I'm trying a rooting experiment.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I was thinking of shooting Charlies and email too - Allison, let me know if they respond to you

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Ok Anitia will do. Just seems so weird such a hugh difference.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I agree

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I have not heard back. I don't like to order from people who don't answer emails.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

it's only been one day - maybe give them until Tuesday and then try one more time. At that time I would make my email a bit firmer

Okay, guess what arrived today? My bottle of Gel 2 Root from The Alternative Garden. Yippee!!

As for the size . . . it is a big tall bottle that says it is "1 Litre". It's made in the UK, hence the sizing and spelling. :)

Ok yippie ! Please take pictures of all you do ! What I did before I was given a gift of a digital camera was buy the throw away camera. Our CVS had them on sale last week for 1 cent. And then I would get it developed onto a CD . Then you can put the CD right into your computor to share your pictures :))

Scotts Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

Hmmm, that's an idea. I'll see if I can do that.

My husband finally broke down a year ago and bought me a Compac laptop computer. It was one of those "bundled" deals -- came with a color printer and a wireless router. The whole thing after rebates came to about $600. Before that, I was using an ancient Apple Macintosh. It's gotta be more than 15 years old . . . and still works. Slowly.

So it may be a while before the digital camera arrives here. :)

A lap top is on my dream list . lol My compter is about 6 years old and I have a wireless keyboard and mouse my oldest son bought me about 4 years ago so I can use it from bed . I am so greatfull for itall :))

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Laptops are so wonderful, especially for all of us that are disabled. I sure do wish that you had one Allison. But the wireless mouse and keyboard are so neat too. That is what I did before I got my laptop. I had my computer beside the bed and had the wireless mouse and keyboard. And it worked great. The laptop I have was a $2,000 laptop that this silly woman we knew sold us for $200. She was actually the therapist of a friend of ours who was more mixed up than he was. She said that the CIA kept hacking into it and that is why it kept going down. She has a rich ex husband who will buy her whatever she wants. So she told him that this laptop did not work good and sold it to DH for $200. I think it had a misplaced memory module or some silly little thing like that. There was nothing really wrong with it but she was convinced that the CIA had gotten to it or something like that and she wanted a new one. So I got hers which was a great thing for me. Maybe one day that will happen to you Allison.

I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have a computer - I'm so addicted to it!

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I would be lost without my computer. We have several of them. But not for personal use. We have two websites and run several servers, plus we have some people that cannot afford to have email accounts or websites. Plus we host several non profit sites. Not to mention we have our own online picture gallery with over 700 photos on it.

I do not know what I would do without my computer either. My DH's job depends on him having internet and computer access. So DH has rigged it so that if we lose power, our old car can power the computers for a while. He is always thinking of ways to make things work when they normally could not work. He also has a way to have computer access by using or cell phones. He has even talked about getting a generator. Without a computer, his job is nothing. But he is very clever. I'm so glad to have him.

I'm so glad to have a computer too. Without my laptop, I would miss all the fun here while I'm traveling!

Scotts Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm trying to remember what I did before I had a computer. I mean, since I'm no spring chicken, I've spent more years without one than with. But I sure don't know how I did it. :)

Marilee

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I know what you mean Marilee. I am no spring chicken myself. But without my computer, I would be so lost. I did not get my first one until I was 28 years old. I went through college without a laptop and back then they were so expensive. Only one person in our whole college had one. I got my old boss' hand me down desktop a little while after that. It was a 286 with a CGA monitor. I was so jealous of people that could play games on their computers. I could not play most of them because I only had the CGA 4 color monitor. Man, that was ages ago, 1989 I think. I must admit that this part of my life has changed. I just recently gave my desktop computer away to a friend in NZ who is a member of a chat room that I run. This was a really big deal for me because I don't even like sharing my computer. It is the only thing that I can really call mine. But she lives in a tiny little town and has no one to help her. She doesn't have a therapist to talk to and no friends either. She has BPD and we are her only means of support. So when hers crashed, I gave her mine. Then I got me a new one, a tiny little one but it is really cool. That was before we stopped getting paid by DH's work. But at least I have a desktop and my laptop. When we were travelling back and forth to CA, I would have been in a very sad state without my laptop. My chat room and DG, along with my plants are the most important things in my life. I know that is sad, but true. So without my chat room and you guys here, I would be lost. So I'm thankful for what I do have.

