What is up with ALL this rain ?!?!?!?!

Sour Lake, TX(Zone 9a)

I can see it now ... we are getting all this rain at once and when summer arrrives it will be bone dry.
We either get it all at once or we get nothing at all around here.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Wish I had received some nice rain instead of just freezing mist and drizzle. We haven't had a good rain in months. Everytime it floods, I wish I could package it all up and save it for the summer. Even a flood sounds good now.

Sour Lake, TX(Zone 9a)

I know I shouldn't be complaining htop but right now my yard is sooooo
saturated and there is rain forcasted for the entire week. Sorry that I
was complaining when there are those that would welcome rain now.

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Bring on the rain! It's horrible for my horse-riding hobby, b/c it ruins the yard to ride, but the grass needs to grow, and the fields need to be wet to plant so the seeds will grow...

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

TexasBlueBonnet, you have the right to complain about the weather in your area. I know when its raining all of the time and I haven't seen the sun for days here, I complain too (especially when I can't work in the yard) :o)

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Ladies, Camelot is what we need, don't you agree?

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh, yes! I would only add that the leaves collected overnight be mowed and added to our compost piles.
:-)

(Zone 8b)

Rain? Whats that?
Does it do that sometimes ? We have had around 1/2"( thats .5") since October!! I'm thinking my next pet might be a camel!! LOL

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

TexasBlueBonnet, if you can find a way to package it, I'll send postage and my address! I would absolutely love to see a soggy yard.

Sour Lake, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL @ LindaTX8 !!! I was just thinking I wish there was a way I could do just that
for all you guys that need it. I would be more than happy to share the wealth!!! My
yard right now is very soggy. I feel like I live in a bog right now but like I said come
summer I am going to wish it were boggy!!! We would gripe if we were hung with a
new rope too I'm sure.

Angela

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Okus, we are the same here, no rain to amount to anything in months. We are so dry. I was hoping the rain would come on south.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

no rain to amount to anything here either.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Shhhh!! Dont talk bad about the rain or it might not come back for awhile again...

repeat - We love the rain! We love the rain! We love the rain! Please bring us more rain - all summer long!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Right you are Mitch---We love the rain! and so forth and so on.
Josephine.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

By summer we are going to be begging for it!

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

The entire state is so far behind on rainfall that its become a serious problem.

Sour Lake is over around Beaumont-- Port Arthur right? According to my brother over that way--he's had very little either.

Sour Lake, TX(Zone 9a)

Port Arthur is about 25 to 30 minutes from me and not sure what to say but we have
had some amount of rain now for 4 days in a row. My yard is so saturated that I
can't walk in it without sinking to my ankles. I am sorry now that I even made the
comment, I really thought everyone was getting rain. This is our forcast for the next
2 days .....

I learned my lesson about complaining about the weather on here. Sorry that everyone
else isn't getting the rain.

Angela

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Angela, feel free to complain about anything including the weather ... I have complained about having too much rain before too. :o) Maybe it will head our way soon.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Please Angela, don't feel bad about telling what is happening to you, bless your heart.
Texas is like that, I guess, and most of the time people either have too much or too little of whatever it is.
We were just telling how it is around our area, but we weren't mad at you, we were just jealous.
Josephine.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Josephine is absolutely right ... I'm jealous. :o)

Sour Lake, TX(Zone 9a)

Thank you for your kind words htop and frostweed.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

It has been miserable cold weather with just having a slight shower and mainly mist for three or four days, with no sunshine! Then we had real rain today!!! I am sad the yard will be mud this weekend, but glad for the rain since we are so behind in our yearly totals. I don't look for it to be a rainy spring, so any we get will help this year.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

We are getting excellent rain here in Arlington, at last!!!!
Thank the Lord and hope we get some more.
Josephine.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

still nothing but "heavy mist" here...lol...I hear its supposed to rain tomorrow. Will probably come down in buckets....because I just put my tomato seedlings started under lights to "harden off" with some friends from winter sowing.

Nice plants Debbie. I hope you get the rain too.
Josephine.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Was promised rain by the weather guys ... none, not even a mist so far. :o( Still hoping ...

