Am I too late, or is this the time. What I want to do is direct sow some seeds, what is everyone else doing as far as wintersowing? What about peas, when can I plant those? Thanks for any info..
This may sound really dumb, but..when do we wintersow in CA
I'm doing winter sowing in some pots that are enclosed in zip lock bags. I started some just after Christmas. Those got fooled by some early warm weather and didn't do so well. I started some others two weeks ago and those have started germinating and look good.
I'm not sure how well winter sowing works here, but I'd think you'd be safe starting seeds in February. I never have any luck direct sowing, unless the seeds are large (like nasturtiums), but you might have better luck than me.
Thanks,
I've done direct fall sowing before, but not winter sowing. Lately my energy is zapped, may try some on heat mats just to get started faster.

I live in zone 7, and I plant sugar snap peas very early, sometimes in Feb. if we get some warm days. I've planted them in the Fall and they stay all Winter and produce very early in the Spring. As soon as the snow melts and the ground warms up a little, I'll be our there planting. This year has been unusual, too much snow to even get to my garden this month.Last month I had peas about a foot tall, I don't know how they're surviving now, they're buried.
