I have no clue if it is the heat!! I have on order 2 heating mats, so I will find out. LOL! I have never used heat though. I have mine on my growing rack under fluorescent lights. A friend sent me some of her special seeds so I wanted to try heat on them. I was thinking I would be babying them. LOL. Watch me rot them all.
I just helped deliver my first Brug Baby! BREECH
So glad your baby survived, Joyce. I'm sure it must have been the sign! I am getting ready to try my hand at Brug seeds again, so I'm glad to see the information on bottom heat. I would have placed mine on a heat mat, too.
Have fun!
LOL Kell. I sure hope not!
I took the brug seeds off the heat, and made a very weak bleach solution and spritzed the ones that looked "not so bad" and will hope for the best.
Thank you PlantFiend.. I do hope my first brug baby grows old with me.. I love the lil thing.
Lil BeeBee is getting big kid leaves.. of course you can't see them without a magnifying glass yet.. ROFL
this is a fun thread....
DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME: one of my special brugs had moldy roots sometime ago, and i made creme brulee that day. not sure what to do, but i think i mentioned to kell that i'm going to zap the mold with the kitchen torch. i did. whew. it's alive and healthy, but i won't do that again. killed the mold though.
and i gained 2-5 lbs. i blame it on messenger.
angela, give the seeds another go!
Yes and we discussed that is my favorite dessert. YUM YUM YUM. You and I have such similar food tastes, Annapet. We could live on crab and creme brulee with some pho on cold days!!!
I had Brug seeds , Datura's , 7 Crown and Santa Maria seeds in Jiffy pods [ soaked pods and seeds in distilled water w/ super trive ] with bottom heat - everything moldy [ a week later ] except 7 Crown and Santa Maria .
I dried out with top off and bottom heat - mold went away but may have cooked seeds .
2 more days and I'll toss the seeds if nothing happens [ watered pods without bottom heat ]
Kell suggested rockwool . Soak rockwool in warm water - no H202 or supertrive - drain a couple of minutes - no bottom heat .
I put 6 tomatoes 6 double purple Daturas , 6 double yellow Daturas 6 yellow Brugs -
Then I put in clear plastic bags and set under lights .
Yes.. Tony, Kell posted step by step instructions on another thread.. I followed them to the "T" but with bottom heat.. AND maby I just peeked in too many times. Thank you for posting that though.. interesting how just the heat would mold em up so fast!
Sure I don't mind Annapet! Those babiez are beautiful!! How old are they? Preeety green leaves.
I have some rockwool left, I'll try again without heat when I get more seeds. Brug poor at the moment. LOL
Well shoot, yours look better than mine. LOL
And Joyce, I would never open the bag. Each time you do you increase the chance for bad germs/mold to get in and do their dirty deed. It is warm and moist in there, a perfect environment for mold. In fact that may be the problem with the bottom heat. It provides just too good conditions for fungal spores to thrive so i fone wander sin, you ge tinto trouble. I also wash my hands well and use only new materials to do my seeds. I use a new bag, new or bleached container and keep my rockwool closed before use.
Well, I hope to get my heating mats soon from Park Seeds and so I will be trying them with some seed. Oh dear! LOL
thanks, ladies. i am a proud mama, too. they are a month old after i potted them up. these are the smaller ones. leaves on average are 4" x 2.5". they are in 2" x 2" rose bands.
So what cross are those babiez Annapet? They are so healthy and pretty. I sure hope mine get that big that fast!
those are a few of kell's BF x (EP x L'A)

you think there's a great chance i'll get PINK BLOOMS? lol.
Do ya' think? Oh, yeah! Can't wait to see.
hee-hee...
rained all day today. i potted up more brug seedlings. sanguineas and also more of kell's seedlings.
=)
Well, I think pink all the time... I don't mind a little peachy too. I hope you keep us posted on your babiez Annapet.
Yeah, this rain is a drag, no sunshine for the kids. I want sunshine, or I sit around with nothing to do and then more seeds get planted. LOL Or heaven forbid I shop more..
Looks like BeeBee is doing just great! You should be proud :-)
Sharon
beebee is a cutie-patootie. fuzzy leaves? cool! i second what sharon said.
you made me check up on my seedlings. lol. like i don't do that often enough.
