Bottlebrush buckeye

Does anybody know if it would be okay to plant a bottlebrush buckeye in full sun in zone 8, or would it be best planted in partial shade? I have never grown any kind of buckeye before.

They do fine in full sun here in Zone 5 with supplemental water and mulch, planted against the south-facing masonry wall of the Illinois State Museum. But they seem happier in partial shade, and are really really really happy (but more leggy) in the deep woods in our ravine.

Being in Alabama, I think you should try to protect them from the worst of summer's scorching heat and drought. Same for most other American buckeye species. This one has an advantage over most in that it does not go dormant in late summer like many others. It keeps its foliage and gives a nice bright yellow fall color.

Thanks, it seems like it requires the same type of care as azaleas.
