Upside down stem cuttings?

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

When doing upside down stem cuttings for Cyperus - Umbrella Palm, does anyone know... do you have to do it when it's flowering or can you do it with just foliage?

Thanks!

Do it with just the foliage. I have not seen cypress flower, but I would guess that a semi-mature "head" will produce the best plants since it's not so old. You can also just divide the plant, too, but starting one of the tufts of foliage is probably easiest.
Good luck,

Thanks. I have never seen them bloom before, either, but the website I found the info on upside down stem cuttings had pictures of them blooming! So I wanted to make sure. Do you think this would work for Rhapis palm also? My office building has one and I've been thinking of snipping a piece and trying it. What do you think?

Sorry, no, it won't work on the Rhapis palm. Palms cannot be "rooted" at all. Palms MUST be grown from seed or palms can be divided, if the particular variety of palm produces offsets at the base of the plant.

aw man. it does have offsets at the base but I'm going to have to figure out how to get a trowel into work and time to dig one up without anyone seeing!!
