Most true trailers have natural trailing habits. I like my trailers to grow up and down and full . If they were just to grow down and out of the pot and not up and full before you know it you'll have an empty pot with crowns with long nexks hanging out of the pots. ( Like my epcias wind up doing until I take them apart and transplant them .
If you go with the pan pot you can go one size up they are not deep at all which is great trailers have shallow roots. I like my trailers nice and fat , full in the pot then they can trail down. This also makes them good for hanging baskets.
Lot's of it is a personal preference . The more corwns you have the more flowers !
I took a large crown off the top of my Angel Tears trail. it filled a 2.50 pot . I cut it off the top no roots. And Mom plant is in a 5 inch pan pot. Now she need to bloom.
So for me I like my trailers to grow wild :))

I'll have to take a new picture of Angel Tears Trail as it has grown a lot sense this picture.
