist has to say. So will be waiting to hear from him. Keep your fingers crossed and have many good thoughts for him PLEASE!
The GP doc. gave him some anti-depressant (sp?) pills and he took one last week. What a distaster! He ended up sleeping in his bed for several days! That is not my dad at all! He never sleeps in his bed except at night time. So if you all wonder if it is worth taking anti-dep. pills, don't. There is a real difference between being depress or going thru depression. My dad was depressed due to all that has happened to him lately but does not have depression. My sister wanted the doc. to give him the medicine and I should have fought more.
So hope everyone has a good day today. Think SPRING IS COMING SOON!!!
As I01 likes, ```````````````waving```````````````` bye for now!

Carol~All the best for you and your dad today. I hope you get encouraging news. As far as depression goes, there are many medications and sometimes you have to try more than one, and they also take time to work. They must have given him something sedating. Hopefully he will be able to come to grips with the sadness. how can you not have sadness when looking at such life issues? He is lucky to have you in his corner!

Good luck today~

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Got a call from the Dr. Take son to Hosp. at 2:00. Said we may have to wait (yipee), but they definately want him operated on today. Someone asked how old he was, he's 18.

Sarv - so sorry you have snow again! Long range forecast for this area sound like it's going to get a little better. Near 70 by the weekend.

I went out in the yard this morning and did see some crocus blooming. I thought it was still much too cold for them. That was a nice reminder that Spring WILL get here soon. I have been starting some seed this morning. Hope they do better than last year.

Gotta go clean up my mess. Thanks for the good thoughts for DS. An 18 year old male who can't eat! I think I'd rather be trapped in a cage with a grizzly! LOL

Carol, am saying many prayers for your Dad today. Hope things work out for him. Depression is such a *hard* thing on top of everything else. I feel for him and am remembering him today. You are also in my thoughts and prayers as you try to make the decisions on how to best help him. Huge hugs are going out to you. :)

Suzi, please know that you and your DS are also in my thoughts and prayers today. Can't imagine being shut up with a hungry 18 year old!! Much less a hungry and hurting 18 year old. Poor thing! I'm trying to decide who to feel the sorriest for. LOL

Had a nice surprise a bit ago. Had a wonderful conversation with Meezers ... and also Sammy. Well, he was up to his tricks in the back ground, so I felt like I got to meet him, also. What an adoragle kitty. Made me want to reach through the phone and give him a squeeze. The entire time we were talking, half of my attention was secretly glued to his antics. Sorry Meezers ... didn't mean to slight you with only half of my attention. LOL LOL ;)

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

sobbbbbbb - I'm looking out the window and the snow is just coming down in sheets....how awful for March. It is warm enough that it is melting off the roads. As I was leaving for huff/puff I noticed a thingy on the front door - fed ex had been to deliver my new computer and I didn't hear them. Grrrr, now I have to go pick it up tonight after 5 and fight the traffic. I want it so badly, that I will do it tho!

I had a considerable CD come due and had been calling around for rates last week. I called our bank and asked if they would transfer my cd into my checking account. The manager asked if I was reinvesting and I said yes, but not with you!! I can find better rates. She told me she would check around and see if she could offer the same rate. Now I gave her my cell and home phone number and she still hasn't called me back - does it take 2 1/2 hrs to check? I hate being strung out.....

suz- good luck on the surgery for DS...18 yr old even with food are grouchy....

DR- crossing fingers for good news about DD. I would like to take something to make me happier....would DD share his pills?

Woof, glad to see you back up and semi-functioning. At least the kids are out of the house....tackle one room at a time and don't do too much!!

Waving to everyone else- gotta get off this (dial up) so the bank can get thru... taking MIL to heart doc this afternoon - be thinking of me....

I am up, cleaning, organizing photo albums, and am about to enjoy my nutritional lunch of jello and broth. This is the day before colonoscopy. So will be home all day,and close to the bathroom!!

You guys have been busy this morning. Some owies, some getting over the crud, some waiting for news from Dr., some with crappy weather, some lurkers who peek out from time to time.

DH has gone to the hospital to see DM. She is doing well, and may get to come home this week. Sure hope so, the hour trip to the hospital is wearing everybody out.

Made a few calls this morning about my DM. Just lining up things, for the time that she may not be able to be by herself. Always try to have things planned in advance.

