Coffee and... For Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006
Hi all
Our weather was absolutely horrible on Monday so didn't post any until late. It stormed all day with blowing rain and tornado watches until 8:00 p.m. We had company for supper but probably wouldn't have invited them had I known the weather was going to be so bad. It's suppose to start dropping after the unseasonable warm tempts of the last few days.
I tried to catch up on all the goings on, but can't possibly do justice to everyone's interesting posts.
Defoe, I'm glad to hear that all went well with your DMIL. Was soooo sorry to hear about your DM's fall, though. Can certainly relate to head wounds and the scare. Ouch! LOL *And* the headache ooooh! Please give her my best and hugs.
Susan, sure wish I could have sent you some of this rain. We absolutely almost dround today. LOL
Mary, is it your kitty that has gained so much weight. That's just wonderful!
Carol, your meal sure sounded great. I really love hearing what others traditions are.
Hi to the odd Carol ... LOL glad to know you got all that paper work done for the year.
Darius, you sure are smart doing all that carpentry work. I have a bedroom ceiling fan that needs replacing. LOL
Okay, I know I didn't speak to everyone. It's late though, and the DH is already in bed. Morning is coming early. He's going back to work tomorrow and we'll be back in the same ole same ole. ;) Y'all have a good night and sleep tight.
... Elaine
Hi everyone........
julie - how about u make an announcement, something like---- any person posting after 11pm, or maybe 10:30pm, please start the new thread and post the links back forth? Would that work, u think? Then anyone who is up and able to do it, won't feel like they're stepping on any toes by taking care of it. We really are expecting too much from u, posting the new thread EVERY night! You're about ready for sainthood, I think!! oh, and bummer on the tulips - if u have some that aren't up yet, dump some bark mulch on them, keep them colder hopefully...
Made it to work, slowly, thankfully the roads were just wet tonight. The next ice/snow mix is supposed to be on it's way tomorrow night ---- I WANT SPRING!!
Pam, best part was I never lied - good thing, I'm such a lousy liar! Border guy was much more interested in the tools we brought for my brother. lol!
Morning everyone - 10 days without sun and yesterday was the pits- cold, driving rain, thunder and lightning. With an east wind driving the rain into our house, we had a leak by one door (I've told DH over and over it leaks!) He discovered it in his socking feet- looking out the window!! LOL Puts a royal funk on everyone. DH went off to work today - an hour late!!
Darius, those thin walls are a problem - good luck getting things to hang without crashing down. Cold weather returning for you too - crank on the heater!! It's 36 deg here this morning- a heat wave!
Vi - all that entertaining would leave me a basket case. How can you socialize with all the stuff in the oven???
Defoe - glad to hear the mothers are all recovering. Yuck - hate head wounds- they always look ten times worse than they are!! Saying prayers for both of them.
Mary, talk about bugs!! I was wondering why a wave geranium was looking so rotten - on closer inspection, it was covered with aphids. I cut it way back, washed off all the cuttings and planted them. I am on the lookout now for any straglers. The main basket looks pretty sad - hope it comes back!
M5- oprah was on here yesterday. It was a rerun with the Million Pieces guy. Was the book worth reading? I am surprised that guy is still alive - what a roller coaster ride his life has been. Would hate to have him for a son....
Hi to everyone else - it was pretty quiet here yesterday...everybody probably doing spring cleaning!!!
Today is day 2 back at the workout center. DH and I had a small treat - a small dish of lemon sherbert... I'm gonna hop on the scale before I eat - if you hear a scream it is because my weight is outta sight!!
Morning everyone!
IO1, I saw that nasty band of weather that you got yesterday. We were just on the very southern edge of the tail end of it. Nothing bad here, just a little rain and wind but the sky sure lit up constantly for a couple of hours after dark. My cousin lives about 25 miles north of us and got slammed with hail and 70+ mph winds.
Today looks like a warm and sunny day once the fog burns off. Molly should be back from errands by noon and there's lots of outside stuff to do... gardening and building!
Morning GOBs 'n Gobettes, another gray gloomy morning here. Looks like it will be that way all week again. Ugh. Have to do something sunny for someone else to brighten things up.
Robert that panel is looking splendid . Sawdust is a challenge isn't it?
