Yellow Morning Glory - i. ochracea - seed pods forming

Edinburg, TX

Okay, I've previously posted photos of the blooms but a few members have asked for more photos of the yellow morning glories (i. ochracea) seed pods. Here are some photos of the pods as they are starting to dry on the vine. I am also including photos of the flowers as they are starting to form in clusters.

Nice photos of the pods and flower buds, Cat. You should post those to the PF files. They really help when trying to ID a species, and most of the time you can't find decent photos on the web.

Hi Cat,
Very interesting pictures...there are no photos of the seedpods of this species available on the web(none that I could locate)...the picture here
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1966357
shows a pod pedicel curving upwards(!) towards the sky, while the picture here
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1966364
shows seedpod pedicels angled downward at about a 90 to 120 degree angle.

This is very unusual because the direction that the top of the seedpod capsule points controlled by the seedpod pedicel is usually very consistently either curved towards the ground or remains plainly pointed up towards the sky.

There seems to be a very few exceptions to this identification rule, like in some Ipomoea coccinea, where the pods can remain pointed upwards with no pedicel curvature,to some that curve towards the ground at usually no more than a 90 degree angle...

I'm very curious to see if the seedpod pedicels on yours consistently fluctuate in relation to the seedpod pedicel curvature.

Thank You Very Much for these photos and looking forward to any other pictures that you may share on the behaviour of the seedpod pedicels.

TTY,...
