How about everyone report the hoyas they are finding in the box stores! That will give everyone an idea of what MAY become available....maybe some plant exchanges. Sorry...I can't help...except HD did have some wonderful nummularoides the other day in full bloom for 3$. If I find stuff like that....I can sure offer to send them on, too.
Carol
Let's get reports!!!
For THREE BUCKS?! Oh maaaan - what a steal!
I'm heading out to Target & Lowes today and will report back. My Sis & I are heading to Chicago tomorrow to attend "MidAm" ( which is basically the largest Horticulture/Gardening trade show in the country) and we are going to snoop around at any/all local HD, Lowe's, etc we run across and check it out. So hopefully, we'll have something good to report on Thursday evening.
Here's what I have seen, sulawessi, probably brievilata, curtsii, australis, kentiana, ds-70, krimson princess. I thinks that's it. If someone wants one of those I would be happy to send them out. Don't want to be responsible for keeping them alive until spring though. I actually bought another curtsii, what is that #5 now?
Heather
I have found a few at local grocery stores, H. krimson queen and the princess, carnosa
Home Depot - H. krimson queen and the princess, H. bella, H. cv. krinkle #8, H-DS - 70
Target- - H. kentiana
Nurseries - H. pubycalyx - NOID waitting patiently, H. carnosa, H. nummularoides
Farmers Market - H. potsii, NOID which developed a peduncle this winter... Yippee
Trader Joe - H. nummularoides
Hunting for them is half the fun...
My hunt at Target & Lowes produced ZILCH. =~(
Ooops - I forgot that Target DID have a very sad looking compacta.

Oooh, if someone can find a full pot of Curtisii to forward on.....I *need* one!
I haven't been 'getting out'....gotta drive too far to get to a 'box store', with the exception of WM, which never has hoyas.
I don't know what I would guess it is, but I doubt I would guess carnosa... *thinking*
Christina
Nan, I found two huge EA baskets of D. nummularia variegated form that looked fantastic at WalMart yesterday. I avoided them like the plague because, like Carol, I killed the last one deader than a doornail.
I did, however, manage to find what I believe is a bella at the local Super Target today. It was labeled H. carnosa.. and it may well be, but it sure looks like a bella. I'll be able to check it out once I get home and can compare with everyone's pics. If it isn't, I have a friend who will take very good care of it.
Good luck on your expeditions, everyone.
Barb
You folks are killin' me, here!!
Well...if Carol killed a var. nummularia (nummularioides?) then I'm *certain* I would too! (Glad I haven't seen one!)
I hadn't heard/read about the two of you with that one....what do you suppose happened?
Like Heather, I'm determined to grow a decent pot-full of H. curtissii....I think it's my favorite foliage plant of all-time!
OK...now I get it....even though you'd posted *D.* nummularia.....I had HOYA on the brain, and was thinking that you meant Hoya nummularioides!
I have a little pot of that (wire basket....potted in Coir) Dischidia and although it hasn't grown rapidly or anything, it does bloom often and has even produced a couple of seedpods. I did try to germinate the seeds....they germinated with no problem, but I had *zero* success growing them on.
Grow that one in Coir if you can, and grow it *very* dry as Carol stated (below). I just mist the Coir and leaves every once in a while, and only give it a 'dunk' when the leaves are beginning to shrivel a bit.
I'm wondering how they managed to grow them in soil at all....I guess the grower probably kept it very dry and then the 'box store' grossly over-watered.

The leaves on this Noid are some what thick, light green underneath and glabrous. The leaves are very pitty ( I'm sure thats not the word for that). They have no speckling at all. The closest looking picture I've seen to it was a photo on Carols sight perhaps the original pubycalyx. I don't know why I put carnosa on the photo. DUH....
I didn't even know there was a var. nummularoides....
Nan, here's the thread I posted when I got the two unidentified Hoyas. The second pic is the nummularia, according to Carol...
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/551687/
See? I got it the middle of October and by January it was toast! One simple problem.. overwatering. I changed the EA soil to my special mix and that didn't even help. I still drowned the poor thing - even though I was careful about watering. Oh well...
Tami the leaves look the same as the leaves on my hoya Micrantha.
Blessings,
Awanda
That's what I was about to say but Awanda beat me to it. My H. micrantha looks the same. Never bloomed but a very easy and happy plant. A medium grower, not slow, not real fast.
You found that at the grocery store?? WOW>
Oh good, I will golook up H. micrantha and take a look. Oh darn, doesn't sound like it's a good bloomer. Awanda has yours bloomed? It really took off great from cuttings. And yes it was at a Bashas grocery store. Oh I gotta go take a look at this one I can't stand it. Thanks for the ID ladies.
Oh I like the flowers on this one. Some photo's are like a dusty rose, and some a def. pink.
Hurry Spring
Tami