I had a wood floor installed in the kitchen in our last house, and the young man who did it, did a great job of covering the cabinets and appliances so it kept the fine dust off. He even taped the doors so it wouldn't drift into the other rooms. Wish I'd had him for the floors here, these yahoos left some indelible stain marks that will never come out, but we didn't have a choice.
DR, the big old ham bone is friz already, I have visions of Pea soup, Bean soup, scalloped potatos, ham salad, omelets, etc for a long while! It's a nice tender ham, but an awful lot of it.....!
Sent our guest home with a huge bag of slices and pieces, and there's still a lot left.
MaryE, we will pick up the kitten on Sunday. He will be getting his first shots this week, if this ditzy breeder can get her act together. She is really disorganized and keeps making notes about who got which kitten, then losing the notes. He's presently running around with a red ribbon around his neck, which I suggested to her wasn't a great idea unless it is elastic and can easily slip off if he gets hung up on something. Worry worry worry, and he's not even here yet.
Also have to do something about my drapes and curtains and get them up out of reach!! Oh boy. Been a long time since we had a little terror running around..... named..........uhhhh, Oliver or Kaluha...maybe. ..unless something else strikes me.
Dcat, more water to the pot!! LOL That's an old familiar saying, did your mother know my mother? When will they let your MIL go home from the hospital, will she need someone with her once she gets there? Or will she go to family for a while? She'll probably be eager to be in her own place as soon as possible.
V.ann, that's a great plan for feeding that many people. Finger foods and no place settings. We usually spread out the goodies too, otherwise everyone just hovers around the main source. For DS's wedding, held in our back yard, I went to Sam's and got a big box of those mini-quiches, with four varieties, about a hundred to a box. It would have been great if I had remembered to take them out and bake them! We nibbled on those for months!
Lucky you, Sarv. We had no Oprah. We got football. And more football. I did like the book, but it is a hard book to read, as he documents his drug use, and recovery, in vivid detail. I'm surprised he has enough brain cells left to write anything at all. I agree, I wouldn't want a son like that, he put his family through enormous pain and expense. Makes even my youngest dd look almost normal.
I think everyone is just flat out exhausted from the holidays, haven't seen Ernie for a while, and a few others.
Julie, I wasn't ignoring the suggestion that some of us pick up on starting a new daily, I just forgot how, and can't remember which thread it was in when you explained it before. So if you will explain it again for the technologically challenged, I will write it down and keep it for reference and use in the future.
DH just informed me that he has added items to the grocery list, so I'll be out navigating in the fog later. Maybe stop by Minn. Fabrics and cruise the aisles................LOL Good excuse to turn on the sunny lamp...and avoid dusting...
Later.
Sheila
Good morning! Came in to work today, but feeling kinda punky. I am sure it's the weather. It cold and rainy again. Very windy and hard rain last night.
Mmmm - Those of you talking about soup with that ham bone, today would be the perfect day for it.
Back from the workout joint - worked out for 50 min, then came home and walked a mile and half on the tread. Now I'm eating a healthy salad for lunch. Going out for din din with the retired gals. I'll have to persue the menu for something acceptable...the ruben I love there just won't be good!! They make fries to die for....whaaaaaa
I did buzz into Target and bought myself a new workout shirt in a bright green. Not my fav color, but it made me look alive, so I got it! I was looking for some bias tape to lengthen my workout pants. They shrunk up (or else my fat hinny is taking up more room!) Anyhow they are high waters now. Could it be that they don't stock stuff like that? I walked and walked and never found any. Now I need to go to a fabric store -
Oh the salad I am eating is heavenly. Romaine lettuce cut up, cut up apple, cranberries, swiss cheese, cashews and poppy seed dressing. I just can't get enough!! yum
Well, nothing much new - I am washing the bedding and will need to reassemble the beds, do dishes, then I am done for the day....
Sarv - That salad sounds yummi! I have never had good luck finding clothes in Target. I love some of their home stuff.
Just finished lunch break, had some leftover snow peas and chicken with cranburry relish. Time to get back to work.
See ya!
I have great luck with clothes at target-- t-shirts- jeans etc... p's!
LOL
Hi all happy day to you!
Anne
Hi all,
sarv - a lot of the food doesn't go into the oven - the cheese, hummous, etc. And don't most people seem to congregate in the kitchen anyway? Even though most of the food has been moved into other rooms, my kitchen is always full of people to talk with. LOL
Your salad sounds GREAT and reminds me that I've not yet eaten lunch.
