A Silly Perk Us Up Contest!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Really! What fun in the flowerless winter. You 2 winners email me your address so I can get them off to you.

I will have double pink x seeds soon. I will have another contest then for those. I was thinking of having a sky photo contest then.

We could have 2 categories, blue and white and another for multi colored skies. What do you think? Telling you all now will give you time to take some sky pictures for it.

Winter time is so brug boring, but we all have access to the sky!!

Lets hope these all ripen with no mishaps....... this is only one branch, I have more. LOL!!! . The brug is looking a bit winter weary but the pods are still holding on!!

Winter time is just BORING around here! I'm lusting for spring and to feel the warm sunshine on my skin.

Congratulations to the winners! I hope you get something special from them.

Kell, I remember a fun thread we had going on here a couple years ago. I wonder if I can find it! LOL

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

LOL I found it! http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/467132/

San Diego, CA

Looks like I'm heading for dump to find a bunch of those cage things and buy a lot of Spagnum moss, then to Lowe's for some plants. I figure if I can get $585 for one of those, I can make a couple of million dollars this summer should I be able to find a few suckers willing to pay that for them. It's amazing what some people will pay for stuff.

Thanks for the contest!

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

Wow, Brinda... thanks for bringing up that old thread of Kell's. Those are some incredible pics.

Kell, three weeks ago I lost two cats within a week - and thought I had lost a third one! One was elderly but had not been sick long so it was unexpected. The second was drug off by a pack of dogs that come through almost daily ! My kitten disappeared a few days later and I was so sure it,too, had been a victum of the dogs, but he showed up 8 days later so thin I barely recognized him. He is now gaining weight and I am so happy to have one happy outcome. Those pictures are precious. I,too, was lucky enough to take pictures just a few weeks before I lost mine.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Libby, that is just terrible. You must feel awful. Won't the authorites catch those dogs? They may grab a toddler next. Awww, your little kitten is going to make it. I am so glad. It is hard to lose one to old age, but to dogs, that is so much harder. My heart really goes out to you!!! May we see a picture?

I remember that contest. It was great because we all had such great pics to look at. LOL

I am glad I looked at this thread again, I had totally forgotten I had to get these seeds out. I am hopeless. i still do not have my seeds bagged.

Lizella, GA(Zone 8a)

Oh,, Libby, that is terrible about your kitties.. Soooo bad that some awful people don't control their animals..or probably just dumped them....... Hugs, Elaine

Fun Contest Kell! Thank-x!
Sorry about your Kitty. :-(

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

My neighbor walked over last night to tell me her 2 dogs and cat disapeared yesterday. She was crying.

She said some one has been peeping in windows, they moved around rocks where they were standin at her moms widow, Peeped into another window and they stole a tank of gas from another neighbors. truck.

But her poor babies. They always let us know when something was out there. She is heart broken. The police came out but did not stay long.
These houses are all right here in a line with mine. Really scarey thought not being safe in your own home.

I am so sorry Libby, I know you must be so heartbroken.

Blessings,
Sandy ^8^

Lizella, GA(Zone 8a)

Sandy,, so sorry about your neighbor's babies. You be careful..You do have "protection" don't you? Besides that guardian angel?? Hugs, Elaine "Ms Worrywart" my husband says.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

That is so sad, Sandy! I hope they find them and your neighbor is OK!!

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Not to change the sugject but.... Kell the sky photo contest you were talking about, is it just the sky like sunsets, rain clouds, rainbows and cool clouds or pretty plants with sky in the background? I think this would be a fun contest. It will give me a reason to brush the dust off my diggi.
Thanks for the fun Kell!!
Caren

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

All sky Caren, no plants. It levels the field for all I was thinking, everyone has access to the sky! And it is such a pretty subject.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

$79.95 popped into my head before even seeing it so I will go with that.

Jeanette

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Jeanette!! You are $505.05 dollars short and a week late.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

That is so funny Kell. Story of my life. LOL

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Now I heard the old saying "A dollar short and a day late" but it takes on a new meaning with $505.05 short. Jeanette thanks for the laught today. It is such a dreary day here today. Rain all day long and I needed a laught.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

That was a little bit off wasn't it? But, I tried to imagine that cart without the moss and the plants and I think my $80 was a little high. LOL

I hear you laughing. Sounds good.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Oh, BTW Kell, you know that seedpod I have goin' on my sister's Sang? Well, boy, it is hard as a rock and about as big as a golf ball.

What do you think I can expect? It has been almost 4 months now. I haven't looked inside to see what the seeds look like. What do you think I should do?

Jeanette

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I think you have about 5 more months to watch it. LOL! Good Luck. Seed pod watching is hard on some of us.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Yup, Brugie is right. Sang pods take about nine months to ripen.

Oh gosh Jeanette, that is exciting!! I am so glad you are going into summer now and not winter. They seem to just stagnate over winter here.

I am not an expert on sang pods but mine didn't show they were ripe at all. Not one sign. The pod wall is very thick. I waited for a year on some special ones, and it was almost too late. Some germinated in the pods. LOL.

So keep an eye out on the calendar and come June/July I would cut a hole in it to see. Let me ask Jeanne to put her 2 cents in here. She is so knowledgeable about sangs.

Here is one of mine, I finally made a hole in it to see if the seeds were ripe.

Who is Jeanne? And where is she? I want her 2 cents worth. I will give her back a nickle. LOL

I don't think my sister is going to want to wait another 6 months with that bag hanging on it. Maybe it doesn't need the bag. But, she had so many aphids in her greenhouse, almost all on the brugs, that she cut them way back. The seed catalogs refused to send lace wing eggs in the mail due to the cold weather and she had tried everything else. She left that one branch with my seedpod on.

Jeanette

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

For a minute I thought I had called you Jeanne by mistake, Jeanette, how soon I forget. I emailed Jeanne a while back but she may be gone for the weekend. I haven't heard from her since Friday. She is Brugcrazy on here and has the most beautiful sangs around.

So why are you bagging your pod? Believe me, the seeds will not fly all over on this one. LOL

Has she tried Palmolive dish soap, a tablespoon to a half gallon of water. It kills my aphids every time.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

I'll give Jeanne a DIME!!!! LOL

I will tell my sister about the Palmolive dish soap. I know she tried Safer's but I think that stuff is worthless. I gave her Neem oil, I haven't heard how that worked or not. She really harrassed those seed companies over the lace wing eggs but no dice.

Jeannette, 8-9 months for a sang pod to ripen. Sometimes you can feel the seeds in it, other times you can't. Don't cut it open until at least 8 months. Patience is the key. I have one almost ripe now, I'll try and take pictures later.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Oh, I would love to see pictures. This is so interesting. I have never had a seedpod before of any kind. This is about the size of a agolf ball and hard as a rock. So cool.

Thank you. Jeanette

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

My neighbors dogs returned in great shape. But her kitty did not. It is too mysterious. She said they love mud and water but returned home very clean??

Elaine, I will be buying those small items that fit into the "protection" you were speaking of. I am also a worry wart, when I know someone is around. The area has gotten so bad since Katrina. I am sure alot of it is our residence acting out and people from Katrina being blamed. But you know we are outside Houston just 30 miles. And they did bus alot of gang members and criminals over here.

I someone comes to my house that knows me, they better make sure I know it is them. I will "protect" and ask questions later.

Thanks all.
