Great another MUST have...

Allison, your Baby Colors is very pretty.
Lorry,do you have a picture of your Rosalie?
Everytime I see something with Rose or Rosie,in the name-it draws me to it because my husband & I had a very special "Rosie" in our lives for 11 years-a beautiful Boykin Spaniel.I still miss her very much.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I don't have one but I can take one when I get home.
She isn't in bloom right now though.
I will post a photo of it tonight.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Lorry when you get home look at the back of the leaves and see what color they are .
I do love pink in the leaves !
Loretta what is happening to your plant ? Where did you say you bought it. And it says trailer ? Do you have a picture? Tell us more whats going on with it so we can help you !

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

What color is the back of the leaves Lorry ? It's gorgous !

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

The back of the leaves are pink!
I can send you leaves of this one also if you like!
I also have some leaves up of her

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

WOW sure close to red. I'd love leaves. Sure seems more like the other
Rosalie (A. E. Adams) Semidouble dark rose/rays. Variegated dark green and pink, plain. Miniature
It could be Sporting >> You could always ask Nancy.
It's so gorgous I can't help but wish all leaves had pink in them !

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Ok I will pop some leaves of her into the box..and good idea about asking Nancy...I never considered that it is sport...that may be the case :)

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

I bought the A.V. at a nursery in MI.,I guess now is'nt the time to buy them here, they think I let the frost get to it..For now I'll just wait til warmer weather and buy some more... :o((

Loretta..

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Maybe it was not healthy when you bought it ? Was it out in the cold ? They don't like the cold even cold air or drafts.
Even in Florida her it is cold and we wrapped all of Jan's plants she was taking home and they just went into her heated truck and then into her home.
How long was it in the cold ?
Is this the only African violet plant you have ?
I will have some babies to share in the Spring for shipping :))

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Our Temps were in the low 20's,and we went directly to the van and made no more stops...It is a well known nursery here in MI.and never had any problem with anything else I bought from there..I do have a few others just ordinary ones I got as gifts years ago,and they do great..
Now I think the van should have been heated, but I thought it would be o.k.,guess not it's dead..
I would pay you for shipping and any other cost if you send in the Spring..Right now we have snow and it's 19 degrees out...You sure do have some beautys there..Lauri was the one to tell me about them,so I looked and got hooked...I was really happy when I saw them,I sure am glad I did'nt buy more...TIA..

Loretta...

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Violet_Treasure, could I get on your babys list too??? I'll pay all costs and even trade you a cat who thinks she can type.. Thanks ..Lauri

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Sure you can jump right on my baby list !
I don'y know about the cat as we already have a dog that can type :))

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Lorry like your Rosalie Av , my Baby Colors and Baby Moonbeam both have pink in the foliage but not in FC. I think they both have dark pink or red backs and does not day this in FC either yet blooms match FC. I don't mind I like a little extra pink anytime !
Baby Colors (R. Armstrong) Single-semidouble pink pansy/blue fantasy. Variegated medium green and white. Semiminiature
" Mine has deep pink in foliage and backing "
Maybe cold air or enviromant does this ?

Baby Moonbeam (H. Pittman) Semidouble blue and white. Variegated green and white. Miniature
Also has pink in babies foliage. Except if I labeled
baby suckers wrong ? One has a bunch of buds soon to open I'll find out .

Lorry, thank you so much for your pictures.
Your Rosalie leaves are beautiful & your plant looks happy & healthy.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

ChristmasCactus I have a Aly's Rosy Baby " trailer" for you. I have Rose Splash too :))

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Violet_Treasures I was told by the nursery to cut off all the top and it will come back..Do you think thats possible?

Loretta..

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

That's all they told you cut off the top and it will come back ? Ok your sure it's a trailer. Does it have more than one crown ? You could take the crown ( the top part off) and put it into a small pot or plastic cup with hole and light soil-less mix and root the crown.
You can also take the plant out of the pot , take any dead limp foliage off. Let the roots dry. take any excess heavy soil off. Repot in a new pot small correct size with light soil-less mixture.
Did you pau a lot of money for it ? If you have it only one day they should exchange it or fix it for you or refund your money. Do you have a picture ?
Allison

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Hi Allison,I don't have a camera yet,so no picture..I'll will try to do as you say,and hope for the best..The owner of the nursery will be in Wed..so I will call him and see if he will replace it for me..The sign did say trailing A.V...With the soil, plant, fertilizer and pot the price was $69.82..The manager told me I let it freeze, which I say never happened, but the van was cold..Thanks for your advice I will let you know what happens...

Loretta..

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Koretta,
Let me get this right. You paid $69.82 One day ago it's dying and they have not offored ro replace ? Did they wrep it up for you . For this price $69.82 it should have some gold with it ~

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I agree with Allison!

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

No gold just a dead plant...The manager is blaming me for letting it freeze..It was in a doulble pot with a bag on top and one on the bottom, that's how it was wrapped...The plant alone did'nt cost that much it's the other stuff she told me to buy that got it to that total..I hope once the owner gets in,he will replace it for me..If not he just lost a few good customers...

Loretta....

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Loretta
You mean she had you buy soil, fertilizer, pot and plant. for $69.82 ?
One plant right ?
You should take the reciept and everything back and tell them you would like a refund. If that's all you bought and one plant, one or two or even three days later doing poorly this is not right.
They are taking advantage of customers and charging too much and selling plants that are not healthy. Taking it straight home covered in a bag would not kill it and if they thought so they should not be selling them.
I am sorry this happened to you .

