yes and queen of the night her blossoms so large takes to hands to hold one. And the heavenly smell wow . Yes my husband planted everything. The one plant I think begins with K ?? He planted in little plant pots inside for now. I looked up on one of the kitchen windowsills and I said where did those cute little plants come from. :)) He thought it be too cold out now. He used new pots and Av soil. I said better not be any bug . lol He's like oh no I looked :))
April, Wish I could grow the shrimp plant outdoors. Very cool. And your orchid...love it! Which one is that? I have about 4 paphs and love them.
Allison, Don't know which I like better, the cereus, four-o-clocks or plumeria. That cereus is just awesome. I have one that I bought from Logee's this past summer or fall. Can't wait until it's blooming size.
I want to move to a warmer climate, but no hope of budging hubby. :(
That is really a neat plant April. Is it warm where you live ? Do you get some snow ? We have had a lot of cool nights and days this winter so far.
allison perhaps you mean the Kalenchoes...with red blossoms...(think only on one when i sent it)...they're neat....
critter...on the plumeria...when they go dormant they really don't need any light...just put away in a warm place...than in spring bring them out etc...the only one plumeria that doesn't lose it's leaves is called the Obtusa...evergreen....it's a wonderful bloomer with white blossoms and great lemon scent..pic below of it and the snow on the mountain bush..
Beautiful Bob ! I think you sent me some mountain bush :))
You guys are asking for way to much information! You must think I know something- LOL.
Actually the orchids are new, just got them @ Thanksgiving in CA- where my mom lives; I don't know the names because that would be reasonable- sometimes I pick things because of the color and in my mind these 2 were the right color. The darker one is still in good shape and bloomed the week after Thanksgiving. The other one, lighter in color, bloomed the same time but the flower is really in bad shape, time to dead head!
Plantmom, sorry to hear that you can't grow shrimp outdoors- silly me, I grew up w/ them in So. CA & here they are quite popular as well, so I just figured everybody could. They are a great accent plant and wonderful fall/winter color!
Our zone in 9a to 9b, depends. We generally don't get snow, but you can never say never. In the 26 years that I have lived here we have had snow 3 x- the most recent was Christmas Eve/Day 2004 and it actually stuck to the ground! Usually we have aa week or two of cold weather, w/ freezing temps in Dec, Jan & possibly Feb- rarely in Nov or Mar. Halloween is either short sleves and sweaty kids in costumes or kids wearing sweatshirts over their costumes, kind of detracting from the image.
Our best growing season is late summer through fall, next is spring- the summer is brutal on the plants here, the sun is so hot and the temps are so high- they do love the humidity, but I don't! we are very close to the Louisianna border and also very close to the Gulf of Mexico.
So kids, how was that for a weather/geograpy lesson? LOL
allison...i think so..if not..i have tons...you're welcomje to as much as you want
Thanks April ! everyones pictures are Beautiful ! Thanks Bob :))
I really don't think I can pick.... though my current favorite might be my stapeliad seedlings. I'll upload that one.
And here's a link to my photo album again. http://flickr.com/photos/ki
Little green men:
Oh, too cute for words! And thanks very much for the link to the photo album.... I'll go check it out, but later, because if I go there now, I won't get to bed for a long time.... :-)
Kenton, you are a vine nut. Me too, although not as badly afflicted as you.
I have a snail vine that generally freezes to the ground, but due to wierd weather has not and so it's gone crazy and is still blooming, also have Mexican Love vine, it's so beautiful and has been blooming all winter. My new cross vine is already budding. I dug up my coral vine and moved it mid season so it's not at it's best but is still somewhat green.
Apparently my neighbor is not such a fan of my Mexican Love vine, he keeps trying to keep it on my side of the fence, but he is fighting a losing battle I think.
I love the Green Men!!! I just peeked in on my stapeliad yesterday. doing great, 1/2" of growth since October! Just need to see some blooms.
Back to fav's I love this Rudy Z hybrid. Sadly we lost Rudy last year. He was the begonia man!!
This is b. 'Caqui' and it was 14" high in the photo, it's now almost 2' and my favorite. I'll try to get a better shot of it later. This is from late summer.
Just beautiful.