I am late....the bases of Tami's leaves are wrong to be H. carnosa...I wouldn't have a clue.
D. nummularia wants to grow dry... If anyone would want to trade for a big pot of the EA variegateds, I would love to try it again!!!
Carol
Darn't Barb, I think that is one of EA's lacunosa's. Was it labeled hoya mini green leaf? Not that a lacunosa is a bad thing. I've never been able to get one to bloom, but I have boughten one in bloom.
Heather
:`-(
Oh well. I appreciate the info, Heather. It was labeled, Hoya Green Leaf "Hoya Carnosa". Origins South China.
I was thoroughly enchanted by Christina's pic of the bella bloom earlier today.
Barb
It COULD be H. lacunosa, Barb....it is hard to tell in your photo...but are their 'indentations' on the leaves inbetween the secondary veins that are at about 90deg. to the main vein?
I would love a D. nummularia variegated....Tell you what....cut off the vines (give the plant a haircut) and send them to me in ziplocks filled with air. Exchange? Send me a Dmail...I am determined to grow them well. :>() !! With what is left....I suggest you take it out of the pot, rinse off the roots, repot and grow dry.....
Ooooooo Goody!!
No problem, Carol. I'll stop by WM on my way home this afternoon and pick one up for you. In all honesty, I would rather rinse the roots and ship it off to you or whomever wants it or pieces of it. I am absotively posilutely sure that I'd just kill the next one, too. I will D-mail you this evening when I get home.
Out of curiosity, what hoya other than lacunosa might this be. I had one, that had many leaves that looked like lacunosa, some of the other leaves looked like a lipstick plant. When I purchased it, it had lacunosa blooms all over it, with one red looking lipstick looking flower. Possible they mix two different varieties in one pot?
Heather
Most likely they put a lipstick in the pot with the H. lacunosa!!! Cheech...if we were confused enough!
As posted by Betsy above, we were to attend the MidAm Horticulture Trade Show yesterday and today. Well, Betsy was driving - need I say more?? SERIOUSLY, there isn't an HD or Lowe's ( as well as a Target, a Meier's and a garden center) between Chicago and Mt. Zion that we didn't hit yesterday or today in search of hoyas!! And Chicago is 3 hours away!! Shameful to admit that we attended MidAm for a total of one and a half hours!! (teehee) We did score these two hoyas (and a beautiful Rubra, and an epi, and a philedendron that is gorgeous). Anway, these are both marked carnosa, but we've not seen these. Any help in id-ing these would be appreciated. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Hoya #1:
Sorry...looks like a green plant. can you get one of the leaf closer....?
Karen, if you don't have a mono- or tripod, try stacking some books on the counter a couple of feet from the plant, then rest your camera on the books. This should help with the blurriness (some friendly advice from someone that has only recently figured out how to take clear shots...)
Ann
You guys didn't quite get the whole story ~~~~~ Yes, it IS true: IIIIIIIII did the driving ....... but Karen sat in the passenger side with the map and did the "navigating". I thought we were headed to downtown Chicago but next thing I know, we're in a Home Depot parking lot! =0)
WE SURE DID HAVE A GOOD TIME TOO!!!
Edited to say: The kind of hoyas we found was pretty consistant from place to place....lots of Carnosa, some Kentianna, DS-70, and an occasional Compacta. There were two exceptions and those were the ones we bought. When my sis posts clearer pictures, maybe someone can tell us what they are. We were hoping we'd find some Curtsii, Australis, and Pottsi......but no such luck.

No 1 some kind of carnosa and no 2 inconspicua...? Just my little guessings.
Christina
# 1 has me stumped also. # 2 looks like the one I am seeing at Stater Bros. these days that is an EA plant labled carnosa mini green leaf hoya. I think it may be lacunosa.
Marcy
I guessed inconspicua because of the little "fold" in the middle.
Here's my inconspicua: http://www.myhoyas.com/Hoya%20inconspicua%20hela.htm
And just a few leaves: http://www.myhoyas.com/Hoya%20inconspicua%20foliage.htm
Christina
I would guess #1 carnosa, #2 lacunosa. Is it possible that exotic angel has the hoya that is the obscura/lacunosa cross? Sounds like you two had a very productive and fun day!
Heather
Ladies...if your luck is similar to mine, the new plants probably came in after you left!
Nice finds, though!
Heather...do you have a photo of the Curtisii you purchased?
Good looking plant!!! What size pot is it in?
Carol
Carol, this is in a 8" pot. Pretty cool huh!
Heather
Wow! I have one that size...and I water them about once a month!!! But then, generally we are pretty humid here. Congratulations....
Carol
