emotionally drained after seeing boy go, so I took a nap. He's excited about his new life and has already started feeling proud. Nicest thing is that every time he's told people he was enlisting, they have been so nice to him, thanking him and wishing him well. So he is going in with that feeling that he's doing a good thing with his life. Jordan is 21 1/2

Wow, Annapet, I can just imagine how nice it will be building a retaining wall. Makes me think about those landscaping shows I 'm addicted to on HGTV. I hope you never have to work under the kinda heat we experienced in 2005 here in Texas. Hubby was telling me he saw an e-blurb in his computer that said 2005 was the hottest year in texas in 100 years. that is hot, baby!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Annapet, thank you! Your project has such wonderful promise; I can just envision so many possibilities. What fun!

Kenton, too funny! I have Far Side images in my mind now LOL.

voss, tuberoses are so waxy and lovely, and the scent is wonderful. They're winter hardy for you, so I bet they'll require little care.

oh, i miss far side.

...i'm not even jumping into the tuberoses bandwagon. next year perhaps?

Hey- I want a link to a neandering path. A parallel to my life nowadays...

And: It's always been the hottest year in Texas.

i did good today. sort of. planted about 50 late daffs. well, they are not late, but i'm behind planting them. also buried a dozen lilies (donau).

Kenton,

You were interested in special lilies for your garden, weren't you?
If you want nock-out lilies, I would recomment extremely beautiful tall-growing orientpet lilies "Indian Summer" (yellow) and "Northern Carillon" (purple with white edge). I know, you will certainly like them. But the thing is that these cultivars are sold only by Canadian lily-specializing nursery Lily Nook, though it does export.
Enjoy the pics

"Indian Summer"

Wow! Those are both amazing Boyed. Northern Carillion reminds me of Silk Road, but looks even deeper in color and sturdier. Love the down facing blooms of Indian Summer; I think B&D lilies carries that one to.

I was going back and forth trying to decide between Northern Carillion and Northern Sensation. I decided on Norther Sensation because the Lily Nook info said they were more hardy. They look almost alike except the NS is more bowl shaped.

Oh, sorry, I had it. Here you go... I hope you don't mind it being pretty saturated already.

Corte Madera, CA

again, gorgeous lilies.

received BHG mag today, and there's a photo of a 9' lily, though not yet in bloom, and didn't say what it was. arghhhh....

foliar fed my baby sangs today. the leaves are getting bigger, and starting to look like sanguinea leaves. in 4" pot. if this batch do not get too big for mailing late march, early april...one of you will get this.

an 8" rooted sang cutting went for $21.50 on ebay today. $2 handling, plus shipping.

There is a cult of this in the African Violet Room. Everyone jumps out of their shirts if someone posts "I just ordered (Such&Such) Violet Leaves from E-bay. Neat, Huh?" The thread opens up to a lecture that goes something like: "If you want something, ask around here, as there is almost always somone who WANTS to give you a plantlet, as half the fun of AVs is propagating them... Otherwise, you just loose money something sad."

Isn't DG just the best thing since non-lead plumbing?

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Yes, Kenton. Yes it is. :-)

Denver, CO

(Ha Ha- you have no idea how Ironic it is that you just chimed in...)

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Somehow I just don't think that would work with those very spendy martagons, but just in case, anyone have an extra L martagon var Black Prince?

Just kidding...

Corte Madera, CA

oh, beaker, if i have them, i'll share for sure.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Hey, you never know when a scale might fall off in shipping. Never hurts to ask. :)

Denver, CO

Never hurts.

Not impossible. Some asiatics can be blooming size the second year after scale division. (Lollipop) Yet other species have running shoots undergound that throw off bulbs a nice dividable ditance from the mother plant.

Have your heard of a technique that is like layering Lilies? (I know, crazy but true) It only works with some varieties, but the stems are tied down to the ground, and as I recall, this encourages a bunch of fast-growing bulblets to form along the stem. I had better hunt down that book...