DS was off work this morning and came by to have coffee with us. He stayed for awhile, and is not off to do some errands. He has a bad habit of turning on the tv, and I just about screamed, as I don't have it on until afternoon. Like my peaceful mornings.

To everybody, I am not gonna comment individually now, may be back later to do so.

~~~waving to all of you.
This is our weather right now. I’m going to shut the computer down as we have had the power flicker several times already. Our winds here on the bluff are topping out at 70 mph (have an anemometer on the roof) and I’m not willing to risk my ‘puter with a power surge. Take care ya’ll, have a blessed day and I send regards to all! ~Babs~
Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)
meezersfive - won't take any blame for bad weather here. It's gorgeous and sunny and has been ever since I washed the car. A little bit on the cold side today, but supposed to get warmer during the week. haven't heard a long-range prediction, but there's probably a chance of precip during the week, but if it's well above freezing later in the week, who cares. And for those who are getting snow, just remember that the sun has strength in March. The snow may come in large quantities, but it will also go quickly.
dmc - we're not all that far apart; so our weather is porbably similar, except sometimes the snowstorms go just south of us hitting you a bit more.
As far as the bell ringers, I have posted links to sound clips of some of the things we have played. The newer music has sound clips available on the supplier's web site. But for older music, I often have made MIDI files for my ringers to listen to when they practice at home (with wooden spoons or salad dressing bottles - or, my all-time favourite substitute bell - crookneck squash LOL). If you really want the sound files, D-mail me with your regular e-mail address and I could send you a copy of what we played last night.
Between the two of us, we could produce all sorts of handiwork. I CAN knit, but don't like it as much as crochet. Find crochet easier with just ONE implement and no stitches to drop.
Sympathies to those who have lost long messages. I've done it too.
Janis, I expect I could clog up a vacuum with the dirt around here. Have to tackle it pretty soon. Hope you get the laundry monster under control. Bummer finding a sour load of wet laundry.
Carol, sending good thoughts the way of your father. Hope they work.
suzieq2761 - also sending thought and prayers the way of your son.
Let us know how things go.
DH came home today. I had to tell him to sit still. We have a split-level house so lots of stairs. Don't wnat him to over do it on the first day home. A few, in moderation, is the way to go.
Gotta go out and pick up his antibiotic prescription. He also had one for Tylenol 3 which he didn't fill. Hasn't been on anything stronger than regular Tylenol since the day after surgery. Also need to get a few other items.
Hi to all the rest who I didn't address.
Ann
Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)
Ann~Hooray on the DH getting home. I'm glad he's getting by on just tylenol!! We had a split in NJ - they sure weren't designed for the elderly or infirm!!hope the recovery goes quickly!
Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)
Well the grunt work is almost done. Water spurts out the top like it's supposed to do, rocks are in their semi-permanent positions awaiting fine tuning. Had to know where the water was going to dribble before cleaning up the edges. Another load of more decorative stones to cover the foreground, leveling and planting are all that's left (I think). Haven't even started on the plan for running power out there. One, or more?, things at a time.
Su-Q Hope the kids surgery is successful. The fasting is a real bummer, makes being hungry a lot more intense.
Carol, keeping fingers crossed and good thoughts for your Dads Oncology report.
Sarv, Meezer, and whoever else is being snowed at, you have my sympathy. This is supposed to be the time of year that has more good times than bad. (except for April 15th). Better go help DW with the cleanup in the front yard. I'd wave farewell to all but my hands are too dirty and scratched up.
Taking a quick peek before I drag out the vac....had a nice chat with Elaine and Dcat today, but wanted to stop in and see what's up. Glad your DH has come home Ann, make him rest and stay off the stairs until he's all better. We assume your fiber provisions did what they were supposed to do since they set him free....LOL
DR, it's my DS who is going to AZ, DIL thinks the boss just looks in te yellowpages and picked the first motel she sees, theirs starts with an A, what do you think? I'm sure he won't stay there.
Stopped snowing, now it's melting.
Back to work. Set a record for goofing off today.
Albany, OR(Zone 8a)
GO GO GO, Sarv, get that computer up and running!!!
Way too bad that you missed the delivery guy, darn it!
Hope you get it today tho.
I just love it when I have a new computer!!!
You will love it!
Ann, am glad your DH is home and hopefully will be safe and sound on the split level house. I grew up in one and I really did love it. Tho when you do get older, it isn't the easiest to get around in.
