Yes Moretz, it is a 4 O'clock. Im looking for a specific kind. Its white with pink stamens and very fragrant. I already have the tricolors thank you tho!
Caren
If no one has them, ansonfan just posted in the Annuals forum (I think) www.hardyplants.com has these seeds 8 for $2.65. I was wanting them too:)
Hope that helps.
I caught that after I posted this. Thanks dmac!
I would prefer to trade for them but, I'll buy them if I can't find someone.
Heavinscent

moretz
Caren, am sending you dmail in a minute or two.
Karen
Caren, now you are in trouble...lol. I had been looking for this one to. J L Hudson was selling the seeds but they are all out of stock...shucks! Karen do you know of a place to buy them?
:) Donna
She said the fragrant path had them.
Caren are you going to be ordering the seeds from them?
Hi Donna, I ordered Mirabilis longiflora seed this morning from The Fragrant Path by snail mail and won't know until I receive the order by snail mail whether they had any to send. As of this morning, their website ( http://www.fragrantpathseeds.com/ ) does not say that they are out of stock of this flower seed.
Sooo, it occurred to me that Caren and I could maximize our "pouncing powers" by each of us ordering 2 packets from 2 different sources.
So far, the cost of seed and postage for this flower elsewhere that Caren has looked at have been much higher than that of The Fragrant Path ($2 / 10 seeds and all orders postage is just $1). She is still looking and I have told her if she can't find another source that I will split seed from The Fragrant Path if they send it to me.
Would you like to join with us and see if you can find another source and order 3 packs, for which Caren would reimburse you for 1 and I would reimburse you for a third?
We sure could use some assistance in chasing down this flower - either through participating in my scheme or coming up with any other ideas.
Thanks for posting - am going to check out your dmail now
Would you consider adding me in? I can send postage or paypal, anyway?
I just planted the last 2 seeds I had. Hopefully they will produce some seeds later in the summer.
Jan...
Well I hit the jack pot! When doing a Google search I found it listed as Angels trumpets so I started a new search with Angels trumpets Mirabilis longiflora to try to weed out the Brugs and WOW! Im going to order from Plants of the Southwest. They had a 93% in GW and 20 seeds for 2.50 Ill let ya'll know how it goes.
Caren
I hope I'm not creating a confusing mess with this idea.
How about each person who wants to join in searching for this seed buying 2 packets from a source the rest of us haven't bought from. That way, we can pool our efforts after all our orders are either filled or not filled. Recipients of seed will reimburse whatever the fraction of seed they take from the pool cost.
So far, the "rest of us" is just me. With a possible 20 seeds to share between 6 people. And I don't know whether my seed source will actually produce those seeds in 3 weeks by snail mail. Sooo, how about anyone who wants to share seeds with me try to buy some too, and perhaps amongst us all - as a group - we'll wind up with more than 2 or 3 seeds per person.
Anyone who wants to participate or has a better idea would be very appreciated. If we should wind up with oodles of seed, think what a powerful trade those seedlings might be later on this summer :-) But we're in the land of "If", which is why I'm taking this approach of "maximizing" our "pouncing powers".
Sounds like a major woohoo to me, Caren - our posts just crossed in the ether.
Im in! I'll try to find some more seeds today.
I'm afraid more ideas have occurred to me since this thread started. Yes, I am also going to order some M. longiflora seed from Caren's Plants of the Southwest site.
And no more seeds this year, unless anyone likes my idea described below.
I have just noticed how very many of these desert plants were grown in the eastern seaboard gardens (New York; Connecticut; Philadelphia, PA; Maryland) of Louise Beebe Wilder (The Fragrant Path - still available as paperback reprint - extremely useful) and Helen van Pelt Wilson (The Fragrant Year - a crime that this one is not available any more). Since they gardened in conditions like my garden - hot, humid summers and clay-ey soil that many desert plants don't like, this is a wonderful discovery.
And an expensive discovery. What if we all grew at least one fragrant plant that the others were not growing this summer for seed swapping (or another fragrant flower robin) next fall/winter? I am putting together a list of plants that occur in both Plants of the Southwest's seed list and Beebe and Wilder's books. Will post it later.
Would we call this the "Beating the Bushes for Fragrant Flowers Robin"?
LOL!, I love it.
Like you had to wonder if I was in.
Caren
OK I have looked everywhere I can look and the only place that I can find them is the Fragrant Path but they don't have online ordering. I'm amazed that a seed that is native to Texas and smells so great is this hard to come by. We need to check with our Texas friends to see if anyone has any.
ansonfan,
They have them at Plants of the Southwest for a good price.
