Woo hoo....
Hector has ears!
I him from http://stores.ebay.com/PJs-PLANTS-AND-THINGS . I have to take a shot of how he is now. No blooms yet, but this is the pic from the grower.
anita congrats...looking great...beautiful plant...can't wait to see the blooms...
Woohoo..congrats hun!
Yippeeee! aaaaaannd she's off!!
That is a gorgeous plant -- love the variegation!! Even the leaf in its pot is very pretty.... even cuter now with ears, LOL!
I'm just happy that my technique works!
WOW that is gorgeous! Someday my leaves will have ears, if I have to glue them on them!
Would anyone be interested in Hector if I were to put some more leaves down?
Very nice growing ! What kind of potting mix are you use and conatiner. Do you cover or not. Do you fertilize or not ? Light? Is it kept warm ? And how long sense you put the leaf down ? I like know other people's methods ! I cut my stems real short 1/2 inch or shorter. I put my leaves right down until they touch the soil like your's. I get many babies from each leaf :))
Thanks, Allison
hmmm
1. potting mix = miracle grow amended with perlite and horticultural charcoal.
2. container = recycled nursery container with drainage holes [ I am also using clear plastic drinking cups on some other leaves to see if they work as well ]
3. Soil is saturated and then drained before leaf is put in. I dipped the leaf in hormone prior to insertion and put on a propagation tray with a humidity dome. No additional watering was necessary.
4. I do not fertilize as MG already contains it
5. Lights = AgroSun® Full Spectrum Fluorescent Bulb
6. Heat mat set to 75 degrees
7. Leaf took approximately 1 month to germinate
Hopefully this will be a winning recipe all the time!
Anita
Good JOb ! I don't cover as it's too humid here.
Your lights, heat and humidity is sure paying off for you :))
I like MG too when I use it though I use one part MG and three parts Perilite I like light light soil-less mixture :))
Mine take about 4 weeks for babies too. Sometimes more sometimes less but I'd say an average. Mine are close to lights and kept warm.
Not sure if you do but new or used pots good idea to soak in strong bleach and hot water before using and never re-use if pots are not soaked in clean bleach and hot water again. Keep the pest away . Pest can go dormant and puff there there.
Good LUck with the White Fly's.
I do put all my leaves down in 3 oz. solo cups and they are placed in plastic boxes and put under light. Keeps them neat and from spilling over. I had 35 6 quart boxes..but then hubby started getting me larger boxes that hold more cups each ! I use the lids for trays for my plants. Works great for me. I can bleach soak them. They last a long time I've had mine a couple years at least :))
Keep up the good growing :))
I bid on one of those on EBAY and did not get it. I have not gotten the last few plants I have bid on. May be a good thing. Got a box from Allison that was like EBAYx3. I would love to see a picture of your plant. It is beautiful in the example. : ) Hope it grows great for you !!
one month!! wow, whatever you're doing, stick with it!
I've had a few pop earlier, but my average, even with the new lights, is more like 6 to 8 weeks. I'm thinking they like that heat mat!
Oh Kenton has fast babies too ! Even girl leaf trailer baby ! He must be shy to post them , he Dmail me them he has green arms to match his green thumbs !!
WOW neat . Now you don't have problem with so much humidity ? and moisture > I grow all my minis I keep and others natural light and all my Epsicas and Chiritas , Streps are in Natural light. Other plants, leaves and babies are on plant stand. Nothing covered. Here is an old picture like at least a year ago of plant stands
u guys are way ahead of me....course i'm playing outside in my jungle as well..
Yeah, Bob, rub it in.... it's blustery today, and we woke to a light dusting of snow (which I have to admit was very pretty).... not good weather for outdoor gardening here!
What fun photos!
Anita, I think Allision probably has more humidity than we do. I've had good luck using plastic domes like that on my flats (where did you find that nice high one??), but I do poke little holes in the lid every couple of inches (I use a metal skewer heated on the stove). I think the holes provide just a little ventillation for heat and keep the humidity levels just about perfect for my cuttings & seedlings.
'Hector' is gorgeous! I think all the lovers of variegated foliage here (me included) are going to be falling all over themselves to respond when you put babies up for trade.... maybe you could put down another leaf... :-)
Absolutely Critter!! I got the propagation trays/domes here http://homeharvest.com/propagationflatsdomesinserts.htm . They have wonderful customer service as well!!!
Bob I was outside some today ! Had to take the dog out. I took pictures of the plants you sent doing well ! One has flowers :)) I also took pictures of our Poinsettias ! They were tiny last year but about 3 ft tall and round and red :)) We have another given to us were going to plant out too ! And I tried to get some pictures of some of our Bromaliads in bloom. Their hidden by Poinsettia and Colues SP ~ Hubby needs to move them . this weekend and build me a trallis for my Morning Glory seeds Joseph sent me ! Andd soon our 4 O'clocks will be coming back and I will plant some Moon Flower vine beans up the poles to climbe and hang out together and I like the plant the Purple Hycithist ( SP) their a vine and grows well with Moon Flower vine and gets purple flowers but I can't spell the name. But their all so pretty !
LOL..it has been LOVELY here critter...wanna move in? Only one condition..you MUST bring your AV collection :)
OMG, if my AV collection ever combined with yours, we sure would have to build an annex for them.... and can you imagine how quickly our collections would grow as we encouraged one another to order or to bid for AVs on eBay?
I'm glad you Floridians are enjoying the warm, sunny weather! My BIL's family is down in Orlando on vacation, so we can think of them basking also!
Now those are beautiful babies ! Nice growing Kenton :))
Way to go Kenton!!! ARen't you the proud Papa.
allison..glad the plants i sent doing well....hope the california marigold (cosmos) yellow and orange blooming for you..they are so cheerful....loved the pics you sent of the plants in your yard..love when the poinsettia grow into trees.
I do love growing poinsettias . We have on the other side of home and going to plant the one given to us this year out too ! They are easy care. I have never seen them wilt in hot sun . Just wonderful plants that put on a terrific show for Christmas and I enjoy mine year round :))
Sorry Anita for posting on your thread I just wanted to share some Florida Sunshine, Hope you don't mine.
Please...never feel the need to apologize - that goes for any of my friends here!!!
Thank you your so sweet.
Thanks. Allison, did you ever post a picture of that incomparable husband of yours? If you have done already, just tell me where; I know I'm not alone in wanting to "meet" your other half.
Kenton
hmmm...what a looker! I guess that's his baby behind him?
Yes ! My hubby rescued me out of the Nursing Home. After ending up in one ( It was a good one but no Nursing Homes are good) I never gave up on Fairtales. :))
Really? How wonderful. How did you meet him? How long have you been married?
I met him on the computer. We were married three years ago last September and lived together about a over a year before getting married. We should not have got married as I lost a lot of benifits I needed with my health. And he can only work part time as I need 24 hour care.