=)
sunshine for a whole week!
Thank you Sharon, she makes me so happy. This is the most fun I've had in years.. a silly lil seedling can melt all my worries away.
That's cute Annapet! Thank you. I love this sunshine.. It is a spirit lifter for sure!
sunshine is EXTRA SPECIAL the whole week ahead - - - my last week of freedom. i start work feb. 13!
=)
Looks like the breech birth didn't faze her at all!!! Are you putting pink botties on her?
Really Annapet, sunshine all week? Maybe it will dry out my big mud puddle in the back yard. Poor you, work in a week.
can't wait for this baby to bloom =). i think by AUGUST.
i'm not sure i'm ready....my dave's subscription is up. i'm thinking get used to work first, then subscribe again. i will be so tempted to check on dave's, lol.
kell, please check out the b. sang, i think flava at the presidio. julius kahn park. you won't miss it. PINK! it may not be too special, but to me, it is. lol.
I bought a few Sang seeds a few weeks back and put them in rock wool. One came out in the middle of the rockwool like it's supposed to be, but I must have dropped one because another baby was coming out of the side of the rockwool.
Annapet, your leaving us????????? NOOOOOO You can't do that! I know if you have to concentrate on work.. but it won't be the same here without you. I hope you come back soon. :(
Just checking on BeeBee. I had a breech hyacinth bean the other day and had to "deliver" it. LOL
Sharon
joyce, who was i kidding? of course i renewed already.
anyhow, my subscription only expired 1 day. not that i was holding out, but i was out for a day in NAPA. monday was perfect for wine-tasting. no lines. lol. it was a very leisurely thing, and i was picky-picky where to taste....then later on, bought some lunch at dean & deluca, crossed the street to try some v. sattui wines, bought more bottles, and picnicked there.
i didn't see brugs while i was there. roses and daffodils.
how about a new photo of BeeBee? have a great weekend!
You're a very good brug Mommy. She looks wonderful !! Congrats and God bless, Margo
The hyacinth bean baby is now about six inches tall and doing well. LOL BeeBee is looking really good!
Sharon
Thank you Margo.. That is sweet.
Sharon, do post a picture.. I'd like to see your baby too.
Awww, and she's looking might good considering her struggle coming into the world.. thanks for the update
Another update on BeeBee... I'm tellin you, she is a "hard luck" plant! She is now 5'7" tall from the ground to her top growth. Last month when we had the terrible winds, she got a "broken arm" ( 1/2 of her Y broke off) and now her buds are JUST starting to fatten up beyond the "micro bud" stage that would just dry up and fall off. She suffered quite a bit of damage from tent catapillars, so her new growth is deformed. I'm serious.. If I have to babysit her the first couple of winter months, I am willing to share my electric blanket with her if I have to. LOL
I dug her sister up and moved her cause they were competing for space.. I did something wrong.. Her sister lost all her leaves and dried up to nothing.. now she has one tiny leaf at the base of her trunk.. but you know what? I WILL NEVER GIVE UP! HUMMMMM Maby it's not the horse, it's the rider! LOL
Gosh a'mighty, gal. Those are some l-a-r-g-e leaves!! You won't need to share your blankie.. just wrap a couple of those lower leaves around her and she'll be comfy. ;)
Barb
LOL Barb.
Are you leaving yours out this winter, Joyce? I leave most of mine out. I wonder why her twin went into such shock. They usually are so tough. If I see one going south, I just cut off the top and reroot it and hope the potted one will send up new shoots. You always have to be careful of not overwatering though when they are in shock and not drinking so much water. Esp. if they drop their leaves in protest, then they need very little water till they leaf out again.
LOL Barb.. I thought of taking a pic of me trying to fly with one in each hand.. LOL
Yes Kell, I'm leaving them out.. It's a jungle out here now.. I will have too. I saw last year you said you only have to throw a sheet on them during the real cold nights, right?
I think there was residual 2 in1 in the dirt where the twin was transferred.. there had to be, cause I can't think of any other reason.. I left a good sized rootball and didn't have any problems getting her out of the ground.. I dug up 2 others and they did fine.. In fact, one was right next to her and she is fine. Oh well, not like I'm gonna have a big empty space.. LOL
Now I wanna grow more seeds.. this is too exciting..
