Web site rating Garden catalog companies

Saint Helen, MI(Zone 5a)

Here is a web site rating gardening catalogs. Most of the input comes from past customers. If you visit the site you too can rate the companies you have experience with.
The site has quite a list of catalog companies so I would say it is worth visiting for that reason alone.

I was going to order from Mellinger's but after the reviews... well you check it out: http://pbmfaq.dvol.com/list/mellingers.html

Hope this help everyone out!

So many more places to order "dream books" from. I'll never get anything done around here....sigh. Thanks for sharing. Carol

Wow!!!! What a list! Thanks Sari! This will be a big help....to me and my other gardening friends! But like Carol, I'm afraid I won't be getting much done (except drooling!) for a while!

This IS a terrific resource; another one is Cindy's at http://www.qnet.com/~johnsonj/

Between these two sites, I found many new mail order sources for plants and seeds this year. (Otherwise, I would have stuck with the few that I was already familiar with, namely Park's and Wayside.)

Thanks for the reminder. I've been to that site before but had forgotten about them. I just received a new catalog today and checked them out. They scored well!! Hooray!!!
The new catalog is Green Mountain Transplants.

I ordered bulbs from Van Dycks 2 years ago and had good bloom last spring. My guinnea hens seemed to bloom forever. I did order zebra iris and not 1 of them came up so they replaced them last fall for me. They didn't even question me. I like a company that stands behind thier product and cares about their customers too.

Two companies to stay away from are Canterbury Farms (never got my seeds and ended up going through the better business bureau to get my money back) and Green Leaf (rude to the customer and blamed me for the bad plants). I have had nothing but trouble with both of them.

Another source is Consumer's Reports. They actually did a report on bulb companies last fall just before time to buy and plant all those daffodils and tulips. The winner was John Scheeper's with the best rating and a BEST BUY. I have been using this source for years. It has saved me so much money on buying everything from autos to lawn mowers and I am also able to get the most reliable things that way too.
