What is via courier ? This time of the year thick insulationm 60 heat packs and no longer than 2-3 days Priority Shipping is needed. Even then if real cold might not make it.
Yes I can send you some.
Oh, dear. If there's no green left, there may not be much you can do... but soaking in superthrive won't hurt. When I responded to your Dmail, I was hoping there might be something left of them to save. The problem with shipping from US is that boxes can end up sitting at the border no matter what kind of shipping is used I think (maybe you have a courier service that can get around that). At any time of year, that can be brutal. I'd be happy to send you leaves, but I'm reluctant to try shipping plants to Canada -- although I did send some mint in a bubble envelope last spring and it arrived just fine (Ontario, I think). Remind me when the weather warms up a little in April or May, and I'll get some to you.
Allison, there's no phytosanitary certification issue if it's just leaves, right?
Well no by law I think there is suppose to be one to the
best of my knowledge.
Hmmm.... I think you've posted "shipping to Canada" info somewhere.... will have to check the sticky. I thought leaves & crown cuttings (no roots or soil, easy to disinfect) were exempt, but that's from something a vendor (don't remember which one of course) said about not being able to ship plants but being able to ship cuttings...

Hi Critterologist...will check that out too...thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Joanne
I know Florida is one of the US states that a phytosanitary is required . All the Vendors ( not Ebay sellers) have their info sticker on outside of the box. Each State is different . But everyone does it.
Joanne
I will send them FREE just for shipping. What did the sender write on box . papers what was in box ? Did you buy the leaves ? Did she has a phytosanitary ?

Joanne
Were the leaves and postage free to you just gifts from her ?
To be honest it is not to swift to ship leaves or plants far distance when it is so cold. I feel best if I ship to you in Late March to April depending on your weather. I do have think insulation. I have shipped many, many boxes of plants and leaves to friends in Canada.
It does get costly I like to ship Airmail Priority. The leaves or palnts I send you will be FREE you only have to pay shipping. I have Fantasy flowers all kinds !

Joanne
Paper towel would have got all wet and soggy too.
Did she use heat pack ? Maybe the heat pack was too close this could have cook the leaves and condensation with the cold in the bags. Bags are proper way of packaging but shipping long distance in Winter is a big NO NO. Specialy out of the Country boxes can easly be held up at border. Monday was also a Holiday here she should have waited for warmer weather to ship to . She should re-place them free it was her fault.
Tell me the names I might have them !
Sorry this should have not happen to you.

