What is up with ALL this rain ?!?!?!?!

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Mitch, it's a deal!! Maybe you're being too good to the natives. They're probably used to just dropping on the ground and then coming up whenever they want to, lol.

Do you have a set-up in your garage for all those trays? Special lights? Special heating?

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Try every window in the house, light in the garage..... no special heating, regular floresent lights manybe it is my fancy pots - 2 liter bottles cut off? I must be too good to the natives or something - maybe next year I will just throw their seeds out there and let them figure it out on their own. My big focus this year was tomatos and peppers - all colors. Seeing our next week is goign to be a warm one I went ahead and set them all over the porch in the gentle rain. I hope I can leave them out there until it is time to plant (with the warm winter we have had sure would be nice not to have to bring them in)

BTW - Josephine when you planted tomatos when do you plant them? I have heard St Patricks day at school, the part of the book I found said for Dallas mid March, well what day is mid March (I need a date or I go nuts... )

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I would say March 15th, I like to wait and be safe, although if you have some large pots, you can always cover them with those in case of frost, if you don't have too many plants.
I don't plant tomatoes now because the birds eat them all, and I am tired of being frustrated.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I hope to set out 30 or so mators.. that many peppers and eggplants. March 15th will be the date then I can always throw all our blankets out there (Esther will love that... lol) or just pray the frost away, I could always light some prayer candles out there (fire marshall would love that... )

Wow! if all that works out you are going to have lots of vegetables. I hope they will all do great for you. Eggplants are great, I used to make a dish with eggplant tomatoes peppers onions and garlic, and a little basil that is really wonderful, and it is not fried, so not so many calories.
If you have too much eggplant, you can dice it and freeze it, and it works great.

Finally had some nice rain for a little while here this morning ... a little ove a quarter of an inch. I was going to rip of all of my clothes and go dance in it, but husband detained me.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Hazel, All right! It seems we are all being blessed, but it is a good thing your husband stopped you, it is still too cold out there.
Josephine.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Josephine, some of us are being blessed. I sang my praises. My husband wasn't worried about it being cold. He was afraid that if I went out the front door, one of my neighbors might see me and be so repulsed that he/she might pass out or if I headed out the back door, the birds that were still feeding, even during the rain, may be so scared that they would never return.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL, Hazel! I sure know how you feel! It's so good that you got some rain over there, you guys often get left out when we're getting rain over here.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Hazel, I don't beleive any of those things you said, but I don't think it is legal to do that, unless you have a very high fence.

josephine the goal is to share lots of what we are growing this year - we hope everything makes a good crop so we can share. Would be nice just to be able to bless someone with a bag of fresh goodies.

Quoting:
maybe next year I will just throw their seeds out there and let them figure it out on their own.

Somehow Mitch, I can never see you doing that, you are too organized! LOL!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

:-) I can try right... maybe natives dont like living in a place where they have to stay in nice neat patterns...

Speaking of which I just laid out my gardens for next year on graph paper.... Have I mentioned I am a little ummmm ... .. . . ... yea organized about how they get laid out....