Thank you sweet Allison!!
Now to look up Rose Splash.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Rose Splash (H. Pittman) Semidouble rose-pink/darker eye. Dark green, plain. Semiminiature
Here she is do you like her !

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Hi Allison that was for one plant..The lady that waited on us told me what to buy so I would have success in growing it..Bought all she said and still have a dead plant..I sure would like to get some of yours,I will pay all shipping cost plus buy them from you, because it looks like to me you know what to do with all those beauties you have growing..
The leaves on mine looked like they were varigated, now I think it was frost bitten when I bought it
,because where the white was on the leaves it's all black now..Sure wish I had a camera to show you,but I probably would'nt know how to post it anyhow...

Loretta...

Don't you worry Loretta, plenty of us have babies on the way and should be able to outfit you before long!

Stuff is always a bit more spendy at a nursery vs a big box store like HD. When I worked at a local nursery, we had a no questions asked return policy. Rarely did someone abuse it, but on occasion some one did. BUT what it did do was ensure a repeat customer. Even if the plant demise was due to the customer. We'd issue a new plant or a credit. The little guy like that has to watch out for customer service or the big box stores swallow em up!

Sorry that your new baby isn't thriving. is there any part of the crown that looks viable? I ordered some via eBay and the seller had the heat pack too close, so they arrived cooked! I was able to salvage the crown in some cases.

The bright side is that you have all the gear to be successful and between all of us here, we should be able to help you out with the other part.
Hopefully the owner will take care of you, never hurts to remind them in a friendly way where their $ comes from.

Oh Loretta sorry. Bringing it to your car in a covered bag and home did not kill it. I don't know what the hek they charged you for but sounds like the sales persion was on comission and took advantage of you. Does the sales reciept have a return policy ? I would return everything tomorrow and insist on a full refund !
I'd be happy to send you a box of baby plants for just shipping .

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Loretta you listen to them and take everything back to the manager and tell him you want a refund for the full amount and have found reliable suppliers for your AV's..
OMG more pretty pictures...I'm sitting here wiping drool from my chin. They are so pretty and delicate looking. Violet_Treasure that one for me too?? Oh goodie and Thank You ....Lauri

Allison,I love Rose Splash & Blueberrt Mint!!
They are just beautiful!!

Oh Loretta, I certainly hope they'll give you a refund. That's just not right to do you that way. begonia's right though, between all of us, we should be able to set you up quite nicely with AVs. :o)

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Thanks everyone,I will be making the trip back to the nursery with my dead plant..The receipt does not show any return policy, you can't hardly read it the letters are faded out..I opened the soil and fertilzer and used the pot to plant the A.V. in...So I know they won't refund me that..She was kinda pushy in telling me what all to buy,so I would be sure to have a healthy plant..Well that's not so in my case,I got a mushy blackened plant..I will be at the nusery in the morning and see what happens...
I want to thank you all for your good advice..And will be more then happy to pay for all shipping and any other cost on getting your AV's...Once this is over they will no longer get anymore of my business...

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Loretta,
You bring everything back even the soil . And check the Fertilizer . Is it fo African violets ? Does it have Urea in it If it does Urea is bad for Av's.
If it cost too much they charge to much you don't need it bring it all back. Tell the Mgr. They pushed you into buying all this to keep your plant healthy and the plant was not heathy to begin with and you want a 100 percent refund. If they give you a problem tell nicely you are going to report them to the Better Business Burea and tell all your friends too !
I will be very happy to send you some big boxes of named plants as soon as I get caught up shipping to some of our other DG Africa violet forum friends here !
Probaly middle of next month weather permitting. I do use thick insulation and heat packs but they can only do so much protection.
Allison

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Hi Allison the soil was for AV's,and she lied there too told me only highend nurseries sell it,my daughter saw it at Lowes for under $5.00 I paid $9.95 for the same sized bag..The bottle of fertizer was cheaper too..The manager does get a bonus every 3 months on all the sales that's made..I talked to another employer there and was told about her being pushy and she does not get along with any of the other workers..The lady told me when I left she said to her see that sale I made that's what I want to see the rest of you workers do...She will be at work tomorrow and will say it to the boss while I'm there..All of the AV's are not no where to be seen, not selling them anymore..I will be bringing everything back too..Now I'm mad before I was just sad, about them dying..
As soon as you want to ship to me when you think it's o.k.I will pay shipping, handling or any other cost to you or any of the others. You are one great group here so kind and helpful..I will let you all know what happens...Thanks all for being so nice to me...Loretta..

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Dang, I'm sorry you had such a poor experience at that nursery! I'd be steamed and demanding a full refund too. Hope that works out... Even more, I hope this won't leave a sour taste in your mouth with regard to AVs! I know how sad it is to watch a frostbitten plant slowly disintegrate...

There sure will be lots of trading going on here this spring... I'm hoping to set up some trades for sunny perennials also in return for my AVs, and I figure anything you grow would be hardy for me, so Dmail me & we can set something up!

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

I got the complete refund, dirt and all..The owner was very nice but the manager had a attitude,I guess she wanted the commission worst then she wanted a satisfied customer..The saleslady was there and told him exactly what she said when we left..All the AV's are being sent back to the grower they all came in frozen..What I thought was varigated was frost bite..
Thanks all you gave me moral support,I did mention Dave's there and how y'all grow such beautiful AV's..
So anyone that is willing to send me some AV's I will pay for all cost as shipping and handling, and whatever else it takes to get some of your plants..Thanks Again you gardeners are the best..!!

Loretta..

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Way to go Loretta! Glad it worked out for you. Should renew your faith in that nursery.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)