I still have my old Macintosh as a back-up. It's that really lovely shade of putty. Remember that color? So attractive indeed. :)

Marilee

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes I do remember that famous color. My new case is silver on the sides. The two before that were blue. It is amazing how things change. Here is a photo of my new computer. This is only a copy of what it looks like from the manufacturer. If I clean my desk I will show you another one of how it really looks. This new computer has the new I.C.E. cooling system which stands for Integrated Cooling Engine. It was pretty awesome to build. My DH said that since it was my computer that I had to build it and I did.

Good for you, Jesse! DH has rebuilt our computers a couple of times, so I think they are newer than their putty-colored CPU cases indicate, LOL.

This has been a fun thread to follow along on! And I just came across a fabulous tidbit buried in it... Allison has some extra leaves of 'Annabelle' that she's going to send me! Yeeeehaa! I am going to have such fun growing that for my new little neighbor, also named Annabelle, now about 9 months old. Thanks, Allison!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I love Bell flowers. It's hard to find Av's with really good bells. And Annabelle she has them ! I put four leaves down and I will send you two in your trade box Jill :))
I am so Happy with her :))

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I've got 'Baby Jay', and I absolutely love its wonderful blue bell flowers! However, it is currently more interested in suckering than in blooming (probably a reaction to repotting). I have some very tiny leaf babies of it, and of course it looks like I will get some sucker cuttings too... I'll send you one if they're anywhere near big enough, but I'm thinking that one may go out in a later Allison box!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Well I have Bell's of Ireland too. And it keeps suckering giving me many, many plants. I have a couple that need to be doctored up so many suckers and I just did one last week. First I had two small ones then I had 6 plus and have been sharing them. They sell on Ebay for like $ 20.00
I love Bells and love suckers.
Someone on an other group VV wants to get an Annabells but she was just a short time Special and their not selling her anymore. Just leaves two for $8.00. They put them down they were $9.00.
They have a new special now and $5.00 goes toward breast Cancer. I wanted to send my Mom an Annabelle for her birthday I am going to email or call them to see if they have anymore . I also want to get Isabelles leaves and other bell in the new Southern Belles Series ! they only have her leaves.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

How it coming along Taz ? Have you started ? DID anyone else buy it and start ?

Abilene, TX

I am interested to hear how this goes, as well. Pam

Scotts Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

I purchased the bottle of gel. Now I'm waiting on my leaves to arrive.

I did, however, previously purchase the 6-pack version of this stuff. It comes with the gel in foil-covered 6-packs. You poke a hole in the foil to put the leaf stem through. Then you put a little water in the bottom of the mini plastic greenhouse thing that comes with it. You then place the six-pack in the water and then place the clear plastic top on the top. You can watch the leaves through the clear plastic top. I did that a week or so ago. It's getting close to the time to check to see if I can see anything going on beneath the foil.

The way that lady from the website does it is better. It's easier to see if your leaf is rooting because there's no foil in the way.

So, cross your fingers, people. :)

Marilee

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh this is wonderful Marilee
I thought without foil would be better to see and also give the Av babies more room to grow ?
Plus she was also saying you can use half the amount when not using the pre-filled pots and that's all that's needed. Did you buy some SPecial leaves ? Which ones will you be growing ! Excitng !

Scotts Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm waiting on leaves for Vespa Verde, Winnie the Pooh, Silly Girl, Rob's Pewter Bells, Rodeo Friend, Java, Sky Bells, Tensie's Trail, Rob’s Whiz Bang, and Apache Jewel.

I'm also always looking for those girl leaves. [grin] I have some already in those 6-packs. Electric Cowboy, Ruth's Girl, Wondrous Girl, and Lullaby.

