test thread for sticky, never mind me

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I have chirita Tamania to trade...an extra plantlet...I also have tiger stripe, pink panther and strawberry path *not field* LOL I need to look at my tags more often.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Thanks Lali for all your hard work putting the stickies together for us !! Thanks Terry also :))
Now will someone please tell me why I can't type on the forum ???? I have to type on my email and copy and paste it over here ?? I know it's not my computer I can type on any other program ?? Help Please

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

That happened to me also, in fact I couldn't even load the 'bargain violet' thread. I cleared my cache for the Firefox program, quit it and then restarted, problem solved.

I'm a Mac gal though so not sure if the same would help you.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

It's working OK for me, so it may be something with your computer like begonia had, but it's probably not the DG server (unless it was cleared up just now).

A BIG THANK YOU to begonia for putting together our AV sticky and making it happen! I'll try to expand that FAQ a little this week and Dmail you some additions.... I think we've covered lots of the questions that get asked often, but we should probably add something about trading on the forum, with a link to the Trade Primer here at DG and to packing/shipping information.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

one think we could do to is scroll throught the past threads to see what are the common questions. I'm still working on the Gessie sticky links, it's pretty skimpy so far so I'll take a look through the DG archives for more on that.

I have to take Amber (Princess Amber) to the vet for a long overdue dental. She came to us with bad teeth due to neglect so she needs it done. It's not cheap, $350. We only have one vet (that I trust) in our town and he's a gem. Makes house calls too!

so i'll be back to end up the contest a bit later.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Please dmail me when ever you all have additions to the sticky.

Could use some more authoring of FAQ so if you think of any, send them along. I'll try to work on the Gessie sticky ASAP to get 'er up and running, I wanted to work on it this morning, but took advantage of the (rare) sunshine today to kayak a local estuary for about 5 hours. My arms have not forgiven me just yet. But I'll be better at typing tomorrow after I give them a rest.

I have a lot of info, just need to organize it. Hoping for more input as I know even less about other Gessies as I do AV's (help!!)

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

hi - I'm completely swamped at work and have only enough time to drop in for a couple of mins at a time.

As I mentioned before, the posts by More Water at http://www.flickr.com/groups/gesneriads/ are by me, so feel free to lift whatever you want. It's just propagation and links though.

If you want to post a draft of what you have here, I might be able to take a look and make suggestions/additions.

thanks for doing the stickys!

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Btw
Nice job with the "stickies" Laurie :)

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks!! Still have work to do, but we'll get there!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I've updated the sticky's for the week. New links include lots on Streps (Thanks Ali!) and some new AV propagation and vendors.
Enjoy!

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

wow, thanks for putting the stickys together. lots of work went into them both - thanks!!

on the gesneriad one, could you add comments next to theses two sites:

HYPERLINK@www.botanik.univie.ac.at] - taxonomy
[HYPERLINK@persoon.si.edu] - world checklist of species

both are dry academic sites but the best there are.

thanks :-)

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

both of those links are not working. Can you email them to me?

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi All, the gessie sticky has been updated, fixed the links above, added the new sinningia thread started by Keyring and added two new vendors, listed in that thread.
Check out YuccaDo they have some beautiful sinningias, (and a begonia too! hee hee hee!)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Thanks Laurie ! Your a gem :))

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

thanks :-)

I think you can delete the sections for Leaf Types, Leaf Problems, and Flower Problems from the Gesneriad sticky. Not possible to generalize for all gessies.

Also deletable: Software (none that I'm aware of) and History and Taxonomy (the taxonomy links are the ones you just updated and have listed under "other").

And I just heard about another taxonomy/academic/culture resource. The Smithsonian
Contributions to Botany series is now available on the web. http://www.sil.si.edu/smithsoniancontributions/Botany/index.cfm
There are three on Gesneria, Kohleria, and Pearcea. Search for the author Skog.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I think FC has a section for gessie, but since I can't run it on my Mac I only just recall reading this here. I'll update tomorrow or the next day, have to make the crew some dinner now so I'll try asap. Thanks for checking it out!

BTW do you have an episcia name Unpredicable Valley?

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

hey, whenever you have the time.

I don't have unpredictable valley but I thought someone here did - either UV or U Helen. I hear the markings on both are... unpredictable.....

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I've got 'Unpredictable Valley' (thanks, Sarah!), and it is still clinging to life but hasn't grown much... So I can't comment on the unpredictable markings on the foliage, as I'm not sure mine has grown any new leaves! :-(

It's in a little terrarium jar, gets plenty of bright light in the morning room, and is watered occasionally with a little AV fertilizer (very occasionally, as it stays pretty moist in the jar. I'm not sure what would make it happier. ?

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

I had a similar one and it liked more light than pretty much any gesneriad I have. It also liked warm, yes, very warm.....

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Spent the last three hours working on our AV sticky. You will see significant upgrades.
Each link has a description now and I've added over a dozen new links.

Thanks Bob for the heads up on descriptions after each link. I hope this helps everyone weed through all the info quickly and easily. As always, please send me suggestions, links, broken links, chocolate etc to my Dmail (just kidding on the chocolate, seeing if you all were paying attention hee hee hee). THATS THE BEST way for me to keep on top rather than trying to find suggestions via the threads.

Next, I'll do the same for our Gessie sticky, but have to go have some coffee now...
Good morning everyone!!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

p.s. When ever you see this thread up at the top, It will mean that I've updated the sticky. I'll try to stay on top of this so that you will all know when to look for new links etc.

I'm trying to divise a way to put a 'NEW' symbol next to new links or updates to make it easy to find the new stuff. Just haven't figured it out yet.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

THANK YOU, Lali!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

it's my pleasure.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

bumping again because I just realized that our sticky didn't have Ali's thread on Girl leaves in the FAQ area, and it's a question that comes up often enough that it should have been there! C'mon guys whip me with a wet noodle when I leave stuff out like that! LOL

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

GUESS WHAT! I might be able to get FC. DH has an old laptop that has a broken keyboard. I'm taking it in to see how much to fix it. If it's reasonable, I'll have it repaired so I can use it for FC. WOO HOO!
