faimly is here which doesnt help when my kitchen is have destroyed.
then i lost this thread didnt mark it to be watched.
i hope everyones grows. this plant seems to be one of the many wonders hidden from gardens.
CLOSED: Looking for Mirabilis Longiflora
me too. would be nice to hear how everyone grows this flower later this summer. or - how they are dreaming about their plans, now.
Am hoping to grow mine under a standardized white buddleia in the center of a flower garden, with the fragrant, white night-flowering gourd, Lagenaria siceraria, growing up through the yew hedge behind. I'm sure my nose will thank me (if not the yew).
Well, and then there's pots - much easier to bury your nose in a flower that way.
I finally got my seed in yesterday! I will have about 25 to trade. Depending on how many are in need I can give two pkt of 10 and one pkt of 5, or 5 pkts of 5 JLMK.
As for where I will plant them I have all my Mirabilis in a bed by themselves so they can just go crazy. I have added a Little gem Magnolia to the bed. I think the colors of rose and white will look great with the green-rust color of the Magnolia. I can't wait till they bloom! I think the scent should mix well.

I looked at the Seedhunt site and it looks like a really cool selection of not so common seeds.
Heavinscent, you're driving me nutz!
I went to Plants of the Southwest, Fragrant Path Seeds & Seedhunt now I'm really wacko!
But my budget won't allow me to purchase more seeds at this time.

Caren,
I would love to try these. My trade list is sadly out of date, or do you prefer postage? Please let me know
Janis
Woofens, Do you have anything that smell nice to trade?
Check your dmail.... I sent ya 2
Janis
Robin, check you dmail - you are looking a gift horse in the chops, here.
Blue sent you an email. GOt mine. THANKS!!!!!
Imzadi, you're welcome. New roof? -- did the wisteria do it?? just kidding.
Caren, I love that combination of Magnolia 'Little Gem' with the 4 O'Clocks - nice contrast in textures and shading, too - wouldn't have thought of it. Would next fall would be too soon to hope for seeds from that tree? That would be a wonderful one to include in next fall/winter's Fragrant RR. If Little Gem is a hybrid, then I suppose some monster-sized magnolias could result, but still worth it to me.
It is a 3 gallon size but very bushy. It is new to me this year a most everything in my yard. A Rita remodel you know. I don't know when they start throwing seed but I'll keep you in mind if I see any!
No the wisteria didnt do it. maybe i would of been covered by insurance if it did?? no really old age . the house had been neglected for three years before we bought it.
i had to buy a riding lawnmower just to cut the grass it was so bad. after two years now the only thing i am fighting in the yard is wild blackberry vines in mt main flower bed.
Boy, did we have a fight on our hands 31 years ago keeping this hovel standing. We were "do it yourselfers" without a clue. I know how you feel about fixing up the kitchen after a hiatus - congrats on your success. With retirement, we're falling behind in the maintenance department, soon we'll resemble that stereotype of the British colonials dining in their tuxedos in the a wild and woolly jungle (yes, gardeners can create a jungle in quite northern latitudes, too)
Karen, could I temp you with a handpainted something for a couple of seeds? Just found this thread and am really sorry to have missed out!
Melanie
I still have some Im sure we can work out a trade. I much rather trade for plants / seeds of some kind though. I dont have time now but I will Dmail later tonight!
Caren
Caren if you don't have any left, I still have some left to.
:) Donna
Caren and Donna, I have 15 seeds left of Mirabilis longiflora - how many do you have? Meag's handpainted seed packets look as if the flowers are made of seashells. The black background seems to absorb light, which sets of the light-reflecting qualities of the sea-shell effect of the flower petals. Her artwork has an elegance I will never achieve with my glued on bunny ears in the coming Easter Swap that Sheran is doing.
If you two have more seeds of M. long. left than I do, perhaps I could send some other seeds your way for Meag, since she's low on seeds in general?
Caren, I noticed you have Clethra alnifolia on your want list. Could you remind me in late May to send you cuttings and again in August to send you fresh seed of that plant?
Donna, I have 1 trade left of the Brazilian Black and Blue sage. It makes tubers that can be stored in peat over winter like dahlias. Also, it can be wintered under grow lights. It blooms late, so I'm guessing it would most likely bloom best the second year after you sow the seed in your latitude.
How 'bout, if one of you has more M. long than I do and will share them with Meag, I'll just share the clethra and sage with all three of you? (I apologize, but to anyone reading this, I won't have more of this sage beyond this trade)
If not, Meag, we'll split what I have.
Hope I haven't confusticated things, here. Let me know what ya'll would like to do.
karen
Karen, I have 16 extra seeds so I can send Meag 1 pack of 8 seeds. I would luv the Brazilian Black and Blue Sage since it makes tubers. Meag is your address listed on Daves?
:) Donna
Karen, As I was telling Meag. The place I ordered from sent the seed I ordered then a few days later sent me another order so I ended up with 80 seeds. More that I could ever plant! She can have as many as she wants as it seems no one else is intrested. That was the reason I closed the thread. I would love the Clethra alnifolia!! Perhaps we can all get something we want?! Im Game
Caren
Wow, Caren! That's alot of seeds...lol. I see the Clethra alnifolia is good for Zone 3. I'll just have to find something else to trade with Karen...lol.
:) Donna
Soooo, lemmesee -
earth to Bluespiral: no more confusing posts
Bluespiral to Heavinscent: clethra alnifolia as cuttings in late May/Early June and as seed later in summer/fall when ripe
Bluespiral to PerennialGirl: Ditto above to Heavinscent
Heavinscent to Meag848: Mirabilis longiflora seed
Donna, Caren and Meag to Karen: de-confusticate if needed
Ok girlfriend, now that you have me rolling on the floor so early in the morning, please explain what I need to do!!!
Seriously thanks so much on the compliments on my little seed packets. Easter ones won't be black but in Easter colors, blue, mint green, pale yellows, pinks. Completely different look.
I like the idea of a fragrant rr or swap. I want things to smell as beautiful as they look. So if you decide to do one please count me in!!
Melanie
Melanie, will do - have saved this link to a place I can't misplace by this coming fall for who to muster if either I or someone I encourage do the robin.
Well, the day is young - so little time and so much still to confusticate -
karen
Ok, Karen so I am sending Melanie Mirabilis longiflora so you get a handpainted something so I get a cutting or seed of clethra alnifolia as well as PerennialGirl? Am I getting my mind around this right?

Caren
Caren, that sounds about right to me - many thank yous :-)
Donna, sometimes I get a glimmer of what God was up to when he handed out just a teensy few extra brain cells to us. Are you talking to Karen with a K (moi) and not to Caren with a C? If I'm right, then we have a wonderful example of the Law of Compensation - the ability to figure out what one has muddled! This reminds me of one of my very first trades when I confused two Julies...
Anyhoo, if you find yourself with some extra plants or seeds, etc., a nice thing to do with it is: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/542483/ Some DG gardeners are starting to make their gardens all over again after losing so much after Hurricane Katrina. I think this forum extends to Hurricane Rita, too.
Gee, Caren, just when I think there's light at the end of the tunnel - ROFL! Talk about posts crossing in the ether - do we take the cake or what??? Will return later when I can stop laughing -
karen (with a K)
Now I know why there are screen names!!!
Caren (with a C) LOL! :op ~
Oh my goodness! LOL
Yep! *One* of the two "Julie's" here...you guys are having a blast. Fun reading (when I can understand what's going on.)
