I feel like starting a thread.

Denver, CO

The inhibitions that say that a bragging thread is narcissistic are just not here today. I'm bragging on Allsion's plantlets she sent me. They aren't exactly small anymore.

I also want to use the opportunity to ask a question: Should 'Steel Blue' open like this, with incurved petals?

A noid. Two leaves gave me about seven plants that are starting to bloom.

Denver, CO

And I'd like to ask anybody's permission to use this as the PlantFiles' first picture for Ness' Midnight Fantasy.' I love it.

Rob's Argyle Socks is still up to looking handsome. But when will he bloom...

While I'm bragging, I feel like showing my AV friends what kind of Rockwork I do. This is my friend's back yard.

and I should end with a two-composite picture of the corner of my room where things get grown for the benefit of a winterlocked Mad Gardener.

Your Rob's Argyle Socks is the most awesome plant I've ever seen ! Love the variegation.
Midnight Fantasy Super Wow you should post it in Plant Files !
What's the name of the little plant ?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

You know what I do Kenton you can try it if you like I gently lift all bloom stems threw leaves so all blooms are in a bouquet in the cneter of the plant ! And not hidden under foliage. Which Plant is the one first picture on the right ?
Your plant room is great ! And your rock designs too !
I love seeing pictures Thanks for Sharing them ! You do have green arms.
OH PS I love Fantasy !

Denver, CO

Perhaps 'Steel Blue' has not gotten used to the change of environment. Many doubled-flowered plants bloom single in their first few tries. I will just keep an eye on it.

The the righthand plant is 'Fantasy radience.' I found it's original pot and had a laughing fit; the leaves of it now are bigger than the pot!!! It is amazing to me that is is not only the fastest grower for me but (shhhh, don't tell anyone) it is the first pink flower I like! It's first flower was nice, but better ones are coming.

the tiny variegated plant is the frozen 'Space Cadet!' It is doing very well now.

The first time I pulled the stems (carefully) through the top, I snapped the first buds on 'Midnight Fantasy,' so I am over-leery now. I will be more skilled and get over it later, eh?

More plantlets have buds, I will post when they bloom.

Wow, great plants. That argyle socks is beautiful.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Kenton I can't believe in just two months they have grown ! They were tiny little babies ! I had never seen
'Fantasy radience.'bloom so beautiful ! Have you put leaves down of them all. Ness Midnight Fantasy is to die for ! I have babies as I stoled a leaf from your plant :))
Your room is so neat. I just love all the pictures !

Denver, CO

I took your advice and put leaves down. I think that 'Millenia' is the only one that has failed thus far. One 'Fantasy Radiance' threatens to have ears already!
Kenton

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Really wow. How did your Ness Blueberry Kiss baby do ? One I grew by leaf I never have seen bloom . And Millenia did it die you mean. Not bad one plant.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Ness' Blueberry Kiss (D. Ness) Single white sticktite star/large blue tips. Medium green. Small standard
Grow me one if it does good please. :))

I'm in love with Midnite Fantasy!!! Great pics - thanks for sharing them. I love the room setup and the Banana.

If anyone has pups they would want to trade/share for postage in the spring, let me know!

Denver, CO

I'm sorry. I am not entirely clear tonight. My two leaf attempts have failed on 'Millenia,' but the plant has buds. 'Ness' bluberry Kiss' crown-rotted long ago. It was early enough that I did not get a leaf off of it. Shucks. I would grow you one!

What kind of Pups, Anita? I recently (I can be such a dingbat) that that thing is not a Musa (banana) and I have had it for years. It is an Ensete (ornamental banana.) It will go back outdoors. I do have other bananas, though.
Kenton

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

The Ensete is lovely - I wouldn't be getting any fruit off a musa, so it doesn't matter. I thought a 'banana' would look great with my elephant ears in the back corner of my garden. Can the Ensete be dug up and stored like the Musas?

Denver, CO

That's good question, I have no clue about Ensetes in that. I have not done the dug & store (like geraniums) treatment of Bananas at all. I have a few pups of Musa 'Dwarf Cavendish' which is small enough to produce fruit for a temperate person in a very big pot. I have to finish mucking about with them before I know if I have an extra if you are interested. I bought Ensete seeds from Park's Seed, and had 1/5 germination, so a surplus of them is not the case right now either.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Wow, Kenton, thanks for sharing those gorgeous bloomers! I especially enjoyed the photo of the plant-stuffed corner of your room... I remember when you had only those window shelves for your african violets, and now they seem to have taken over rather more space, LOL!

Denver, CO

Now who was it that predicted such a silly thing... Was it you?

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Anitabryk2:
I have plenty of banana pups coming up right now so I should have one to trade by the time it warms up there.

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

bragging threads are all the rage!

Love both bloomers in your first pic. And can you post closer pics of your other plants in your grow room? (Or maybe you already have somewhere and I just haven't seen them?)

Those are all just beautiful! And what a knock-out Argyle Socks is!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Thought of you yesterday Kenton, I was coming home from San Francisco when I got a call from my two best friends begging me to join them in Bodega Bay for clam chowder (how could I say no!) so I scooted west and as I'm driving along, (it's in the 70's, the top on the Beetle is down, my car full of new plants from a plant sale in SFO....ahh what more could a gal want) woops, got sidetracked ...and there is an old farmstead with Calla's lining their driveway and fences. Not one or two mind you, but 4' clumps of the big white fellas! Hundreds of them! ALL in bloom!
If I go back in the next week or so I'll make sure to have my camera!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

wow - please do!! I'd love to see that!

hurrumph...top down, 70's...

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

And my MP3 blasting so that they could hear my music four cars away!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

and I suppose you were singing at the top of your lungs?

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Like no other! And since I'm stuck in a time warp, I had all my 70's bands playing.

Denver, CO

I had a similar experience when I took a plant-oriented roadtrip to the pacific NW. (Where I travelled through 2zeus' town. Wish I'd known her then!)

-A blue Chevy s-10 with a camper shell duct-taped to it pulls into an Idaho gas station, classical music calling out from open windows. Other gas patrons try not too look all at once and wonder what kind of plants fill the shell. What most of them cannot identify are Bamboo, Palms, ferns and others....

Keyring, seeing as how I have an officail Brag thread, (Thanks everyone. I'm not that experienced; I've been a wild gardener for only two years.) I will post some more propagation pictures.