I just put them up on screen and Hubby said they look like sick leaves :((. I 'll tell we had a Holiday her two. And when you ship out of the Country you ship on Monday not in the middle of the week. And you don't ship in the Winter. So I hope she sends you new ones ! Was it more expensive to ship leaves this different way. I ship them Airmail Priority .
I have an extra Ness Fantasy Gold plant you may have ! I also have lots of good leaves I will send you as soon as it's warm.
That's a very sad photo. *sniff*
I will be happy to send some leaves your way this spring...
Hey, Allison, I saved some Rx & vitamin bottles the other day because I thought they might make sturdy shipping containers for leaves... what do you think? Is there any reason not to use them in lieu of baggies? For shorter distances when the extra insulation of a box may not be needed, I thought I might even try them in a bubble envelope... might be worth a shot, as long as I'm not sending anything irreplacable!
Well depends size of leaf / I say baggies and always new are best ~
Oh plus you don't want them bouncing around in bottle . Each variety needs to be labeled.
I put them in bags and give tiny puff of air but not enough that they will move around. I tape bag. I also put them into solo cups or small box if shipping with plants.I always use new packing materials as I don't want to chance sending bugs or eggs along . If I am shipping just leaves I make sure they can not bounce around, If using heat pack I use large box and insulation so heat pack won't be near leaves or plant material, If too hot temps outside I use insulation and large box. For small orders of leaves I use small Prioruty boxes and baggings each new and labeled and some kind of peanuts or shredded Newspaper to keep them from moving , I always ship Priority Mail any plant material,
Nothing more disappointing than getting a package of dead leaves or plants covered in dirt beyond saving :((
So I myself won't ever cut corners packaging or shipping it's too important to me . It takes a long time to grow by leaf a healthy fresh leaf I would not want to
disappoint or discourage anyone by sending less, than
I'd want in return ! I also only ship leaves and plants of high value so I want to give them the best chance I can ! JUst me :))
Oh... I thought I'd been told (not by you, obviously) that leaf baggies should have lots of air, and maybe a bit of spaghnum moss or something to prevent bouncing around... and actually I guess I thought bouncing around was better than lots of contact with the plastic surface of the baggie because of condensation issues. Hmm.
I admit that the BE notion was a corner-cutting idea, but using pill bottles for leaves will make shipping a little more if anything... but I thought the sturdy containers would provide extra protection, like putting plants inside styrofoam cups. Not to worry, if I experiment, I'll do so with bonus leaves or when I'm paying the shipping!
Jill I know there is a article on shipping leaves in stickey they do a little like me and they mention not much air . If the leaf is bouncing around it can get bruised , damaged . Causing mush yuk.
Well I do put the leaves into baggies then into Styrofoam cups or in little box to protect if shipping with plants. Now plants I like to cut one baggie open roll it long way and stuff it under foliage into pot taping if needed to hold dirt . Then I take a second baggie and slip pot into it wrapping it securly around pot , So no dirt gets out i hope . Then I take 2-3 paper towels and wrap them gently around plant holding foliage in place. Then it is slipped into large cup. If plant is large cup is cut open plant put in and taped. If extra large 2-4 cups may be used. I then put a third baggie over cup and tape and put holes in it. Then they are packed in boxes so nothing moves. When plant arrives looks like I handed it to you. Little more work but to me I'm fussy it's worth it and I hope when people get their boxes of plants and leaves their happy ! I wrap most time plants in bed , Hubby does the boxing.

Lots of different ways to package. I learned from others and reading and practice . And tired of getting yuky damaged material :I I wanted to package the best I could !
I don't wrap ends as every leaf I got wrapped was mush :((
Here is one from sticky very good !

It's not your computer DG working slow does it.
Putting wet and foil on the bottom can help them freeze more and turn to mush in the hot summer has been my experience.

Can I ask you all a question? I am trying to post a new thread but am unable to do so.
I rescued a small AV from Walmart today. When I got home i realised that the little leaves by the crown are limp, not holding up as they should. They look dark green. Some of the bigger leaves have dry edges. Can I salvage it? Thank you!

Daves is acting funny today. I'm having troubles too, I sent admin an email to alert them, but I'm sure they know.
Can you post a photo of your Wally World Noid? is the soil wet or dry?
the soli is nearly dry. I also noticed that some of the leaves have a piched part on the stem, lik someone pinched it and the leaf hangs limp from that patch.
My son has the camera. I have to wait fro him to come back.
If the soil is bone dry, your little av might need a drink. Try warm water if you do water it. Maybe make sure by lifting it out of the pot to see if it's wet at all. Also the 'lift' test, if it 'looks' dry, but the pot is heavy, it might be more wet than you think.
Also, if it is bone dry and you water it, I wouldn't drench it, just start with sips of warm water, or set it in a bowl of warm water - give it 15 minutes and then lift it out. I have on occasion added a few drops of B1 to the water as well. Helps a bit when a plant is shocked.
hope I've helped and not added confusion.
Joanee did you get New leaves or plants of Emerald Love. I have a plant that can go into your boxes. Not sure if I still have and Ness Fantasy Gold I forgot about this link I will check !

Know what you are going through, Joanne. We had the same stuff yesterday. Appears these nasty fronts are coming up from the south, Washington, Idaho and Montana. I amazed that plants are still growing after the wet and gloomy spring we have experienced.
Sun's acomin'...I just know it. Ü