Plants of the Southwest is a new one for me. Sorry it took so long to respond, but I wasn't watching close enough. I think the 'grow a fragrant plant' idea is a really good one too. But since we are thinking about this, let's PLEASE set a code for these plants so that everyone can know if:
A. They smell really good when you put them to your nose.
B. They are fragrant enought to catch your attention in the garden.
C..They are so fragrant you can barely smell anything else in the garden.
You get the idea lol.
There is just too much distance in the scale to not be aware of it. Anyone else agree?
Ok gang, I ordered my M. longiflora and will let you know when it gets here.
I ordered from Specialty Perennials so I'll let you all know to.
:) Donna
Eek! Somebody closed this thread! I ordered from both Fragrant Path and Plants of the Southwest. Now, who doesn't have any? I can spare a few - if I get too many requests, dmail me in the fall when I've hopefully harvested some seed.
Y'all save a bunch, perhaps we can base another Fragrant RR on various seed of fragrant plants we "multiply" over the summer. And dmail me if you're interested.
You have Dmail Blue.
I guess this will be less confusing. I just keep it opend till we all get our seeds and decide what we are going to do with them.
Caren
Hello everyone - I apologize for taking so long to get back. All my Mirabilis longiflora seed are in now. As of now, I have 25 seed to share. How's everyone else doing? For those who have already been in this thread and looking, is anyone still looking for this seed? Has anyone besides myself received their seed?
I guess we won't know until we flower these seeds whether we have M. longiflora, or not. With The Fragrant Path and Plants of the Southwest, I think it's a good chance these plants will be true.
Perhaps with regard to M. longiflora The Fragrant Path was a little more expensive than Plants of the Southwest, but they gave me a bonus with which I'm quite thrilled, and most of their other prices seem less expensive than Plants of the Southwest. But I really appreciate the philosophies and principles of conservation that both companies seem to exemplify.
I do not feel up to starting a RR right now. But it would be nice to keep the idea open. Does anyone have any suggestions for other fragrant plants we could be scrounging for right now and saving seed of for next fall/winter's trading?
I have not recieved my order yet but I will also have about 25 seeds to share
when they come in. If anyone is still in need JLMK.
http://www.seedhunt.com/
this site has them $3 for 30 seeds, + $2 shipping/handling
oh i wish i had seen this thread. been wanting some of these for awhile now.
well i will keep the web site marked as i cant afford any right now. the roofers just got done putting my new kitchen roof on today.YEA!!!! was leaking in four different spots. so outa money right now.
but thanks for the web site. southwest plants looks like i could spend hours on their site. hehe
Does anyone have some of these seeds left over to SHARE?
I'll trade you even for some of these that Saya sent to me: Turkestan Onion (Allium karataviense) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/38271/index.html
~* Robin
Robin, I haven't gotten my seeds yet but I can save you some. I do have the Allium already in my garden.
:) Donna
Hi Donna,
Really, you can still from Canada? Ok; I'm in the address exchange. The post office changed my address a little, so recheck it please.
Do you still have any of those 'Vermont Cranberry Beans'? I would like some if so.
I have some Coral Bells 'Palace Purple' too.
~* Robin
I have some on the way, but the order was also snail mail, and it just cleared my account yesterday, so should be here pretty soon. I will be glad to share as much as I can. I may have to reduce the number of seeds to get everyone, but if we all pitch in, we should be ok. Waiting.............waiting.............
George,
You have a few seeds of Hyssopus officinalis coming attcha. I had already addressed, sealed and stamped the envelope to go out to you tomorrow. Someone split their pack with me and I'm splitting that with you 'cause I now you really wanted it.
~* Robin
Bless you Robin, you are a real Jewel. That was a biggy on my list. You would think that the seeds I have are rare coins the way I just sit and go through them. I think I've reached the point of no return lol.
It looks like everyone who posted here has got some seed of M. longiflora either received by now or in the mail - except Imzadi.
Imzadi, would you like for me to send you 10 seeds?
If I don't hear from you by 3:00, it'll be a few days before I can post again on DG, but I'll get back to you then.
Robin, seeds are not a problem from Canada. I think I also have some more Vermont Cranberry seeds to. I don't need any of the Coral Bells 'Palace Purple', but do you have anything else?
:) Donna
Am sending Imzadi 10 seeds. My situation is a little crazy right now - am keeping PerennialGirl apprised. Heavinscent, am so glad you started this thread.