Cleaning lady was here this morning - don't know how long. She arrived late - after I left and was gone when I came back from the FC. Sure didn't spend much time. Probably just as well that I can't afford her after I retire because her standards are slipping a lot. Easier to tell her that I can't justify her when I no longer have a paycheck than to confront her about the quality of the work.
Gonna go get lunch and clean up a room - that's the most challenging part of this party - clearing the guest bedroom which the Viola society has taken over and the room where I teach which has stacks of music all over the place as well as a desk which has become a horizontal filing cabinet. I think we all need a party that takes over the whole house at least once a year.
TTYL
Ann
Viola I know the feeling seems cleaning crew here lost interest or slipped on too much now have to just do it myself! do a better job anyway... LOL
Salad does sound good..
will have some now
Anne
Hi all
I've been busy busy today. The last couple of weeks has had me really behind with so many things I've needed to do. Now that the DH is back at work, I started trying to do all those things I haven't done since he's been around. Don't know how people who have retired ones manage. LOL Maybe it's just us ... but when he's around we seem to loaf a lot. I only do the basic stuff.
Hey Sarv, you got any of that salad left over? That really sounds great. I got on the scales this morning. Mine are talking scales. Instead of giving my correct weight it said ... one at a time, please. ;) hehehe
Darius, the weather was *really* awful here yesterday but today it's beautiful. Hard to believe the tempts are going to drop again.
M5, am so excited for you. Can't wait for you to get your new baby.
Ann, you are very industrious to have such a large party. I am not cut out for such as that. I call a party 6 people. LOL I'd be a nervous wreck!
Has anyone herd from Susan? I'm wondering about her surgery.
Ooops, there goes the dryer. Hi to everyone else. Will check later.
... Elaine
Hi All,
Just a quick checking in while I'm trying to eat lunch.
sarv,
I didn't start yet,,,,,said I was going to the 2nd,,,but, just didn't happen, I'm going to start the revised eating tomorrow,,,,,,LOL Good for you though,,,once I start, hope we'll be able to *help* each other stay motivated????
darius,
glad the weather wasn't too awful down there,,,
Elaine,
glad you didn't get it too badly.
Ann,
I agree,,,telling her you can't afford her any longer is a lot easier than telling her her cleaning has started to stink.
M5,
oooo, How fun (yeah right) to bring a new little terror home,,,LOL He'll be right at home in no time.
kooger,
Glad to hear you made it o.k.,,,,,I Hate icey roads and I'm sure glad I don't have to drive to work., Hope you make it home safely also.
Sisn't do anything New Years Eve or Day,,,was so nice to relax,,,LOL,,,,I did get all the Christmas stuff down and did a little laundry, read a bit and took a couple nice naps over the weekend,,,I just Love to take naps on Sat. afternoons in the winter,,LOL I Should be getting Something done though,,,,Oh Well, I don't think anyone ever died thinking, My house wasn't clean enough,,,LOL
Well, hi to all I missed,,,gonna go check the rest of the threads. Hope all have a good day.
Kelly
Just checking in again - just to avoid folding laundry!!
GG - ok, you need to be my motivator. I keep expecting miracles after one day!!! How can I have such a roll of flab around my middle. I've been working out for 4 months and haven't seen a difference at all - except I feel better and that is a good difference~~ get your butt in gear girl!!! We need to be skinny in the sping!!
I potted up 6 geraniums - need to pot slips of several more. Maybe when I am done typing here I will get that done. I have a big bag of potting soil in my sink upstairs and a mess on the counter.
I have to clean my cousins house tomorrow = it will really be bad as it's been six weeks. I bought him new mini blinds for two rooms. Now I just need to get them up. He won't even notice them, but I will feel better. The ones that were up there were white once, but are now orange with the nicotine stains on them. I brought one set of them home to cut up for plant markers when I start seeds. I'm going to soak them in bleach before using them tho.
The miner situation sure doesn't sound good. My heart goes out to those folks.
Good morning, or whatever you have.
Sarv, that salad sounds great. Good for you going to workout and eating healthy food!! Soon those pants will fit your shrinking body, don't give up. What is the miner situation?