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

We got some "heavy fog" lol--does that count? lol

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Hazel, we've got to figure out what those weather guys have to do to repay you when the promised rain doesn't show up. It's only fair that they should compensate you in some way, right? :-)

Maybe they should have to give your whole yard - front and back - a nice, deep watering. They have a water truck and stand there all night and evenly water your yard.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

dmj1218, fog might count a little ... at least the leaves might absorb some moisture. :o)

Maggie, yes, yes, make the weather guys pay me ... deep watering my grass would be adequate compensation. San Antonio City Water Board workers were testing the fire hydrant next to my yard yesterday by releasing a flood of water from it. Because it sits in a small flowerbed I made around it, they nicely released the water into a huge funnel type thingy so the tremendous pressure of the water flow would't hurt my plants. If no plants are near the fire hydrant, they let the water just "squirt" out of it. I begged them almost on my knees to direct it to my grass, but they wouldn't do it. Yet, they assess a big fine against anyone wasting water ... sigh.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

I have a hydrant in my yard, too. When they tested it last yr, I noticed lots of soil washed out around the grass roots between the hydrant and the curb. I have been trying to fill the resulting small gully a little at a time ever since then. Grrr!

Wouldn't it be nice if they would catch the water in a basin or something? Then they could dump it on the homeowner's lawn. The least they can do for us having to landscape around them, lol.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Ladies, this is not bragging, just happiness, but it rained all last night, and now we have standing water on our patio, so I am sure it was at least 2inches.
It seems to be moving east, so maybe Angela is going to get flooded again, bless her heart.
I wish I could divert it in towards Houston and San Antonio.
Josephine.

Sour Lake, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL @ Josephine !!! Oh yes we got it and more coming!!! But, but, but NOT going
to say a word about it!!!! LOL Glad you finally got something Josehine, have a good
day and enjoy it dear.

Angela

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, we got rain overnight, the yard is nice and wet this morning. So nice!

This was the first time in a week that I actually got out into the yard to inspect things (I've been home sick all week), and I noticed... I'm not sure what to call them. They look like webs for webworms, but don't appear to have worms in them. They are in my River Birch, down in some rosemary, a couple in one of my roses, down in some Dahlerg Daisy, and a couple more places I can't remember. Should I break them up? Leave them alone? Do you think they are friend or foe? Can they be connected to the dampness? It's almost like they appeared overnight, but as I said, I haven't actually ventured out into the yard for awhile until today.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Bless you Mary, I didn't know you were sick, there have been a lot of people sick around here too, but so far we have been lucky.
Glad you got the rain, maybe Hazel got some too.
As for the webs, I would leave them alone, but watch them daily, and if they are eating the plants, you might try to see if they might be butterfly catterpillars.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Mary - hate to tell you but they are I fear a type of bag worm. Your extention office can let you know for sure... I have seen picks of bushes just covered in the things. If it is them you might be ok working fast to get them gone now - if you wait and find out it is bag worms you will lose those plants and might lose some near them. I would take some in to you fav garden center or county office and just check.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Finally raining good here--slow and steady--I hope it keeps this up for a few days--even if it is the weekend.
Less than 1/2 inch total here.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks Josephine and Mitch. I work a half day Monday, so I can check with the extension office then.

The rain has kept up, nice and easy so that it isn't simply running off a lot. I may take my little space heater out into the garage and try to make some hypertufa containers - sort of stone-looking troughs. Last night I actually planted seeds! I'm so nervous, hope at least some of them will grow. They're on top of my refrigerator, probably the warmest part of the house (I keep the thermostat set @ 60.)

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

You are just now planting seeds? I have 40 some trays going from Christmas on - most for the kids at school and here but I hope to have something to trade at the 2 April Swaps I am heading to..... I really hope!

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah, Mitch, I am really a late starter. I'm scared to death of failure when it comes to seeds. I also don't really have a place to put these things - my house is tiny, they would take over all of the kitchen counter space. Plus, I really don't keep the house as warm as the seed packets say to keep the seeds. I'm hoping for the best anyway.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Mary next year send them up here and I will get the started for you - then you will have to come this way and pick them up (hehehehehe), almost everything I plant in seeds comes up. I am having trouble with the natives wanting to come up for me.... and you would think they would be easy!
