burgambel oak

rhinelander, WI(Zone 4a)

Hi forum, has anyone had success with this hybrid oak ? Would a graft have better success
reaching the reputed 20 to 40 feet than a hybrid acorn seedling ? Would gambel oak be the
rootstock for this graft , or bur oak ? Are there any pictures of this tree ?Thanks, Jim

I grow 6 different Quercus, one of them being the Bur Oak. But I am in no way an authority, but VV, Scott, Guy or someone will see your post and be able to help you.

Jim, the city forester for Ft. Collins Colorado has studied this natural cross in the wild in great detail and probably is the world authority on it. He also propagatea lot of trees, and I'm sure he would be the best person to approach with your questions. You can find his article in the most recent issue of International Oaks if you're a member of the Oak Society
http://www.saintmarys.edu/~rjensen/ios.html
or you can contact me off the forum (Guy@StarhillForest.com) and I'll direct you to him. I don't want to broadcast his name and e-dress here for privacy reasons.
