Has anyone grown the "Canary" yellow fruited American Holly? I'm assuming it can be pollinated by the red fuited variety.
Ilex Opaca-"Canary"
I don't personally have that yellow-berried one in the yard, but know where there are quite a few nice specimens, and nurseries that grow it.
Pardon if you already know this, but I'll post for the value to those who might not understand what dioecious species like Ilex are up to.
Ilex opaca 'Canary' can be pollinated by any regular male American holly (Ilex opaca), which won't have any fruit. If you have a red-fruiter nearby, then that's another female. If it is fruiting regularly, then there must be virile male nearby that'll do the work when you get 'Canary'.
I have lots of American hollies nearby but all of them (the ones that are female) are the typical red berry type. I saw the Canary cultiver on ForestFarm's website and thought it would be something different.
