An Introduction........

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

...don't get too excited, I'm introducing myself not a new cultivator! This Spring will be my first ever attempt at seeds....and Morning Glories at that! The last 4 years I have grown annuals, some periennials, houseplants, cats, and boa constrictors. I am excited about the last frost. I am trying a bush-type and 2 varieties of JMG. Also the double blue Picotee. West Texas heat , drought (watered daily)., wind, and me will be their biggest enemies...I do plan on provided a trelis type structure.

Any newbie suggestions or proven methods I should know about? How about a web-site (besides DG)? Any suggestions will be helpful.

Thank you all,
Linda

Hi Linda...
I got hooked on MG last year when rylaff gave me a JMG.. that's all it took. This year I'm growing out about 10 different cultivars. Welcome. I can't give you any tips as I am new to the plant myself but we have some VERY knowledgeable folks here.

Linda, welcome to the Morning Glory Forum. You will find some good information on MG's given by the gardeners on this site. You will find that MG's will do good for you in Lubbock---------in spite of the strong winds and intense summer heat! Here's some Heavenly Blue MG on a back fence in Lubbock.

Hi Linda,

Glad to have you join us...there's plenty of people here that'll be willing to help you out with any questions or particulars...

re:
"How about a web-site (besides DG)?"

Ahemmm(!)...cough...cough...

Aside from the 'Top Secret Japanese Morning Glory Illuminati' ,if there's something to know about MG's,you'll find it here...any 'other'(!) 'web-sites' feed off the 'security leaks' that manage to escape, despite the best efforts of our 'quality control security agents'.....

Linda welcome to the MG forum and to Daves. Ron besides having a great sense of humor, is one of the most Morning glory knowledgable people (IMO) you will ever meet.

Linda,

This is the best forum for MG info. You're sure to see lots of gorgeous photos as well.

Got lots of Texas folks on here too. Will say the morning glories I plant have survived the deep south Texas heat of 100+ degrees during the Summer.

Ron...Too funny!!! Ya know...there are electronic bugs disguised as gum - quick...everyone check their shoe phones!!! :o)

Here's my favorite morning glory...which I've grown for the past few years.

Oh this is the "chocolate" but the darn camera wont show the true colour, have tried every different thing and lighting with the camera. the real flower is a lot less red and the flowers range from 2 iches to the largest 5 inches.
Ron said the difference in flower size is due to the plant being young.
And yes this is the one I have been growing inside. It has only had a spotlight on it, you know the ordinary reflector bulb.

Thank you all for the warm Forum welcome! I am certainly thrilled to see you Texans and especially a beatiful pic from Lubbock. I must admit that in the situations with my MG seeds I have not done my usual "read and look at everything I can find". I only did a quick check in my main book and decided more on the presentation of the flowers than careful deliberate research. As of lately, I just don't seem to find enough time for reading.....and I should admit maybe I'm seeking more of the freindly "people contact" that is lacking these days. I am definately looking forward to getting these seeds off and thriving.

I love pics and am looking forward to seeing each and every one. I am sure to be posting pics of hopefully nice blooms within the upcoming season.

Thanks again....

Hi Linda,

Welcome! There are several of us from Texas on this particular forum, so you'll find out real quick which ones are going to work for you and which ones may not. We are all in different zones (I think) so it'll be a big help to you, for sure! We grow just about any kind of MG seed we can get our grubby little paws on!
