When : February 20
On this winter day, people go out at noon, wave their hands over their heads and chant "Hoodie-Hoo".
It is a day to chase away winter and bring in spring. After all, everyone in the northern hemisphere are sick and tired of winter at this point and a little crazy being cooped up inside all winter and not seeing the sun.
LETS ALL YELL~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hoodie-Hoo" day is coming again
I'm practicing already...
Hoodie- Hoo
Uh oh I might be Martha

Yeah Yay! Here is so beautiful day sunny and warm today also yesterday too so weird no cold it should be this winter season on this month what happen to it this year eh? Really strange! Well that good anyway. =~D
Do I warn my neighbors first, don't want them to call the guys in the white coats?
well thats up to you! a vacation and a new white jacket may be nice LOL
Chuckle. Everytime you post this, I think of Gomer Pyle's "hootie hoot" owl call. (I know, I'm showing my age again!)
But alas, it's not even close to Jim Nabors' birthday ;o)
Motnartha,
I don't ackshully need to go out and do the hokey-pokey because the winter here in Metamora, Illinois has been quite mild, over-all. Also, I have been having a great time feeding the birds and snuggling with my wife! :+)) So I am not too concerned at all for the winter to "finally" be over with.
And one other thing:
No matter how bad ANY winter gets, it's STILL a sight better than a NUCLEAR WINTER!
Also:
No matter how bad things get, they can always get worse.
So I always find something to be thankful for! :+))
Call me "Pollyana!" I don't keer! LOL!
Gomer Pyle and Don Knotts - a double birthday! Whoopie! :+))
I got some old Andy Griffith show videos out of the library t'other day. They wuz fun fer a whilst, but after a time, I couldn't hardly stand ta lissen ta Don Knotts's sharp, whiny voice no more! REALLY was grating on me! LOL! Had to turn it off and give my ears a break!

MG, I'm jealous! When I asked my kids if they would go out and yell with me, they both said, "Noooooo waaaaaaay!!" :-(
ROFL, if you look closely at Nathan's raised right hand, you will see the true motivation for his enthusiasm. A free-for-all soon erupted!
;~)
mg
LOL, mg! Looks like they had a great time!
As my oldest son, Jordan, was walking away from me after I asked him about it, my DH said, "I bet they would do it if we paid them." Jordan promptly came back and said, "I'll do it if you give me $20!!" I just laughed at him!
I'm a couple of hours late will it still work?? Notivced the sun came out about noon.
Sidney
Traditionally it is done at high noon where you are, but I'd say go ahead and do it anyway. It's noon somewhere, lol.
mg
Well...I missed it ...here...I wonder where Noon is when it is 2 PM here...in the Pacific Ocean??...OK....in about 15 minutes you will hear a Hoodie-hoo that they will hear up in the mountains!! Watch all the Coyotes and Javalinas come running...LOL
HOOODIE HOO....Jo

Martha...did you hear me yell? LOL Jo
I thought that was thundersnow again JO! lol
i yelled as loud as i could-a few times, surprized no one came to see if i was ok
Funny/Cute thread. Didn't find it until after dark thirth so I guess I missed adding my Hootie-Hoo!
I guess I was hollerin' so loud I drowned ya'll out! (And then, I lost my breath from all that exercise, fell down on the compost heap, woke up with worms crawling around my ears and I declare!...I coulda sworn they was hollering/whispering "hooty hoooo"!)
Poor Shoe!! LOL
It's a good thing we have so many time zones...just think what would happen if everyone was Hoodie Hooing at the same time....WOW!
Jo
Jo when it was 2 PM there it was 12 Noon here in Texas. So you were right on time. We don't yell Hoodie Hoo here, and I am glad, Just about the time I did I would have fell into the compost pile with fresh manure on top.
Sorry Shoe, I am sure the worms are crying out for spring. Just hope our spring doesn't jump right into summer. We have been known to do that here. Just less than a month of spring, then it is summer. That is when we go out and scream BAH HUM BUG!!!
I thought Arizona and Texas were only an hour apart...until DST kicks in...then we are 2 hours...my son lives in TN...and we are 1 hr apart until DST. Oh Well...we had a hoodie hoo good time! Jo
Oh my, I was thinking Calif. Yes you are only an hour. So I guess it would be 12 noon eastern standard time when you are 2 PM.
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^
im so glad everyone had fun with this
and shoe-go take a shower PU!
I posted this in "coffee and..." yesterday but wanted ya'll to know I tried!
Alright folks!! I need some TLC here! I went out at noon to do the Hoodie Hoo holler and dance - thought I was going to drown - so I headed back into the house. Three cats, two dogs and one DH told me I was going to flood the house if I came inside. There I stood, dripping water and ice - yes ice - freezing after nearly drowning, wanting a cup of something, anything, hot, to warm me up and all I got was a small towel to stem the river I had running off of me. I need SPRING and SUN!!!!
Hours later I am warm and dry and fed, and in a much better mood ( still need some sunshine) and plotting my revenge on the mob that held me at bay. I'll think up something good for them. Remember, revenge is sweetest when its cold!
ginni
That lets me out on the revenge...70 here today and I have the windows open....*snicker*. Jo
Hey, hey, hey! We're having our own little heat wave here - a whole whopping 47.7 - and falling! Actually, I really shouldn't complain since we have had several very mild winters in a row. We were due for a little colder season. I find it a lot easier to deal with these lower temps than I did with Miss Kate and little Rita last fall! My big concern now is about ice. Thats why I was out in the ice and rain hoodie hooing for spring. I hate ice storms!
I will however, put this cold weather to use chilling my revenge ideas! I can get DH with no problem, the dogs shouldn't be too hard, but! how do you get revenge on a cat? They are so oblivious of the lowly human life form will they even notice? Actually, the hoodie hooes for spring were as much to get three cats outside and out of my hair for awhile as anything else.
I lived in Phoenix for awhile and I remember being out on Canyon Lake in a small boat wearing tee shirt and shorts on Jan 1st.
Anyway, something must be working, 'cause it is warmer today! But still no sun!
I really think I heard a few echos of my hoodies but I feel we should practice before next year to get it all harmonized.
ginni
Terry, I go from there to Gomer yelling ''citizens arrest citizens arrest.'' Cracks me up everytime!
Persevere, we play the glad game. (Pollyanna)
