Thanks V_T for VF11 suggestion

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Allison was discussing VG11 last week, so on Thursday I called. Eleanor answered the phone and we visited briefly, and she sent a sample without the $3 charge (I'm planning to send it to her anyway just to cover her postage costs). It arrived yesterday!!! So, I am planning to do some repotting and new cuttings tonight. Will keep you posted as to results. I may do a little bit of testing - use the VF11 on some and Superthrive or something on another of the same plant.

Thanks for the suggestion, Allison.

Yeah ! This is great Sharon ! Eleanor is so kind ! I think it's so nice she sends out free samples and the bottle is large enough to make 8 gallons !
I remember a few years ago she sent me my free sample without the three dollars. And she shipped it Prirotiy and at the time cost $ 3.85.
Eleanor's VF-11 like to work alone with no other fertilizer.
Please share with us your experience and experiments :))
Thanks , Allison

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I got the free sample and then ordered a gallon from Charleys greenhouse :) I just LOVE this stuff also :)

What is VF-11 and where can you buy it?

JesseK

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I sent my $3 last week - I thought I would give it a try. I'm also experimenting with Superthrive..

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm going to go ahead and order a case of gallons and the sprayer, since we usually plant a large vegetable garden, also. If it just does half of what it says it will be super!

I think it greatly contributed to the turn around in this AV. Here's a photo album of it's progress. You can see it was pale and looked almost chlorotic. After a month on VF-11 it truned around. It's presently blooming it's head off, and has given me two nice sized pups with more babies on the way.

I use to buy by case and bought s[rayer and used it on lawn and gardens and inside plants. Awesome !

Laurie your plant is beautiful ! Amazing.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I use the superthrive with my orchids and when repotting. I'm also using it on any new propagations. Supposedly great on growing strong roots.

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

That is a big turn-around Laurie. I also use Eleanors VF-11 on my violets and they seem to luv it.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I have some Superthrive although I've never used it. Now I can't decide which I should use. VF-11 or Superthrive. Any more opinions?

JesseK

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I personaly would use Eleanors-Vf-11 and no Superthrive that's from my experience.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Superthrive is not a fertilizer - and they advertise that it should be used in conjuction with one. My reading has lead me to believe that it is an aid in getting good root growth and therefore useful in propagation and transplanting - that is what I am experimenting with.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Your right Anita . And Eleanor's VF-11 is both put together and needs to be used alone !

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

cool!! I didn't know that! Excellent! I've just heard so much about it, I thought I'd give it a shot on my AV's. I use the superthrive with my orchid fertilizer and my regular houseplant fertilizer.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, I just called and spoke to Eleanor and she is shipping me out a sample bottle of the VF-11. I told her that she was highly recommended by a lot of people on Dave's Garden. I tried to pay her but she would not accept any money from me. She sounds like a really nice lady. I'm so glad that I read this forum and I am waiting for my VF-11 so that I can start using it right away. Thanks so much to all of you for letting me know about it.

OH Eleanor is so nice ! The sample makes 8 gallons !
Then you can buy cases from her at savings or from Charley's at a good price too ! But use it alone.
I just love what it does . Laurie's plant I can't get over.
WOW is what I say !USe it alone though please.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Could someone direct me to the thread that shows Laurie's almost dead plant and how it came back to life?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Anita, how much superthrive do you add to the water for your orchids? Mine are struggling. :-(

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Jesse here it is and I bumped up for you

I think the Kartuz customer service rep could use a lesson in customer service from Miss Eleanor! She has gained quite a following by providing a free sample and personalized service!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes look how takes time to talk with each one of us !

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Jill - I had read that some people were putting 10 drops and others 1 drop per gallon. I am trying ~5 drops. It's only been about 2 weeks, so I will give it more time before I make any major observations.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks! The directions on the package aren't much help... recommended amounts are from 1 drop to 1/4 tsp per gallon, LOL. I tried 10 drops per gallon on my AVs last week, and I think they enjoyed it.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I have a question. Where do you go to find a list of all of the names of AVs? I have two with names, one is called Asteroid and the other one is called Bia. The name of the Nursery that sells them is Nature's Heritage, and they are located in NC. I looked on their website but could not find a list of names of their AVs. So I was wondering if there is a master list somewhere that you could look up your AVs on.

JesseK

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Jesse there is a program that can be bought from AVSA called First Class here is the link for it.
http://firstclass2.com/
I think your plants are
Ultra Violet Asteroid (8359) 02/23/1996 (Green Circle/Blansit) Semidouble dark red sticktite ruffled pansy. Light green, plain. Standard

and
Bia I could not find.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I've read about a 'master list' but can't seen to find it anywhere. Is FC the only way to get this info?

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

http://www.avsa.org/

the above link has photos of many named varieties but unfortunately there is not master list that I know of.

Some varieties are not listed at any place I have looked at...and I have even had to add some to my first class that were not listed there...

To further complicate things, some are not registered..so the short answer is..I don't think you will find ALL the named AVs anywhere.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Looks like there is a printed version available, but what a pain to have to type it all in. Wish I could use FC

Yes all plants on FC are not registered. AVSA charges
money for the program and to keep it going. their not going to give it free to any organization. Were not even supose to make copies of our CD.
It's well worth the money.
I wish you could use it too Laurie !
I use mine each day. I also add plants not in it to it !