101, "one at a time" LOL. I know what you mean about the husband being underfoot when you decide to clean and putting it off until he isn't home. My hubby had a 3 day weekend for New Years and just went back to work today, so I have to get out the vac soon. I did get some laundry done, and of course played with AmandaPanda. She is sleeping now.
Got to get off my hiney and dance with the vacuum. See you all later.
Hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year! I was away for a few days with no computer, so I'm way behind - as usual!
Defoe - I hope all is well with your DM. My DM fell Christmas day, and was sore for a few days. She has been in the hospital since last Thursday, but that has nothing to do with the fall. Hopefully, she will be out today.
Kooger - we had crazy weather here, too. Thunderstorms and lots of wind yesterday. The Christmas decorations are a mess and the garden club is coming tomorrow night to see them (had to reschedule from December; had a snowstorm that night.)
Julie - from Kooger's post it sounds like you have tulips coming up! Tell me it's not true!!!
Sarv - I haven't read Million Pieces. Is that the guy with multiple personalities?
Darius - how are you? I haven't been able to keep up with posts and feel like I've missed a million years.
M5 - did you get the thunderstorms yesterday? We were over in Pell Lake and Lake Geneva when it all started. Good luck with the new "baby!"
Suzi - hope you feel better soon.
Magoo - happy day to you, too!
Ann - I hope your party goes well and everyone has a good time! Your energy amazes me!
Elaine -
Instead of giving my correct weight it said ... one at a time, please. ;)
LOL LOL! Mine would have screamed "GET OFF ME!!!"
Kelly - just have a customer hold your sandwich and you can take a bite every now and then. That way you don't have to eat during lunch, and can spend the whole time with us!
I mentioned a new puppy, but never did give any details. His name is Eddie and what a cutie! He is seven weeks old today and full of energy. He and our five-year-old dog are both Golden Retrievers.
Thought for the day:
In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him. ~Dereke Bruce
Have a wonderful day!
Jody
jas- Million Pieces is about the guy who was hooked on alcohol/drugs etc. He was on Opera (rerun tho) I need to check and see if my library has it or can get it.
Mary -Miner situation is the 13 guys trapped in the mines down south.
Got the geranium slips all potted up and on the heat mat. Patting myself on the back - I've been meaning to do that for several months. I can't believe they were still alive!
Just for you guys with the sun- this is our 11th day without any sun and there will be more of this crappola coming..sigh - I've even been thinking of laying in the tanning beds just for some bright light....
Sarv- A friend used to own a tanning salon and in jan/Feb i would go once in a while just to feel like I had be out in the sun. It really does make you feel better, just do it in moderation..
Jody - Like that thought.
Nope Jody...~grin~...at least not that I know of. But then I haven't checked on them, either. (That was M5 who had them popping up, I think.)
Kooger, your idea of having someone who is up late or early in the morning start the new daily thread is a good one. That's what I wanted to in the middle of summer but no one 'bit'. :-) (thanks for the recommendation for 'Sainthood'...but believe you me, I'm no where *near* that status. LOL)
Sheila...bless your heart...didn't mean to put you on the spot. It never occured to me that starting new threads wasn't your forte. Thanks for offering to help out.
So, not to worry, I've talked to Kelly (GardenGeek_Wi) and she is willing to take on the task of starting the daily thread for me while I take a break. I think we could use a list people who are willing to help out occasionally when Kelly and/or I can't be around to start the new thread.
If you would interested in being contacted when the need arises, please D-mail me. The only thing I want to make sure of is the "Coffee and..." subject line stays in the same format so people will know it's the same thread. And that there's a forward link to the new thread and backward link at the beginning of the new thread. (You never know when someone *new* is going to want to see how we got "there from here."
Now before anyone gets the idea that I'm leaving DG...nothing could be farther from the truth. I just need a little break to do some other things. No one has made me 'mad'...no one has "hurt my feelings"...and no one has "talked too much" or taken over the thread. I think the 'Coffee and...' thread has become the same type of "addiction" that the Soaps used to be for me and I have to break the habit. LOL
So, beginning with tomorrow's thread, Kelly will be "hosting" and I will be the 'visitor'. And one more time, please forgive me if I only "check in" and don't write individual replies, ok?
See ya soon...
~julie~
Julie from one who seems to only have the time for a quick hello after reading posts here I think it fine to have you visit as I do.
