Oh wow ..that is REALLY pretty!

Denver, CO

I just found this; You are very welcome, Allison.
I hoped the colors would accomodate the most colors of AVs. I poly-urethaned it pretty well so that if you can't find a plastic pot to nest into it, you can clean it. I think you are quite special, and well loved around here.
Kenton

Here is a picture I took from two angles before I sent it:

Wow, kenton that's a beauty! I'm inspired now! I just got about 30 3-5" clay pots at the thrift store for 10 cents each! Now I know what to do with some of them!

(Zone 7b)

Gorgeous! Plant and pot!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes it is gorgous ! And signed on the bottom very special and sure was a terrfic surprice. I have little tiny saucers , or chairs , or rocking chair it can sit on :)) I have little Angels that can hold small pots also. They were for little candels but I bought them ( well Mom told me I could pick what ever I wanted out of the Avon book as my daughter was selling it and Mom paid ! I got three hubby lost one movinglol) but their perfect for little pots. I think I will grow baby Moonbeam
in it ! Lorry mentioned that would be a beautiful Mini for it and I agree .
I love it ! Thanks bunches, Kenton :))
Allison
Laurie great price for those pots ! you could ship them to Kneton and he could paint them all for you :))

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Super paint job on that pot!

Allison, I can just picture one of your blooming beauties in it!

Kenton, did you seal the terra cotta before you started painting as well as afterwards? I've got some "clay pot sealer" (it was on sale, I think it's pretty much the same as plain ole polyurethane) that I could play with... I bought it mostly so I could seal terra cotta saucers to be entirely watertight, but maybe it would be good as an undercoat also?

Abilene, TX

Kenton, that is a great paint job! : )

Denver, CO

Thanks all. Color is good, no?

Begonia: Send them to me if you want. What colors would you want, any particular "theme" or ideas you want?

Jill: I do not seal before painting (I wash it well, though!) The water-based acrylic paint can then 'sink' into the pot a bit to hold tighter. I coated it at least three times with poly afterwords. Acrylic paint does not hold up in real sunlight.
Kenton

Here is a little pot I HAD to keep for myself, as the half-accidental cockeral gets me.

These pots are so pretty ! Cute for your mini's. I love mine.
Your so sweet to paint "Laurie's" . Kenton !

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks for the tip, Kenton! I hadn't thought about the paint holding better to an unsealed surface...

That cockeral is fabulous! You need a deep blue AV, maybe, for that pot... what size is it?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

The pot I got is it little over one inch ? I know it's smaller than 2 ". I love this size for my Mini's :))

Oh how beautiful those are! You've inspired me, Kenton. I have a negative amount of painting ability, but I'm still gonna try. What kind of paint do you use on the pots? Too bad I can't cross-stitch on terra cotta... LOL

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Allison thanks so much in advance..will be so excited to receive them...but, again, don't rush...Kenton..that's marvelous and such a beautuy....now i have to get my paints out..lol...haven't done it in so long...thanks everyone for the inspiration that abounds here...bob

Denver, CO

Jill, the pot is about the same size as Allison's: 1.5'+
Rain: For all but the weakest pigment colors (Orange, mainly) I would suggest just using "ceramcoat" brand Acrylic paint in nice little bottles. It is very cheap; usually about $1 per bottle, and a ridiculous amount of shades are available. It is very easy to use and travel; washing out with just water. That is why I like it. It also dries extremely fast.

Why can't you wrap a cross-stitch around a pot and coat it with something thick, hard, and glossy?
Kenton

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'll bet something like "Modge Podge" (the old decopage medium) or even Elmer's glue would work... followed by a couple of coats of polyurethane. You could also just apply cross-stitched elements (flowers, leaves, etc) rather than trying to wrap the whole pot. Or.... I've used those bottles of fabric paint to do a cross-stitch or needlepoint-like design on other surfaces (not just fabric), and I'll bet that would work on the pots.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Very pretty- well some of us seem to have multiple talents don't they? As for me, I have multiple personalities!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

So April, who are you today? LOL. Sometimes you just crack me up!

Denver, CO

Brillant, Jill. You are aware that you are a genius?

We-,er, I can relate, April.

Super ideas! Thanks! I'll look for some of that paint, too. Surely I can do *something* besides cross-stitch! LOL

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Kenton, I think that was just my morning coffee talking... LOL!

The fabric paint in the squeeze bottles is fun to use because it'll create a raised line or dot.... It'll take a lot of dots to do a cross stitch design, though... You'll find yourself humming that song from "Sunday in the Park with George".... "dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot..... !!" (OK, I confess, that reference was just for Kenton! and it's the only song I know from that production!)

RG, if you have the patience for cross-stitch, I don't think there's any crafty or artistic endeavor that's beyond you! Next time one of the big craft stores has a sale on those little clay pots, I'll bet we'll all stock up!

Oh I love to cross-stitch! Everyone says it looks way too tedious and stressful, but I find it to be quite peaceful and relaxing. But if I mess up, I can just pull the thread back out. Paint is a whole 'nother matter! LOL I'm gonna give it a try though.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I'll be potting up a Baby Moonbeam " Great sugestion from Lorry" in my new pot from Kenton tomorrow ! I don't have one blooming but have one in a 2 inch pot but a few in one inch pots one of those will go into my new pot ! I will take pictures YEAH !
Heh where is Ms Lorry today ? Hope she's on a date and is ok ?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

RG, the wonderful thing about paint is that it can generally be painted over easily, if it's too late to dab away a mistake with a damp paper towel. And if you "mess up" a 25 cent pot -- I will send you a couple of quarters for new ones! :-)

Well gee, with financial backing like that, how can I resist trying?? LOL Painting a room doesn't phase me a bit, but a little 2 inch flower pot scares me! ;o) My daughter loves to paint and we got her a set of acrylic paints for Christmas. She's always looking for something new to paint. We'd have a lot of fun painting flower pots together, and I just bet she'd share a bit of her paint with me til I could get my own. LOL She's not particularly interested in my flowers and plants, but maybe if they were in her own hand-painted pots, she'd like them more. I'm always looking for a new project to do with my kids. This sounds like a good one! I believe she still has quite a few bottles of fabric paint, too, so we could try that out as well. Thanks for the ideas! I'll let you know how we do.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Hehe I am here :)
We went to our local nursery today and that always takes longer then expected!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)
