Now that it's warmed up here, I've been out taking inventory of what perennial vines I had growing out in the yard. I found that only a couple actually died. Here's what I lost:
1. Yellow Chinese creeper, red leaves (I wish it had bloomed, but I'm not sorry to see it go! If you grew it, you understand...)
2. Ipomoea indica, Florida strain (possibly...I don't see signs of life anywhere)
What did make it:
1. Merremia tuberosa--froze back, but I checked the stump, and the roots are very much alive
2. I. indica, local strain (Texas zone 8-9)
3. I. linderheimeri
4. I. macrorhiza--4 of 5 tubers of one season's growth survived. I broke one when digging them up, so I only have three now. :-(
I'll be trying to grow other perennial types this year to see how they overwinter here. Some are said to be annuals here (zone 8) but are perennials in zone 9 or lower, so I'd like to test this and see what happens. I know sometimes survival may depend on where the plant is located (sheltered or not), so I figured I'd grow mine out on a fence or trellis where it would be exposed this coming winter after getting full benefits of sun and water during the summer. I think I may already have a variety of moonflower that may be a little more cold hardy than the commercially sold one, one that could actually survive light freezes!

What survived in your area?
Here are some of mine that look like they are sprouting side shoots and some just never went dormant, just looked tired..lol.
I. magnusiana
I. muelleri
Merremia dissecta Alamo Vine
I. microdactyla
I. Obscura var. aurantia-lutea (Species Ethopia) orange colored
Yellow Chinese MG, don't know name on this one
I. macrorhiza plant will be 2 yrs old, has not bloomed ever
Turbina corymbosa at least that is what I think it is (planted more this year)
3 plants from Argeia Nervosa (dont know if this is considered an MG)
Merremia Tuberosa (has not bloomed for me)
and last but not least
I. Andersoni
edited to add:
I. platensis has never bloomed either.
I am hoping that these that survivied this year will bloom, and bloom enough to make some seed this year. Mostly they have been growing the root system I think..
edited to make corrections on the IDs on Ethiopia, spelling on platensis
Thank you Ron for the correct IDs.
A.
