on a frangrant tree or bush to have in the yard. i would love to have oranges in the yard because i love the blooms but oranges dont like it here.

i would love something that produces a smell close to them in my yard.

i want to be able to smell it from aways away. any ideas appriciated.

Poncirus trifoliata (Hardy Orange) blooms and have oranges you can't eat, hardy in your zone. You could try Gardenia 'Kleim's Hardy' for fragrance.

imzadi, what about a Mock Orange - Philadelphus? Lots of cultivars to choose from, but 'Buckley's Quill', with double flowers, is one of our favorites http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/80956/index.html

Daphne odora is extremely fragrant and evergreen foliage. 'Aureo-Marginata' is a particularly nice cultivar with variegated foliage. Although marginally hardy for us in Zone 6a, it has been in the gardens for three years with no dieback and the "perfume" carries throughout the yard in early spring.

I have eaten Poncirus trifoliata fuit, it taste like a cross between an orange and a lemon. Old timers used to make lemonade with them. The shrub does have thorns though.