I have others in the 6-packs, but I've gotta go meet my husband for dinner. I'll have to come back and add the rest later. Sorry. :)

Marilee

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Hope you had a good dinner !
I have grown several Vespa Verde, their easy to root and grow and I have a couple leaves down ! One of my favorite wasp and the only green flowered one out there !
>>>>

Vespa Verde (D. Senks) It has white wasp blossoms variably edged in green.Variegated Foliage, Delicate Green-edged Wasp Blossoms "Vespa Verde" Vespa Verde blooms easily and its medium green semi-miniature occasionally-bustled foliage forms a nice rosette Semiminiature (User Database)
>>
You have the best selection of leaves ! Laurie gave me two little baby Winnie the Poohs yesterday ! I grew many before but gave them away . This time I am keeping one !.

I love bell flowers ! There really are not many African violets with bell flowers.
Electric Cowboy is one of my favorites !
I think I have Ruth Girl coming from my Violet Galler order. And I have Wonderous Girl I can share leaves of also.
Ruth's Girl (Bronson) Double pink/variable lavender center. Girl foliage. Standard trailer

Were you looking for this one ?

Can't wait to see your babies growing in the gel !

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm still waiting for my gel to arrive.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Where did you get your's from Anita ?

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Charlies

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

You saw the letter Charlies wrote me back ? I hope their shipping is not too slow.
I got a large order of pots today from one company cheap shipping cheaper pots, but they only have so many sizes.
This other company I paid extra to have Priroity mail rather that post. Still don't have them. Their pots are 2-3 x's as much so I don't think I will buy from them anymore.
I'll just have to use, thumb print, 2 inch, 3 inch, 4 inch, and pan pots :)) 5 inch when needed :)) I'm going to stick with the cheap pots their white and nicer anyways !.
Their soaking in bleach in my bath tub. Tomorrow I'll be busy I have lots of babies to pot , and plants to transplant. Oh my.

Scotts Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm sorry, Allison. My post was confusing. I have Ruth's Girl, Electric Cowboy, Wondrous Girl, and Lullaby in the gel 6-pack.

The others that I mentioned having in the 6-pack, too, are Witch Doctor, Celia, and Sora Kalissa. The person I bought them from also sent freebies of Shoshone and Rare Tapestry. I put them in the 6-pack too.

In the mail on Wednesday, some of my leaves arrived. Sky Bells, Tensie's Trail, Java, Rodeo Friend, and Rob's Pewter Bells. She also sent me freebies of Glitter Fountain, Tomahawk, and Rob's Bewitched. I looked their pictures up but couldn't find anything on Rob's Bewitched. I guess I'll keep looking.

But today I'll put my new leaves in that water solution the "gel lady" recommended of 1 Tablespoon sugar and 5 drops of Superthrive. I did that for my previous set of leaves and they perked right up. I left them in that water for about 8 hours and then rinsed them off, dried them, sliced the stem at an angle, dried it again, then placed them in the 6-pack gel. So we'll see what happens. :)

Marilee

P.S. I'm seriously coveting that "girly leaves" that Danak has on her NOID. She just might be hearing from me soon. [grin]

Allison - I did not see the email you got from Charlies - what did they finally say?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

SOrry Anita I thought I posted it here. I must have posted it on my Gel root thread ?
Here it is.

Dear Allison,

Thank you for your inquiry, I'm more than happy to explain our price structuring. First of all, larger Companies or Corporations are capable of buying "Lots" or large purchased quantities at a time, which requires larger warehouse facilities to store this inventory. This provides them more purchase power. Charley does his best to maintain our overhead costs, our facilities are limited. He does consult with vendors to ship direct to save on storage costs. Charley is driven to provide excellent Customer Service with Warranty issues, New Product development and Customer satisfaction which our customers appreciate.
Hope this assisted you with understanding, give us a call if you have any further questions. You'll be able to speak with a real person!

With growing regards,

sounds bogus to me - the Ebay person only had 10 available. It's not like we were buying from QVC or anything

Scotts Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

I received my bottle from the eBay vendor within a few days. Priority Mail. No problem. :)

Marilee

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I just got mine today...if I get a chance later, I'll put down a few leaves.
