This is the Appalachian Trail I got from Violet Gallery October 2005. Just Coming in full bud for the first time. Notice how the crowns are hanging over the pot. They extend almost past the well and soon will be touching the base of the plant stand. Do I let it grow out by putting it in a larger pot? It is now in a 6" azalea pot. I thought of a 7 or 8 inch pan. Or do I let it keep trailing down?
Edited to say I am open to all suggestions. This trailer is very different from Sticky Wicket. SW takes care of itself.

Question? Is it OUT or DOWN with Trailers?
Gorgeous! I can't wait to see it in bloom! You've done a fabulous job with this plant... WOW!! :-)
Some of my trailers are being very stubborn about trailing... they're forming a vertical stack of multiple crowns! I'm hoping they start growing out or down soon.
I think it all depends on your preference... You could put a hanger on the pot (or a taller stand under it) and grow it trailing down, or you could put it into a larger pan pot (the way Rob likes to grow his trailers). I love the way it looks spilling over the edges of the pot!
I have a couple of miniature trailer pots that I've put into footed sherbet glasses, and I'll just let them trail down over the edge when they get to that point (they're growing, but slowly).
Hey Jill, Can you believe how cold it has been the last two days. My feet and hands are blue. Can't wait for our trip. The sherbet glasses sound like a wonderful idea from the mini trailers. I have a Rob's Gundaroo that has finally decided to bloom.
I guess if ApTrail is going to stay under the light is needs to go into a pan pot. Was it Rob that said trailers need to group out not up. I think they are actually a ground cover so out would be more natural to the plant.
Will the crowns that are trailing eventually root if I put it in a larger pot? (like strawberry plants)
Allison, you are the expert here!!!! What is your experiences and suggestions
Yes, the trailing crowns will root if you put it into a larger pot.
Hey, if your 'Rob's Gundaroo' blooms true, I would love a couple of leaves! Mine sported, so I'm calling it Guessaroo.... pretty pink blooms, though, so if you'd like one LMK. :-)
I think it is true. Here is a picture. Forgot to put in the picture

Well.....I think their all different . I let mine grow and trail ..as long as their even in the pot stems not hanging out long necked.
Most true trailers have natural trailing habits. I like my trailers to grow up and down and full . If they were just to grow down and out of the pot and not up and full before you know it you'll have an empty pot with crowns with long nexks hanging out of the pots. ( Like my epcias wind up doing until I take them apart and transplant them .
If you go with the pan pot you can go one size up they are not deep at all which is great trailers have shallow roots. I like my trailers nice and fat , full in the pot then they can trail down. This also makes them good for hanging baskets.
Lot's of it is a personal preference . The more corwns you have the more flowers !
I took a large crown off the top of my Angel Tears trail. it filled a 2.50 pot . I cut it off the top no roots. And Mom plant is in a 5 inch pan pot. Now she need to bloom.
So for me I like my trailers to grow wild :))
Nanna your trailer is beautiful !
I'll have to take a new picture of Angel Tears Trail as it has grown a lot sense this picture.
Ooh! I would love a start or a couple of leaves of your 'Rob's Gundaroo', please, Nanna! We'll have to do another little swap of our own this spring!
I'm with Allison... thinking that since your 'Allegro Appalachian Trail' is so nice and full and already 6 inches across, you could certainly let it trail over the edge of the pot if you wanted... just a matter of personal preference!
Allison, your 'Angel Tears Trail' is wonderfully full & symmetrical also!
Thanks, Allison. Angel Tears is beautiful. I love the leaves. I guess I could also cut the trailing crowns and start new plants, also. Decisions, decisions!!
Oh, don't cut a trailing crown unless it's sticking out way too far on one side and ruining the symmetry of the plant! (But if you do cut a crown of 'Rob's Gundaroo' keep me in mind, LOL.)
Understood!!! LOL
Yippie my Angel Tears Trail that I potted in 2 inch pot, then 2.50 and 3 inch and now 5 inch pan pot had no roots last November as when I got it was hanging out of the pot long neck. So I cut it off and started from large crown.
I lost track of time but a few weeks ago I took this large crown off the top it filled a 2.50 inch pot and has rooted hrowing nicley.
And the big Mom plant finaly has loads of buds . Yippie ! I am so happy I bought this trailer last year from Violet Gallery as they don't sell it this year and I love it !
I've been able to share many leaves and baby plants with people . I have a nice plant for you Bob.
I wonder what the blossoms will look like !
I don't think I've ever seen a picture of it.
Angel Tears Trail (6126) 01/22/1986 (C. Sotkiewicz) Double white frilled/pink fantasy. Medium green, pointed, quilted. Standard trailer
Good luck. I noticed buds on my Ramblin' Angel this morning. Can't wait
Aweseom ! Is your Ramblin' Angel real large ? I think with me cuting the roots off of Angel Tears Trail it was working hard growing them back and then I had just transplanted it into the 5 inch pan pot. It's been putting all it's energy into growing. I was wondering when it was going to bloom.
Funny sometimes babies with Mom leaf will bloom and some mature plants are so stuborn you can't get them to bloom.
I have a few adult plants I just can't get them to bloom. They apear happy and halthy no mater what I do they want bloom. When others will bloom non-stop. Sometimes I don't get it?
I have three plants in solo cups that the roots are starting to show in the bottom. Last night I put all three in one 5 inch pan pot and added a very little soil to the bottom and around the edges. I also placed a wick in the pan. I put the pan back with the other plantlets until I find the right place to put these 3 angels.
I got the original leaves from Ms Critter. Haven't seen her post for a long time. Just like yours, her plant has not bloomed for a year or more. Maybe they are going through the change.
I like the Ramblin's :)) I do like Ethel's Champions best ! I have grown several different Ramblin's by leaf here and there. I have a couple Ramblin' Ruby leaft promised out. And I have some little Ramblin' Lace babies the variegqation on this one is so great . And my Ramblin' Midget I treasure :))
Nanna the three plants you put in the pan pot together are they one type or different. I have seen where people put different color plants in the same pot and it's so pretty ! I did a Pixie Pink and Pixie Blue together for fun one time.
I can't wait to see your's !
I am so excited mine has several buds . First blooms are so exicitng :))
They are all the same. As soon as the blooms burst I will post picture
Oh that's a good Idea :)) Maybe when my little Ramblin's Lace get bigger I can do this ! I ordered some more pan pots from Selective gardens ! Sometimes like I have lot's of Electric Cowboy leaves, and lot's of Baby Color leaves. Their some of my favorites. So I used two pan pots and filled each with their leaves :)) slipped them under lights.
So I'll have a lot more Baby color plants to share and Electric Cowboys .
What a gorgeous plant. I love the fantasy and the variegation.
I put down tons of leaves the other day ! hope they all root ! Baby Colors so pretty :))
The buds of Ap Trail are well above the plant. They should open any day. The fantasy marking look a little like the picture above
I accidently marked Kenton's Ap Trail I sent him as Orchid Trail. And when he showed me the beautiful Fantasy bloom I was opps sorry Kenton.
