Uptown babies.... potting up plantlets!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

It's time to start moving some of the babies into their own little pots -- what fun!

I potted up 4 plantlets of Rebel's Rosebud a couple weeks ago... Here are the two larger ones now... Adorable!

Edited to add links to the previous thread, http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/565416/ and to the first one (with "master list" of varieties), http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/562567/

Here's the crowded leaf pot they came from!

A photo of my upstairs AV stand... I will soon have to start using the 5th shelf! :-)

Here are some other standard plantlets I potted last night...

"Big Blue noid" plantlets are on the left. That's my huge, tough, ever-blooming favorite noid!

'Apache Victory' plantlets are along the right side of the tray, with the two 'Rebel's Rosebud' at the back of the row.

The middle row is 'Buckeye Boysenberry' (pink variegation), then 'Buckeye Bellringer' (white variegation), then an unknown variegated standard that's looking for a home (could be named variety but clay pot has lost its label).

My two leaf pots of 'Allegro Appalachian Trail' were getting pretty crowded, as you can see here.

I separated the plantlets from one of the 'AAT' leaf pots, which had had 2 leaves in it to start.... Wow, I ended up with 5 pots of larger plantlets and 5 more pots with 3 small plantlets each!

I think everyone is getting this one in their trade box, whether they want it or not, LOL!

I'm very excited to see some buds on my main plant of 'Biscayne Trail'! I've taken a couple of crowns off it, and it responded by getting lots of little suckers... but right now it just looks weird, with that huge clump of little crowns in the center and a few older, greener leaves sticking out around the edges. I'm hoping those little crowns will start trailing soon, and then the plant should look gorgeous! In the meantime, I think it's best to leave those older leaves on even though they look so odd, just because there's not much green now in the rest of the plant.

I started potting up some of the little 'Cambridge Missy' plantlets a couple of weeks ago just because these leaf pots were starting to look really crammed. Since they're pretty little, they went 3 to a thumbprint pot for now.

As I've said before, this is another variety where there will be plenty to go around -- and then some!

These 3 leaf pots of 'Candy Crystals' are coming along nicely... growth has been a little slow since they first put up "ears" but I think they're about to really take off.

Here's a recent photo that I think I've already posted, but wanted to show again the bloom on 'Candy Crystals':

I have a couple of "Guessaroo noid" plantlets from cuttings, and also quite a few plantlets growing in this leaf pot. This one is from a sported or misnamed 'Rob's Gundaroo'.

Nanna's "Gypsy" noid has finally bloomed again for me... no pinwheel pattern this time, but a fun raspberry fantasy bloom! It may just be an unstable plant, but I think that's part of its charm... I'll look forward to each new bud opening!

(sorry for out of focus photo)

If anyone wants to try an offspring from the above plant, I've got a leaf pot filled with plantlets here!

I have lots of 'Midget Gumdrop' plantlets from suckers... I'm thinking that with a little more time to grow good roots, these will take off and start looking much better!

I've got half a dozen small suckers in another box, and here are two leaf pots of 'Pink Dove' with some little plantlets looking cute!

Similarly, here are some plantlets in leaf pots of 'Plumberry Glow'.

And some 'Pride of Columbus' plantlets in leaf pots!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

My main plant of 'Pride of Columbus' has started budding... and you can see another nice sucker forming in this photo... There are a couple of other suckers trying to turn into plantlets upstairs too.

Dana, here's the 'Rob's Bunny Hop' with your name on it! I removed a couple of suckers, so now it's looking better groomed. I gave away two little plantlets in bud as "party favors" at my DG tea on Saturday... you'd have loved the way Nancy was cradling hers protectively, hardly wanting to set it down!

There are four more 'Rob's Bunny Hop' plantlets rooting from suckers along the left side of this container. 'Midget Gumdrop' plantlets are front left, center row is 'Smitten Kitten', and right side pots are little 'Winnie the Pooh' suckers and leaves from 'Silly Girl' and 'Rob's Ragamuffin'.

'Rob's Outer Orbit' plantlets are growing in their leaf pots and will soon need potting up on their own!

Here's begonia's "Rosie Girl" noid plantlet.... I have another, almost as nice LOL with Lorry's name on it (actually the two look just the same).

Hey, Bluekat! Here are a couple of plantlets I've saved out for you... 'Grape Slush' (baby from the one you gave me), and my "Big Blue" noid that you asked for!

Oh, remember that row of suckers & plantlets above? Well, here are 2 more leaf pots with 'Smitten Kitten' babies.... looks like that's another variety with plenty of babies to go around! :-)

Some more leaf pots....

Lower left corner is a sad little leaf of 'Rob's Temptress' that is bravely producing a couple of plantlets.
Middle left pots are 'Sure to Please', with lots of ears growing slowly.
Back left corner is a larger plantlet of 'Cambridge Missy', still suckering!

Front center is my lone plantlet from leaf of 'Rob's Ragamuffin'. I'll have to try to figure out who had first dibs on it!
Back center are two leaf pots with lots of ears & plantlets of 'Madeleine' growing slowly.

Back right are two leaf pots of 'Baby Jay', also growing slowly. The plantlet (actually 2 plantlets) in front of them is 'Cloud Puff', and there actually is a tiny plantlet in the right front corner that I downpotted this morning ('Silly Girl')

One more group shot...

'Silly Girl' and 'Cloud Puff' (back right & center), "Magenta Star" noid (front center), 'Tiger Trail' crown cuttings (middle left), 'Child's Play' plantlets from leaf (front right), and others. The one with tiny leaves is 'Marion's Enchanted Trail' -- my only successful cutting so far -- and I think Dana has dibs on it, as it was one I was hoping to include in our first trade before I lost the plant and had to get a tiny new one!

Waiting.....

Couldn't jump in until I got my bucket and mop out to sop up all my drool! kidding!
WOW, great job!

I just put down another hundred leaves. All of my DP bargain violets (the ones that I have not killed) needed to be 'rejeuvenated', so off went their outter leaves, and they got repotted to eliminate their long necks. The new growth on them is super. So had plenty of leaves to set. They're smaller but much healthier looking now.

All your babies look great. I have a few with ears now. My EverRejoice that Ali gave me and now a few more have chimed in

Super babies and pictures, Jill! You know you sucked me right into the thread with those variegated leaves in the first post. When we do a trade, will you tuck in a little bit of your knowledge and skill into the box, too? ;o)

"I just put down another hundred leaves."

!!!!!

Good night, Lali, you are going to have to open a violet shop with all those babies!

Well, you know I'll have my eye on those Buckeyes, and oh wow, take a look at this bloom from 'Fredette's Risen Star'.... It may be more raspberry than purple if you look at the alternate photo, but either way, that sparkle edge is fantastic!

Just want to make sure I have plenty to trade and share around. Besides, it's incredibly threaputic to primp and preen AV's and then put down the leaves.
All look good, except for the Fredette's Moonflower, which looks nothing like the description color. It's pretty though!

Jill how about some new up-dated pictures on your babies . Are you using the 5 th shelf now ? Are all babies in their own pots ?

LOL.... I've been pretty busy, and we've been in & out. Hopefully I'll be able to take & download some new pics soon... DH had this huge proposal that he was working on nonstop, and he was using the "good" computer that I use for photo stuff....

I've lost some of the smaller plantlets while getting used to the watering on the little thumbprint pots, but most are doing fine.... some growing much more slowly than I'd like, so I may be sending out some trade plants now & more in fall when they're a better size & closer to blooming.

Silver Spring, MD

Great work, Jill.

Thanks Jill :))

What can we say except how gorgeous they all are. Looking so green and healthy. I'm just green with envy.