Love everyone here and read all just a horrible slow typer and not enough time to comment on all but like the time to read and catch up!
Jody... and where are pictures of this dear little pup???
Anne
Wow,,,,about a bazillion posts since I last posted,,,LOL
suzie,,,
Hope you start feeling unpunky.
sarv,
O.K.,,,,DEAL,,,,,did you take measurements before you started at the Huff and Puff???? maybe there are a lot more rresults than you think there are? And,,,ummmm, no matter how hard I try,,,I will not be skinny by spring,,,skinnier,,,but not skinny,,,,,,I'm one of those need to lose a lot of weight people,,,had a great start last year,,,lost 48 lbs. people were starting to notice,,,,got stressed and stopped watching it,,,but, I'm gonna start again,,,I feel like %$^&.
Mary and Elaine,
Same here,,,when Bill's home I just can't seem to get my substantial rear in gear.
Mary, have a good dance,,,LOL
My scale would say "I can only weigh one person at a time,,,all the rest, GET OFF
Jody,
There's a thought,,,LOL,,I'm sure the customer's wouldn't mind,,,,,I could just see it,,,ROFLOL Great Quote.
Julie,
You take all the time you need to do your thing,,,you've posted the new thread every night for over a year now,,,I'll be happy to do it. We know that you are having a grand time with your Embroidery and all those great designs,,,just have fun,,,but Don't get lost on us,,, We'll have to send Gayle over to slap you and get you back in here,,,LOL
Kelly
What a busy bunch....! Took me a while to catch up !.. Yup, those are my stupid tulips coming up. Threw some mulch in the corner but it's probly the only warm spot in Wisconsin so they'll keep growing as long as it 's above freezing. We had thunder storms all afternoon yesterday.
If you are trying to lose weight, a scale is not your best friend. I don't even speak to mine. If my jeans are too tight, I'm fat. Right now I'm whatever passes for normal for me, which is a big sack of flour under 200 lbs., and everything I own fits. For lunch I dragged out a broasted chicken breast I brought home from lunch last week, and chopped it up over salad left from dinner last night. Few ripe olives sprinkled over and some light dressing...it was pretty good. AND THEN I ATE A CHOCOLATE FROSTED MUFFIN....so much for good intentions. LOL
And I ironed four shirts for DH. They were supposed to be no-iron, I think that meant no-iron by him. He picked them up at Penney's Warehouse last week when we went out for chinese, killing time before the restaurant opened. They were so wrinkled, they must have been in the bottom of whatever they ship them in. He bought all kinds of stuff. His biennial shopping spree. He wears stuff until it is in shreds.
Went out in the fog and did the grocery shopping. (where did you think I got choc. muffins?) Spent a hundred bucks and didn't buy any meat at all, just restocking the pantry. I should buy the heavy stuff on weekends so DH could haul it in the house.
Julie, I stopped at the fabric store and they had a Bernina machine doing embroidery, all by itself, scallops and what all. I was mesmerized until I saw the price on the machine. If you bought it without the embroidery function it was $600 less. With it, was almost $4000.. Yikes. Cross that right off my list of future purchases. I can see where that could become an all consuming hobby.
Elaine, I can hardly wait to get that new baby too. He's so cute. His color isn't very dark yet, because of his age, but his mother's color is great, dark bittersweet chocolate brown which is the appropriate color for a seal point siamese. The little guy is still kind of fuzzy, but the points are dark enough to tell already he will be a seal. His eyes are vivid blue, and the photo I have of him shows him sitting in a basket, on full alert, head up and looking directly into the camera. He has on a little red ribbon to distinguish him from his littermates. and he looks ready for anything! I talked to the kittymom yesterday and she says they are tearing around the house like little windup demons. I think she'll be glad to see the back of them all. Having two litters of kittens three weeks apart had to be time consuming. Both mothers gave equal time to any kitten that needed milk.
DH went back to work today, maybe now I can get something done. He really doesn't get in the way, he's always glued to his computer or down in the garage, but, he's **here***, if you get what I mean. I don't much feel like zipping around doing chores when he 's sitting on his butt....ahh, well, what will I do when he retires.
DGS called me this afternoon, and asked if he could use me for a reference for his student loan. He also asked me if I had trouble keeping busy since I retired. LOL I said I was better organized when I was working because I had time limitations where as now I can procrastinate endlessly, and always have more than enough to do.