I01, am so glad that you had a nice chat with Sheila. I bet it was fun to hear about Sammi and his sneaky ways.
Babs, oh dear, my parents are out in that weather up there in Bellingham. Hope they get around ok. Sounds nasty.
We are actually doing ok here, some sun and some rain.
Robert, that pond looks and sounds great. Can't wait to see it in real life soon.
Am waiting to hear from my parents so am going to call them real soon. Am kind of afraid to so..... need to bite the bullet and just do it.
So later all,
Carol (DR)
Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)
Hello everyone.
Robert, somehow I was pictureing a big pond with the rocks around the edges, now I see a fountain with your little rock in the middle. Ok, now I'm getting it. Can't wait to see the finished project but I guess I'll have to, mid summer (with plants filled in along the edges) is a ways off.
VAnn, I'm glad to hear that your hubby is home again. There's no place like home, with home cooked food, familiar surroundings, the people you want to see, quiet, a comfy bed and/or recliner, watch tv or not, snooze, etc. Also good to hear the good bell performance report.
Janis, I hope the laundry was only sour and not growing mildew polkadots! We have also been in living situations where the water supply was limited and it does require planning. Sorry to hear that you were sick with the yukkies your kids brought home. Take it as easy as you can now for a few days, I know, for a wife and mom with kids at home that is difficult.
Suziq, you and your son would be at the hospital now. I'm praying for an easy fix. They heal up really fast at that age, and your teenage monster will be happier when he can have a full tummy again but after some anesthesia he might just feel sleepy instead of hungry. Will he be home tonight or kept in the hospital? One of mine broke a bone in his hand when he was about 14, and a couple of weeks later was racing his motorcycle (in competition). When he said he wanted to do that I told him that I was paying for the first doctor visit (no insurance), but that if he reinjured it he would have to pay for it next time and that would mean not racing and probably having to sell the bike to pay the doc. He weighed it carefully for about 30 seconds and decided to risk it. When he crashed during the race he stuck that hand up in the air to protect it, got back on the bike when the dust settled and finished the race. Yep, I earned these gray hairs.
Carol(DR) I hope your parents got around ok in the storm. Let us know about the onocology report.
Babs, that weather sounds like what we got in SE Alaska. We lived in an old single wide on a high bluff for a couple of months, learned to gauge the wind a bit by whether the trailer was shaking. It wasn't such a bad storm if the trailer wasn't moving in the gusts. It's a wonder, but the thing was still there years later. Believe me I was glad to get out of that thing and into a house!
A quiet night with the sheep last night, there are only 24 left to go. The ewe I brought in the night before had a single lamb, assisted birth to straighten a leg. They're supposed to come out in a diving position, but when a leg goes backward nothing can move. All ok now and she is proud of her baby but very nervous.
My good news for the day is that I got accepted to ride with one of the more competative teams in our region. Woopee. They finished 2nd last year, not far behind the winner. And, one of the neat things is that the team members park their trailers in a group at the rides and they all help each other. Help is certainly welcome and something I have not had much of the past few years while riding with another team. Last year I applied to join this team but their roster was full, so I reapplied and got in this year!
I was just looking at the Weather Channel forecast, looks like it's gonna be worse before it gets better and my horses need exercise, so, despite the wind, light rain and mud I will have to go and hope I don't get too wet. There is more wind than moisture at this point. I'm off with a ~~~~ to you all. See you later.
south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)
Oh you wouldn't believe what one of my DS did today. My mother will be 82 tomorrow and I wrote an email to both sons reminding them of her birthday and asking nicely if they would take the time to send her a short email - I told them she asks about them every week when I talk to her. Well, one son had already sent a card, the other one forwarded my email to my mom along with his bd wish. Oh gadssss I could just throttle him. Maybe he is not as computer savy as I thought he was LOL
Well, sun is out and the snow is a melting!!! Feels kinda like spring = maybe!! Only going to get better!
Bab's hang on tight!! They are saying bad weather here for Fri - storms and tornado stuff.... We live in the lower level, so I feel ultra safe down here- I just worry about my greenhouse sprouting wings and sailing off.
Vi- glad to here DH is doing well. Tell him we're all thinking of him
I got home from taking MIL to hospital for tests and DH had put chicken in the oven = yahoo!! Only thing is we don't have any potatoes.....
