Leycesteria cutting propagation

I'm needing to propagate Leycesteria but the last time I did it I didn't get much success. The stems between nodes was so long I had a flat of 6"-12" sticks once done. Should I only be doing tip cuttings? Anyone have experience on this one? Thanks