Julie I will dmail you. We understand there is a life outside of DG. Isn't there??? LOL
I don't think anyone expects to be addressed directly in every posting, Mags. Personally, unless I direct a comment to a specific situation, I assume everyone is being spoken to en masse. I don't need to see my name in everyone's post....I can remember it pretty well without help. LOL Most days, anyway!!! So if I don't mention someone by name, they are still being addressed!
Back to my book. Missed that darn show on Oprah yesterday. Even had the dvr set to record it.
Same here, LOL. Don't need to see my name in print, y'all. I don't always have time nor the memory to respond to everyone but sure enjoy reading. ;)
Hey ... I wanna go on that weight challange with y'all. Ask me every day how much water I drank as I currently only drink a glass here and there. Also, I use to *always* walk 3 miles on my treadmill 5 days a week but in the past 6 months have completely gotten out of the habit. Y'all make me accountable for this, K? I *really* need some help. :)
There's the DH. He can't find me on the computer again. LOL

I wish my wife would post on this thing. But she does not like to talk to people on the computer. She could inspire you to loose some weight if you want to. I know she looked her own over eating and eating the wrong things as her enemy. It really is if you stop and think about it. It is your own vice trying to control you. And it will do nothing but ruin your health both phyical and mental. Many years ago I did this myself with smoking. I threw my cigs on a dresser and went cold turkey. Everytime I wanted one I reminded myself that they were out to do harm. I believe that is what my wife has done. She went from a size 16 to a size 6 this year. I know any of you can do it if you want to. YOU are in cantrol not that rotten urge that wants to hurt you. Anyway your still all fine ladies in cyber space.
Fabulous Fine ladies for sure.
I am willing to help anybody here to lose weight if so desired... I went from a size 12 this past summer to a 6-or a 4 depending on the design.
It is not easy ---it is not too hard ---it is actually a change in mind set all together and what one wishes for. Whether that be to get to a size 4 or 14 it can be done.
I found that the V8 thing worked for me along with excersise. But all are different. Lowering carbs etc...
The one thing that really helped me is to start by finding one thing I could live without and start from there. That could be cookies or cream in your coffee and then alter the rest in time. You will find alot can be substituted and just as enjoyable.
Sorry I have rambled on.....
But know that when you go down one size and feel that it is fabulous incentive!!!
Anne
The diet starts AFTER my party on Saturday. ;-)
Life outside of DG? You must be kidding!
My sewing machine is a Sears Kenmore bought in 1969 and still going strong. Has some rudimentary embroidery stuff which I don't use. but then it didn't cost $4000. Sometimes I think about getting a newer one. Have bought Kenmore machines for both my daughters. Occasionally get to use the one belong to DD#1 who lives locally and think it's a bit better machine than mine, but mine works OK.
Ann
My original Kenmore, bought in the 60's was the last model they made with machined gears, after that they went to white metal, and later to some kind of plastic. It lasted until the 90s when I couldn't replace the belt any more, the new one was some kind of manmade material and just slipped. I bought a portable, and later a cabinet, and it was about $120, and it's still working fine, doing pretty much any kind of sewing I need to do. My sis is still looking for parts for her old Singer which is the type quilters like and that one dates back to the 70s!
What am I doing back here?
Anne what you said about going down one size is the exact thing my wife said. It is truly a mind set but making it oyur enemy sure helps to get that set. I smoked 3 packs a day. started when i was about 10 yrs old quit at 35 cold turkey. I made it my enemy. It helped but might not work for everyone.
very good point and well taken in many aspects of life!!!
Hi All,
Let's see,,,sewing machine,,,,, I currently use a Singer from about 1959,,,,,was a gift to my Aunt and my Mom in High School. My Aunt was a seamstress as her full time from home job for years. She moved up in machines and my Mom got the old Singer,,,LOL My Aunt Still says that machine sews the Best straight stitch of any machine she's ever used. If I get rid of it, she wants it back,,, Would Love to have one of them there fancy new fangled gadgety machines but,,,,checkbook says NO.
