Deformed taproot

I bought some Longleaf pine trees in 5gal pots last fall. Longleaf pine is known to have a long taproot but what if they are grown in pots? Will the taproot regrow when planted in the ground or will the tree never have one? If they dont have taproots will the windfirmness of the trees be reduced when they grow older?

The roots will adjust to the soil conditions, as long as they have not corkscrewed themselves in the pots. It you plant them in typical longleaf sandy soil they will extend downward, and in clay soil much less so. Just make sure when they come out of the pots that they were not circling around the bottom.
