I love the pot idea - will try that with the nieces... They like to paint - I like the decopage idea..maybe some crackle paint....hmmm

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Anita that will be fun ! Take pictures. I love the one Kenton made me :)) I will be taking lots of pictures :))

We bought a bunch of terra cotta pots at the nursery the other day, 4 inch and 1.5 inch. If we can ever have an evening free of obligations, we're going to paint them. We're really into the "family thing" so this will be a great activity for us. My husband and kids have a lot of artistic talent, while I, on the other hand, couldn't draw my way out of a wet paper bag. I'm still working on perfecting stick people! LOL I'm hoping what I manage to "create" will at least qualify for abstract art! ;o)

Super great ! I think The one Kenton made me is the
1.5 inch pot so perfect for little mini's :)) And 4 inch for standard. Oh I can close my eyes and see how pretty your plants will look in your familty painted pots. Maybe you'll have an extra or two for a trade :))

SNOW?!! Brrrr. I'm so enjoying our sunshine today! Wish I could send some your way!

Denver, CO

I jokingly sent some to 2zues, in trade for rain. Funny enough, I had rain and she had some sun.

begoniacrazii,

Would you mind if I used your picture, the one of the sun, to try to paint on one of my pots? I am not very good at painting unless I have something to go by. I will not take any credit for your design and I will only use it for my own pots. Thank you.

Editted to say that the reason I would like to do this is because I have several of those self watering AV pots, and they are all white. I have been looking for something to brighten them up and this would be great. Thanks again.

Jesse, sure you can use it, but it's not 'mine' Its from a print shop type program. I think you're safe to use it as your inspiration. =)

be sure to show us photos when you're done. Are you using ceramic paints? What a good idea, I have lots of pots that are glazed but not embellished.

if you want the full sized jpg file, just dmail me with your addy and I'll send it along.

Hey, for anybody wanting to embellish a glazed pot.... I really love working with Porcelaine brand paints. They come in paint pens as well as in little pots of color. It's the next best thing to kiln glazing for those of us without kilns! You fire them in the oven at something like 325 degrees, which any glass or ceramic item should be able to handle, especially if you place the piece in the oven while it is warming up. You can thin the paints with water and apply them almost like a watercolor wash, which is a neat effect on ceramic pieces with raised patterns on them... but if you thin the paint way down, it does become easier to scratch with a knife etc. Jim has a mug I painted that has been going through the dishwasher at least twice a week for 8 years now, and it still looks great.

thanks Jill - you've just planted another idea in my head....now I'll have to go to the craft store and check out those paints..