Weight loss,,,,,,, tomorrow is the start day. I will get my books out and start reading agian to get my motivation up,,,I feel like @#$%! Between sarv, my books and Bill,,,I should have plenty of support and motivation,,,,along with the rest of my friends here in Coffee and.....I thank-you all in advance.
cigarettes,,,,not a chance in #$^& while I'm trying to lose weight,,,LOL hey, give me a break,,,will only work on one vice at a time,,,,LOL
So, will start getting rid of my substantial rear,,,
well, gonna go check some other threads,,,,
BBL
Kelly
oz,
Very true,,,,will make some foods my enemy!!!!!! Good for you with the smoking and your DW for the weight loss. Fantastic.
Kelly
I, too, have lost weight by watching my carbs ... but I have slipped up of late. *sigh* I have no problem with the bread and potatoes, but like rice. We have switched to brown rice and whole wheat flour along with Splenda in our house ... but I have to have my chocolate. LOL I keep the sugar free chocolate candies around for those times I feel like I'm going to commit a murder if I don't have some. Now that my DH can drive, I'm not walking like I use to ... plus that water thing. LOL
Okay, enough about that.
Congrats to you and your DH, ozarkian. Oh ... and to you also Mags. I *was* a size 6 but have slipped to an 8. boo hiss
... Elaine !
Well, has anyone noticed that I have been gone all day? LOL It was a hectic one. This morning, I tackled the bookkeeping, and got one set of tax forms done. Made some telephone calls, made several appointments, (hair, and dentist) Guess which one I don't mind? Then had some errands to run. Home for lunch, and a short rest, then took DM to Dr this afternoon. Her blood pressure is up, and I have to being taking it 3 times a week for the next couple of weeks, and if it doesn't go down, back to the Dr. He took her off the cumiden (blood thinner) and substituted aspirin. He is concerned that taking it while being dizzy will cause her to fall, and bleed internally. So We will work with that.
DMIL was moved to a room today, some needles and tubes removed, so to say the least she is feeling better. They are suggesting that when she is released, that she go to a rehab facility for 2-3 weeks. She is not offering too much resistance, I think that she knows that it will be awhile before she is up to being at home. I have offered for her to come here, and WE will take care of her. Notice I included DH. Since it is his mother, he should be included and do his share. I doubt that she will take us up on that offer, but the offer was made.
Now to posts made today.
101 your weather was like our yesterday. And I laughed out loud about your scale saying One at a time!! That is hilarious.
Kooger, I forgot what did you bring across the border? The last time I was in Canada, was detained for 3 hours, and had nothing to hide.
Sarv, a leak. Men just won't listen when we tell them something is wrong, just have to find out for themselves. Some years ago, I told DH that the knobs that turn on the water in the shower were loose, and needed attention. Well, procrastinator that he is did nothing, until one night he got in the shower, and turned the water on, and the cold water knob fell off, and was spraying him with very cold water. This is in the winter, and we didn't have a cut off in the bathroom, but in a closet in the adjoining kitchen. Him being blue from the cold, and buck naked to boot, is running around trying to turn off the water. Neighbors chose that time to visit, and we have laughed about that for 25 years or so. Sounds like you have a great start on the diet. Workout was good, and the salad sounds yummy. You go girl. I was a cheerleader in high school, so I will be your personal cheerleader in this endeavor.
Darius, so you got some of the weather too. In addition to the awful storms, there was an EARTHQUAKE in Western Kentucky yesterday afternoon, plus tornados.
Meezer, I am so anticipating your getting the kitty on Saturday. Whack that breeder in the head, when next you see her. Tying a ribbon around an animal's neck. What the heck is she thinking? DH won't even take his beagles hunting with a collar on. Lost one, years ago, who got hung in a fence, and choked to death. About drapes and curtains, just tie a loose knot in them, to get them off the floor. Have your spray bottle handy, and spray him anytime he is doing something you don't want him to do. LOL, your mother and my mother must have been neighbors at some point in their lives, water in the soup. And how in the world could you forget to bake quiche. That stuff is good!! And yeah, we had nothing but football here also. Ordered a new satellite, DH may just expire from exhaustion from watching too many games.
Susieq, sorry you are not feeling well.
Magoobu, hi there.
VAnn, we have a cleaning lady for DM, and she does a very poor job. I try to be there to tell her what to do as DM is not much at giving direction. Yes, it will be easier telling her you can't afford her than addressing the sliding work. A party like you are having would certainly get my house clean.
GardenGeek, complaining about naps, girl naps are good. Have one every afternoon.
