This is my first bloom of the season
It is a Cybister called " Lima "
My Amaryllis
More to come
Lima is gorgeous. I bought 4 new bulbs last year and they bloomed beautifully and this year they did not flower except I see one has finally put up a bud. Disppointing!
Wow that Lima is striking. Have never seen that one. Pizazz is pretty also but not as unusual. I have a few, but just normal supermarket varieties although two are blooming right now and a third has a large bud.
Ann
Thanks Lilypon,
I have quite a few unusual varieties, I will post a pic when they Bloom....
Anna
Don't forget to post pics of your beauties in the PlantFiles as well. :)
This thread is certainly on watch.....the most unusual Amaryllis I've seen is Papillio so seeing yours will be (and is....just looking at the above two) a real treat Anna. Ü
Lilypon your Papillio is a real beauty. I MUST find one of those....
Anna
The Cybister " Lima "( Amaryllidaceae) certainly is a striking flower and Pizazz is just lovely.
Pam, I like your Papillio - the bold markings are so eye-catching. Did you grow this one?
I have one that should pop next week or 10 days. I still have some in the fridge from last year and must check dates to see when to pot them up.
Joan
I changed my user name from Lazygirl1 to Annetta_S... My old user name didn't seem right for a gardening site.
Annetta
Annetta is a very pretty name.
It seems a lot of people become unhappy with their first choice for a name. Probably it comes from being anxious to get started on the forum and hasty decisions are made. I changed mine also. Might even like to change it again but there's no third chance. Oh well.
Joan
Was wondering who you were. :)
Joan I picked Papillio up as an unplanted bulb two years ago at Superstore.
Pam
Well there you go Pam, you just never know where you'll pick up a bargoon. laff Have you had it flowering since its first time? Will be keeping my peepers open for that one.
Joan
It flowered again in Oct/Nov Joan. I do believe Superstore's price was prolly the best deal, on the Papillio, to be found anywhere. ;)
Hi Donna, I had that one and your picture is just gorgeous. Thanks for letting me see it once again. I have 2 bulbs still in the fridge cooler and as I've said before I better be looking at their dates as they may be ready for re-potting and starting all over again.
Joan
Just had a look and was disappointed to see some rot on both of them. Just around the crowns mainly, but some further down on one of them. Otherwise, they seem to be firm and healthy. I have washed them off and put them to dry.
What do you think their chances are?
Joan
Thanks, Joan. Did you cut the rotten areas away? I would think that they should still be fine.
:) Donna
I washed the rotted part off Donna. I do have hopes because otherwise them are firm and seem to be healthy. Joan
Annetta_S, your Orange Sovereign is really nice. Really bold color.
I think the one in the background behind my orange one above is and Apple Blossom. The flower is much smaller than the tall orange one, but there are 4 blooming now and two more buds about to open on the same stem. I have one more that is between the two in size. A student gave it to me and I don't know what it is, but the unopened buds look a lot like the Apple Blossom too.
Has anyone bought bulbs that were packaged in boxes and totally mislabelled? Last year I deliberately bought a couple of different varieties from Loblaws and they turned out to be the same. At least they bloomed.
Ann
Hi all--back after a long hiatus. I didn't know there were such interesting varieties of Amaryllis...I have the usual red (it had 11 blooms in time for the Christmas season!) and the lovely Apple blossom, but I see I'll have to branch out to something more exciting.
I don't do anything with mine except fertilize after flowering, and keep them slightly potbound. I've had them for 6 and 8 years, flowering faithfully at least twice a year, sometimes 3, and always for Christmas. Is it really better for them to have a dormant period, as my books all say? I sort of feel "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
Rosemary
How have you been? Nice to hear from you, Chilko.
I was having serious doubts about dormancy Rosemary after reading similar experiences. After reading your post, that is it - no more dormancy periods. What's to lose? What I'm doing now doesn't work.
Do you put yours outside for the summer? I think this is benefial for all plants, and even my African Violets go out.
Joan
Joan that is beautiful...That's another I must keep an eye open for.
Annetta
Very striking, Joan!
:) Donna
So many beauties here......still sitting on my wallet tho.
Here is another of my Amaryillis it's called "Emerald" it stands over 30 inches I had to support the blooms.
Annetta
Annetta I've fallen in love all over again!!! Ü
Where, oh, where did you get these beauties???????
I bought them at a local garden centre that I work at last spring/summer..... I was lucky to be in the store the day they arrived. They were flying out the door, so many people were buying them. I was one of the lucky one.... I still have a few more to bloom... I think one is called "Pink Flyod" The other I will have to wait and see. Some of the one's I am waiting on are from last winter.... Not all of them seem to have buds.
Annetta
If you get some spare, nice size but smaller bulblets, please keep me in mind.
I sure will keep you in mind....I will let you know if I have any to send you..
Annetta
Thanks Annetta I have my doubts I'll see it here. ;)
The Cybisters are just great Annetta and I'm getting to like them more and more. The black back-ground certainly brings out their best.
Joan
