Yup that is it Laurie :)
Pretty cool huh?
Woohooo I like the way you to gals think :) I am MOST definitely in on this dream!
Where's Bob
I just took that photo on Sunday at the Conservatory golden gate park!
They also have them at fairchild :) They are growing them outside at a local park there? Wow! Surprising they are living!
I love San Francisco..... my Aunt used to live on Presidio Avenue - just outside the Presidio. The last time I was there, we stayed at the Westin St Francis. I jammed every day trip I could - down the coast to Carmel and Monterey[heaven], east into the Napa valley [hic], and of Sausalito and Muir Woods
the dream is now including past visits to Northern California
Hey Anita, I live in the Napa Valley! And aside from all this rain we're having it's what some call 'God's Country' - it really is beautiful.
And though I'm sick of all the rain, and feel like I live in Seattle now, we do need it. Because come May, we don't get any more until October! that's a good long dry spell. So the lakes, resevoirs and underground water supplies need to be refilled.
But c'mon howzabout a day of sunshine now and again.
Good thing about the SFO bay area is how close everything is. Skiing is 3 hrs away, the beach is 1 hr. away, San Fran is 1.5 hrs away. The lakes are all within 1 hour. Museums, plays, gardens all within a few hours.
you're welcome to come visit if you're in my neck of the woods! (open to all)
How close are you to San Jose, begonia? We have close friends out there -- and a 4 year old "nephew!" -- so we're hoping to get out there again either this summer or next spring. It is a gorgeous area! And, if memory serves, you'll be getting ripe red strawberries in the stores pretty soon... lucky duck!
San Jose is about 2 1/2 to 2 hrs 45 min from here. We don't go there often. Already have the strawberries! My strawberries are blooming right now.
Yum! Dipped in chocolate and whipped cream.... (there goes my diet!0
Well, the next time we head out that way, we'll just have to take a drive into Napa Valley! :-)
sounds good to me - wouldn't mind a visit to Mondavi again (grin)
Note to self for spring perennials: Stawberries.
hmmm..note to self - go to Kenton's with whipped cream and chocolate...
wait...that might be taken wrong....
Sounds like the Tijuana Brass Record!
I am so generationally displaced.
For the record, there is a parcel in the GJ office with your name on it, Anita.
Kenton -who will take the whipped-cream can to the nureries...
I'll say - I think you are younger than me - I had to look that up!!
But have you heard "Whipped Cream and other delights?" or better, have you seen the cover of the vinyl?
yes- I saw the cover - hysterical! I was going to post it, but then I thought I might get in trouble with Terry or Dave!
You know what's sad - my nieces will never understand the following terms.
8-track
typewriter
record
45
cassette
actually - I can't post the pic..but here's a link http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000002GA9.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
How about 'ice box'
oh yes--I only know that one because that's what my grandmother [Oma] called it. She even made 'ice box' cookies!
Kenton you absolutely crack me up. You definitely are generationally displaced
I love it!
ICE BOX- Is that a violet?

better yet,
regular or unleaded, maam!
what? Ice box cookies? No - but maybe it should be!
I remember, at least, the good ol' days without cellular phones. Ugrk!
oh, Yes!!!
actually - I'm in my car by myself alot- so I kinda feel safe having a cell phone. I can't give you that one Kenton
I relive it every day...
Looks like it's chat night here... Gossip time...
you got gossip - wait let me get my picket fence!
Yes, (psssspsssspssspssssst) What do you think of that? Now don't tell anyone...
ok..hush's the word....
Anita, I'm glad I'd just swallowed my cocoa, or I'd have sprayed it all over my keyboard! ROTFL!
"Aber bitte, mit Sanna!"
("But please, with whipped cream!")
That was actually a pop hit in Germany.... oh my gosh, has it really been almost 20 years.... I came across it while taking German classes in college! (Oh, no, now I'm humming it... no more chocolate for me tonight!)
I've planted little alpine type strawberries all along our new side pathway, and I'm looking forward to enjoying them there this summer.... they're nice in containers too... tidy little plants that produce the best little garden snacks... You'll never pick enough of the 1/2 inch berries for pie, but the intense strawberry-candy flavor is just amazing! They're pretty easy to grow from seed, too.
Oh good grief, we've gone from palms to strawberries and then some.... I'm not sure this thread will ever get back around to gessies! Oh wait, the thread started out being about Bob....
Hey, Bob, do you like strawberries??? There. We are back on topic.... sort of. Maybe I should go to sleep now.
maybe we should ask if he likes Whipped cream! - there I go again!!!! jeesh!
he he..yes love strawberries..have them growing..and the little alpines are nice...but not very big...and i indeed played Herb Alpert on one of my first radio shows..lol...course..he teamed up with Dionne Warwick (who had the best posture of anyone i have ever seen in my life)..course that might be because..she.."walk on by"...guess that's when she found "way to San Jose"....and of course L.A'S one big freeway..put a dollar down and buy a car...and in a week or two..you'll be a star"....than of course.."i'll say a little prayer for You"..."Alfie".....omg..................(you guys do recall was in radio and tv in L.A. for 28years..so you're opening a can of worms...you better close it quickly...he he )..roflmbbo
oh reeaallly---well I've my can opener...what did you do in radio and TV?
anita...just about everything...on air...and managed radio station in Mo..before moving here to Fl to care for my parents 14 years ago
I'm sure you got to meet some celebrities - did you have a favorite(s)?
anita well later when i managed the West Coasts western union offices i met many more celebrites...especially in Beverly HIlls....one of my very favorites was Woody Hermann's wife...Woody was one of the great jazz musicians of all time..The most tragic case was when Peter Lawford would come in...he had stomach cancer at that point, was unrecogtnizable as the handsome man he was.... and he had been deserted by the "rat pack"..Kennedy's etc....he would receive $200.00 a week from someone in Palm Springs Ca...I suspect it was Frank Sinatra that sent it...when he died he had no one and no money to bury him...we put up colelction jars etc..for his funeral...none of the famous would help...there was a young lady that "chauffered " hm around..she wrote a book and finally "shamed" his rich "friends" into sending money for his burial...Recently his son has written a biography of himself and not his father...I wish i had a chance to talk to him as he was a drug addict at the time and not around for his father...As i look back now, I wish i had not been so "professional" and talked with Peter about Marilyn Monroe and that controversy of her death....she was "allegedly" on the phone with Peter when she died..
.all of this may be part of the reason that Peter was "disowned" by everyone...I will never forget the "broken" Peter Lawford...and Rita Hayworth looking like a rag lady coming into receive moeny.....this is way off the topic of AV's..so won't say more..
Whoa- Gossip of the highest kind. Who is the picture, Bob?
kenton..that's me when i was on L.A. radio and tv.....70's and 80's....a bit before you...roflmbbo
