I love Strawberry Festival. Like I have said before, I am a sucker for varigated foliage and few plants have such stunning varigation as the AVs- that's what suckered me in!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I agree with everyone! They are lovely!
My favorite are also the variegated and the girl foliage varieties.
So I am a sucker for strawberry too!
My favorite of all of mine is probably the snuggles and the baby moonbeam (which Allison was kind enough to give me)
They have the prettiest pink variegation!

Lorry do you have Little Clown? I put a leaf down on the 23rd and it's already rooted with a little plantlet forming. So I can see that I'm going to have plenty.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I have a leaf of little clown that was sent to me as a gift..but don't have a plant and so far no plantlets from it...so if you have extra Laurie..would LOVE one :)

Also..my Jalapeno seems to be sprouting more babies! The leaf that is! So hopefully I will have a few of those to share with others!

and fisherman's paradise is waiting patiently for your arrival Laurie! He wants to go HOME :)

Babies are so exciting !

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Laurie - do you root in just perlite too? That was a pretty quick sprout..1/23 to 2/10..or did you put them down 12/23?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

yes fast ! Did you use Vf-11 this makes roots and babies fast !

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

No, I put it down on 1/23. It was one I just got on eBay. And I couldn't believe how fast it rooted. I potted up about 50 leaves yesterday and today. All with roots. Some I started on jan.2, some jan 11 and others on the 23rd.

One had only one little root and about 6 babies already growing. When i water, everytime, I use warm water and VF-11 (another plug!)
so far so good. BUT I see the roots start to decline if I leave them too long in the perlite. After a while I think they want to be in something a little more substantial.

I get roots fast this way. and it keeps me from overwatering,

Ever see that t-shirt that says ' Runs with Scissors' (that's me) only mine should say 'Overwaters Plants to death!'
my poor plants don't know what to do with me. The perlite has probably saved my collection!

I buy the big industrial sized bag for $15 (It's BIG)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I buy that bag too Laurie cost about $10.00 here but today it was no where to be fount. Hubby finaly got me the last four bags at Ace Hardware !
Eleanor's VF-11 helps healthy roots and babies grow fast. Super for Streps leaves too !

Great pictures April. I like to see plants in their natural setting and particularly near loved ones. Linda

Glad you like them. What do you grow in 6a- I am glad for what I can grow but envious of what others can!

Take a look at my Journal. I started outside about 5 years ago and slowly have worked myself into the House this past year with AV's. A big thanks to Allison for being so gracious. I wonder if there is an AV called 'Gracious Allison' :O))

Oh Linda your so sweet. Now I owe six boxes to be shipped and more people sending moeny. I am hoping when Laurie gets here she can help get me caught up with packing though I know she has a lot of plants of her own she'll be buying at the Begonia convention and Nursery. But anyone can do things faster than me. So many babies to trans plant and water , everytime I turn around someone is hungery. I am trying to get one shelf empty for plants I like to keep ! Then Laurie sent me tons of leaves and Lorry has tons more coming maybe today . I'm not complaining I enjoy growing the babies and sharing them.
I can't beleive how fast Kenton's little babies have grown . ! It's fun to see plants I sent out grow up.
I love looking at everyones pictures !
Thanks for sharing your beautiful plants and family April ! Hope to see more soon.

April,

I love the first one that you posted. So far I do not have any with lots of other colors on the leaves. I think an AV wtih pink on the leaves is beautiful. You have so many other beauties too.

Yes that's Strawberry Festival- honestly I don't know what the flower looks like, don't even know the color. For all I know it doesn't even flower (LOL, I am sure it does), I am a sucker for varigation, just cannot control myself. I cannot take credit for anything but the photos, I bought the plants and I am amazed at them myself. I have 2 new from ebay auctions, but haven't taken photos of them. Will post soon.

Yes, the leaves themself are beautiful. Flowers would just be an added attraction. I can't wait until we get some money. I am going to have to break down and order one like yours. It is just so pretty.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

JesseK- I have another that is quite simillar anyway I will be happy to put a leaves down for you- mind you, almost all of my leaves root, but so far nothing more. You may end up w / a single rooted leaf so I will make it a beautiful leaf. LOL.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh April your so sweet. You'll have babies soon it just takes a lot of time and seems like more than a lot sometimes. I start feeding 1/4 strenght as soon as roots. Give them as much non buring light as you can. Mine almost touch the lights. and keep warm ,air circulation will help to speed babies along !
I have Grandma Rose she has the deep pink foliage I love pink in foliage. Some of Buckeye I have , Baby Moonbeam does even though FC says she does not.
Namley Nancy puts on a good pink show. Never cane have too much pink foliage !

Allison that one is gorgeous! I agree can't have too much pink! Although my DH would probably not agree. LOL.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

April,

Thank you so much for doing this for me. I just love the ones with the varigated leaves and so far all of mine are just green. I really do appreciate that. Since my DH has not been paid yet I will send money to the couple of people that I owe when I get my SSI check on the 1st. I will feel so much better then because I do not like owing people that send me things. So on the first I'm sending out payment to the two people that I owe. And please let me know what I will owe you for postage as well.

You know, at first, when I started at DG, I thought the idea of sharing things was really sort of weird. I thought, why don't people just go buy the plants themselves since they are not that expensive. But now that I have so many of you kind, wonderful people sending me things and helping me make my own babies, my attitude has totally changed. Anyone can go buy a plant but not just anyone can grow babies from a leaf or from a seed. So now I see how important it is for everyone to share like you all do. I can't wait until I get enough stuff to share with others. I love giving to people and that will make me feel so good to be able to share with all of you. This is so much more exciting than I ever thought it would be. Thanks everyone for making gardening so much more exciting that I ever imagined it would be.

Yes these AV folks are really amazing- I never met as many people so willing to give to others. They do rub off on you after awhile and pretty soon you find yourself offering free stuff to complete strangers. Take me for instance, since hanging out w/ these folks I sent some ginger & justicia to Mississippi (?) my way of helping hurricane victims, her yard was wiped out, also sent some ginger to a lady in Lake Charles LA, she wanted gingers and could only find it for trade and had nothing to trade, and of course I cannot count the number of times I have offered to give my husband to any one in need. LOL!
In all honesty these guys are very giving in many ways and hanging out w/ them is a treat!
