Hey Lorry, are those bromilead that kind that can grow in the air? I had some plant that looked like that years ago (my mom-in-law gave it to me) and I think it grew in the air or in water or something.....ha ha....my ignorance is showing. : ) You have great plants. They have some like your last picture at Wal-Mart that I considered buying, but I thought it might bring home unwanted critters, so I skipped it. Beautiful collection!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Nope...there are lots of air plants but these are true land lovers :) they are the only true terrestrial bromeliads I believe :)
But you are right...several simliar varieties grow as airplants :)

Some say cyclamen cause bugs. I dont' honestly know the answer to that :) I have not had any trouble with them as of yet :)

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Those are very pretty cyclamens. My mom has a couple that have been in her sunroom for about three years, I think, and no bug problem. Of course, she never has bug problems and that's not quite fair :-)

LOL...You are too funny Sharon. :)
I actually have some plants that are prone to bugs! But I zap them quite frequently :)
I have been lucky with the cyclamen and the AVs so far though :)

I think they still have them for .50 at my local nursery..so if you want me to pick some up for you Sharon...Just let me know what colors to look for :)

They also have begonias for .50 and orchids for 12.00
Boy was I in heaven!

Pretty ! Cryptanthus is this the little cutie you sent me Lorry ? How big will it get. We have some ground bromeliads outside. I forget the name of them. But a friend who collects bromeliads , has asked for a pup she loves this type and says you cant find them anymore and their real exoensive.

well certainly ranking high on the list for Floridians is the Hibiscus...some of the "tropical" variety..go for big bucks ..and like many flowers here...a speciality is "making" them into trees...
..here's a few pics of mine in the front jungle...

I've got some more amaryllis open here, too!

Here's a closeup of 'Double Record', which is blooming together with 'Minerva'. I've got the pot next to the wicker chair in the morning room, surrounded by other plants, AVs on a shelf to one side... my favorite spot for a cup of coffee!

jill that's so pretty...here in florida many of us have amaryllis in the ground ..i found several tiny seedlings today...the orange amaryllis are about to open..than the dark red will follow in a few weeks....thanks for sharing

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

ooooohhhh..... to be able to grow amaryllis in the garden year round! Mine do get planted out during the summer to grow big & strong.

Here's a different one, 'Striped Panther', that's currently on our coffee table. The blooms are more delicate & narrow, rather trumpet shaped, and I do believe I detected a sweet fragrance from this one!

It has put up 2 bloom stalks for us. Here's the first bloom fully opened:

And here's the second stalk, in full bloom. You can get a better idea of the elegant, slim flower form from this photo. Each flower stalk had 6 gorgeous blooms on it!

Those are beautiful, Kenton, what are they? Flowering? Foliage?

They are not invasive here and have the most fine foliage of any small tree.
Kenton

Very pretty Kenton :)

yes, Kenton - where are you going to put them?

Very pretty Kenton

Lovely little trees Kenton, you should bonsai one of those Mimosa! How cute would that be!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I thought that looked like a baby mimosa! Some latin names I know, some I don't, LOL. That little one is going to be huge before you can blink!

We have a mimosa out back, because one of DH's favorite trees was a double-trunked mimosa in his grandmom's yard. It sure grows fast! I've been pruning it hard (like cutting branches back by 1/3!) to improve its shape and keep it in check a little so it doesn't overrun the little maples planted nearby. It's really a gorgeous tree! Ours is multi-trunked, with a graceful fountain shape (unless recently pruned, LOL). Oh, and this tree also has some serious B&D going on... multiple ropes from trunk to trunk, trying to bring them a little more upright... sure looks funny in winter!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

the confederate rose out front is beginning to bloom..this Hibiscus Mutablis...starts out white...pink at noon...and rose in early evening...thus the mutation...sometimes called cotton plant as well as the seeds looks like cotton...