Sarv, potting geraniums- this early? Okay, this is the first year I have saved geraniums, I need some advice about reserecting them. So give me directions. Please.
Mary, give Amanda-Panda a big hug from me. And I laughed, dancing with the vacuum. I think that is what is wrong with my house, I don't dance enough.
Jasmere, okay, we are due pics of Eddie. I just loved the thought for the day, as I have both a dog and cat indoors, and that is so true.
Julie, you haven't noticed the halo on your head when you look in the mirror? I understand the need for a break, but don't be a stranger here, you hear? As far as starting the new thread, I would be glad to do that, but, I don't know how. Isn't it nice that we have people who are computer savvy to step up to the plate. Go Gardengeek.
Ozarkian/Magoobu, you all could be trainers/coaches for those who are dieting. I will be the cheerleader!!
And about sewing machines, I have a portable, and drag it out to do repairs, shorten hems, etc. But right now it is broken, and instead of spending money on that I am saving for a greenhouse. LOL
Well I have rambled. If you all don't like me posting such long posts, then get your butts down here and help me with my work, and I can take breaks and check in more often. LOL. I thought after the first of the year things would slow down some, but I think the snowball, just crested the hill, and is picking up speed.
Well, I am off to do my journal. I have started (the first of the year) to make a daily journal of weather, everyday happenings, etc. Just a reference for me, when I think, wonder what day it was that I did so and so?
Hope everyone has a good restful night, and I will wish for sunshine for those who haven't seen it in awhile.
Goodnight.

Hi all,
I only just got here today!! Went to the Huff & Puff first thing and was delighted to discover that I have lost 4lbs, which is amazing as over Christmas I always gain 7-10 without fail !!
Diet is OK if you do over eat, or eat wrong in the first place! BUT if you only eat the healthy stuff, don't nibble and don't overdo it at meal times you shouldn't be fat right? ?? Wrong, some of us just are!!
Me for instance - Christmas aside that is, when like 90% of folk I do over indulge.
Hate sugar, don't eat cake and cookies, can't eat chocolate, only do desert if we are having company which isn't often. Have a salad for dinner 5 days out of 7, no potato or pasta, and one turkey/tomato sandwich, no mayo, for lunch, don't drink alcohol and prefer water to soda anyday. If I stop eating altogether I might lose weight I suppose, but I think I might be dead before I lost the 90lbs I would like to lose!! LOL
So the only alternative is to up the exercise and I have always believed exercise kills!! Years ago husband of a friend was out jogging in some very rough weather. The wall alongside which he was running collapsed and killed him!! That sure puts you off exercising to keep fit and stay alive!!
Got a nasty shock later this morning - the bank had deducted $500 from our account - they said it was a returned check. We hadn't paid any checks in for weeks and none that size. It took some convincing them that they needed to invetigate, they went throughthe last 3 months transactions because they were sure they would find a match, but in the end they admitted they couldn't and started cross checking - they had deducted from the wrong account - another customer with the same name apparantly!! They put the $$ back straight away after that but my stomach is still in knots - that is a lot of $$ to be out at this time of year.
Everyone has been very chatty here today so I'm not going to comment except to hope all the ailing parents are getting better.
Night all, sleep tight, hope the bugs don't bite as we used to say!
Carol
The Odd One
dcat,
forgot to say thanks. I'll do my best,,,but I have to warn everyone,,,I'm not a great as Julie calls it Hostess,,,,,if you want something, you have to get it yourself,,,LOL Pop's in the fridge, and you can have whatever you find in the fridge or the cabinets,,,coffee pot is usually on,,,there's cream and sugar and Sweet & Low on the counter by the coffee pot and the coffee mugs are in the cabinet to the right of the sink,,,,,ROFLOL
okus,
Maybe it's one of those God awful plateaus? If I may ask, how much have you lost already,,,if it's non of my business, I don't mind if you tell me, "It's none of your business",,,,LOL I hate exercizing also,,,I will Not walk in the winter,,,can't afford a broken bone. And my excuse for the summer is the gosh darned heat or humidity,,,LOL
Have also heard of those *perfect* physically fit people collapsing and having a heart attack. I just think when it's your time, you go,,,no matter what the circumstances are.
Glad you got the bank to find the mistake,,,,that's a hefty sum to be without,,,,
Well,,,now I'm going nitey nite,
Kelly
