Has anyone propagated this clematis from cuttings?
Do I need to wait for new growth or can I use last year's growth. Soil or water? Neither?
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks, ROX
Propagating clematis paniculata
This clematis reseeds abundantly where I live. I usually water the plant well and it usually grows so well that I have to eventually prune two or three times a year. If your mother plant is well established I presume you also have offspring in the vicinity of the plant. In the spring you need to look for little seedlings with the round clematis like leaves. I also checked "The Reference Manuel of Woody Plant Propagation" by co-authors Michael Dirr and Charles W. Heuser. They remarked how this particular clematis was grown from seed.
Thanks. I think I'll look for seedlings in the Spring. I also have seeds I might try to propagate.