Yippee, Mary! Glad you made the Team!
Sarv--- That feeling secure in a Tornado brings back memories. I and Kittymom live in tornado ally. I am on the east side of it she is dead center on it. You never know about those things they can hit at times you never think they would. I know everyone has heard the saying about out of a clear blue sky ,but it can happen with tornados. If your not real real observant they will sneak up and catch you. When we bought this place it came with a nice big seperate 2 car garage. Problem was no electric out there, No door other than the garage door and a tiny window in the back wall. Well I made updating that garage my first order of bussiness. It was a hot Saturdayday in September. We had closed on the house the day before but since Our insurance man was not around we could not finalize our insurance. The reason for this was we paid cash on the line for the place. Anyway I had a much larger window to put in the back wall of the garage. So I was in there taking out the old window and it was hot and the sun was bearing down. I had the window almost out and it was sticking. So I walked accross the garage to get a jimmy. As I turned around the window blew out of the frame and went about 15 ft accross the garage before it hit the floor. It was a Tornado. It touched down about 1/2 mile away And lifted again about 1/4 of a mile away jumped us went down into the lake and tore up some things on the other side about 1 mile away. There was no warning. Even if I had been out on the lake I might not have seen it coming. A small thunderhead just came up real fast and that was it. After it pasted we was back to the same weather like nothing happened. Had we been hit it would have blown $105K out of my pocket as well because that insurance was not signed.
Oh oh oh ... Mary congrats!!
Babs I do so hope you are doing ok in that *nasty* weather out there.
Ann, do tell your DH to be careful and don't over do.
Suzie, how is that DS?
Hi Pati ... wonderful to see you again today.
Maria, you feeling better?
Oh Defoe ... we know where you are, poor thing! ;)
I know I'm missing things ... but just slipped in here between checking things on the stove. I'm running late as I have been raking today and let time slip up on me. Got part of the front done. The DH is going to have a fit when he drives up. hehehe Got huge piles of leaves out there for him to pick up and roll to the street!! LOL That's one way to get R done!! LOL LOL I've got mountains of em. :)
P.S.
I wish I could get a pic of that. Y'all would get a kick out of it!
Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)
Oz~wouldn't that have been the rottenest luck ever, had the tornado taken your 1-day-old house before the insurance was signed!!! Glad it was just awindow and that it didn't kill anyone! you wouldn't have wanted to be hanging onto it when it went!
Mary~hooray for making the team. I guess your horses don't get too spooky with the wind? It usually makes my mare pretty...um...interesting?LOL
sarv~chicken and rice? Chicken and noodles? Whatever, you didn't have to cook it. Good for you!!
dr~hope you've gotten good news, as good as it can be...fingers crossed and prayers for you and DF
Ann~i've heard rumors of 50 degrees by Saturday! We may get rain, but it'll smell like spring! And the snow will melt!! Here's hoping!! I'
ll send my email - now I must confess I really want to see the crookneck squash players!! (Isn't that like maracas?)
balvenie, do they drill a hole through the rock for the water? The fountain looks cool. I would love to drill rocks, too...and carve rock basins...you know, in my spare time?
south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)
wow - oz - someone was watching over you....That sounds like my luck - only the tornado would have taken the house!!
Mary - congrads on making the A team!!
Well, DH and I went and picked up the new computer from Fed Ex and I have it plugged in. It has me so confused, that I turned it off and hopped back on the old one...I called my DS to ask for help, but he is busy tonight, has to work Tues and Wed evenings, so it looks like I won't get to play with it until Thurs evening. My confusion is that this Norton Security thing wants an answer- yes or no tonight and I don't know what to answer!!! HELP!!! Is this something that comes with the computer or is it something that I buy? Heavens.....this is harder than I thought it would be!!
I made box potatoes and spinach to add with the chicken - it was ok - just too much salt for my old body....now I am craving water!!
Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)
Hi all,
Sarv, most of the time the extras that come with a new computer are "trial" packages. You get to try them out for 30 days, then decide whether to delete them or buy the regular set-up. IMHO everybody needs SOMETHING to keep the nasties at bay. We have Norton at home and McAfee on my business computer at the store.
Congrats, Mary! I'm glad that you got onto the team of your choice this time. I haven't said a lot about the commentaries and pictures of lambing because I'm still suffering from carnivore guilt. I do very much appreciate your dedication and hard work and love the pictures you've posted. (Also got a real kick out of the "lamb in bed" story!)
Keyi, so sorry! I often think that it's much harder for us to let go of beloved pets than for them to leave us. I'm still crying about a "best ever" cat who left me more than 6 years ago.
Vann, very glad to hear that your DH is home --- even if you might have to literally sit on him to keep him from overdoing it.
We haven't gotten any more snow for a while (though we may be in for some tomorrow). Everything is just looking pretty dead and brown outside at the moment.
101, you know, I don't envy you at all for your weather because it gets way too hot for me, even up here, in July and August. I wouldn't even want to THINK about what it's like down there! I hope you have very efficient air-conditioning.
Ditto on the tornadoes. I'll take the snow over those anytime, thanks anyway!
Babs, hope you get through the wild and wooly weather okay.
Lauri, hope your neck is getting better. Mine just won't turn like it used to a couple of decades ago, but it isn't usually all that painful.
Wishing the best of luck to dr and suzie with their ailing family members.
D'cat, good thinking on getting things organized ahead of time "just in case". I haven't done that although my mother's memory has gone from bad to worse in recent years. Alzheimer's runs very, very strongly in her family (particularly among the females), but then again, she will turn 80 this summer and seems to be doing pretty well for her age. We're hoping that she will never need to be institutionalized (although sometimes I think that I will have to be, when she's driving me nuts!)
Maria, hi "neighbor"! You sound as though you're feeling better and I'm very glad to hear it. Sounds like you got a lot more snow than we did last time around. (Maybe that's a good thing as Samson seems to love it and our cats certainly DO NOT!)
Waving ~~~~hi to woodspirit, darius, oz, dmcd, pati, scooter, woofens, M5 (thanks for the Sammi fix), and bal. If I've missed anyone, my apologies.
I still mean to try to get some seeds started before I head for bed tonight. Picked up some of those "jiffy pots" today. I've never tried those before, but they looked kind of neat. One very aggravating thing today --- I carefully saved seeds from my heirloom veggies and herbs and put them WHERE? Have torn the place apart and can't find them. Why do I bother?
Goodnight to everyone.
Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)
Back from my ride, cold and wet. It was just kind of misty drizzly when I went out to saddle the horse and continued that way while I rode out a few miles. Everything is muddy and slick so we can't go very fast, especially on the downhills. Just when I got to my turn around point it started to rain, then changed to hail, then back to rain. I got so wet I changed all my clothes when I got home and have them all drying by the woodstove, drank a cup of hot chocolate and am still not very warm! Of course as soon as I came inside and got changed the sun came out! Now I have to go back out to do my chores and hubby will be home soon. Short day, seems like I just got up.
Sarv, we used to have Norton which cost us about $35 a year, now we have something called NOD32 antivirus system, free. A computer savy friend told us about it and installed it for us. Says it is better than the Norton.
Chore time, see ya.
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
Well, I have read all, and won't even try to comment individually.
I have had an interesting day. This was prep day for a colonoscopy tomorrow. Let me tell you about my delicious meals today. I had beef broth and jello, plus a yummy citrus drink for lunch, then for supper a very special meal, chicken broth and jello, plus the citrus drink.
I have been so hungry all day, and told DH that as soon as we leave the hospital tomorrow, we are hitting Cracker Barrel for a hearty breakfast!!
I organized some photo albums this afternoon, and have completed 2 of them. I am doing themed ones, I got DH horse pictures in an album, and vacation pics in another. I have one for pets, for DH family, and 1 for my family. So still have more to work on.
Had a very nice chat with M5 this afternoon. Sammi |(hers) and Mr. B A(mine) were asleep, so it was a quiet peaceful chat.
dr, have you heard from parents. Hope they got some good news.
Vann, glad the DH is home. Make him behave if possible. Don't want him to have to go back to the hospital.
Mary, that ride sounds like misery to me. And congrats on being accepted in the riding group. Help at competitions is always welcome. Glad to see that they pull together.
susieq, how is DS?
Sarv, kids, don't ya just love them? Did DMIL behave today?
Bal, great pond. I want to see it when it is filled in with plants.
101, thanks for the offer of a meal after the tests tomorrow, but I would have already died of hunger by the time I got there!!
To everyone else, I am not intentionally leaving you out. I am ~~~ frantically to all not addressed.
I will check in first thing after the hospital visit tomorrow.
I appreciate your T& P.
