Anyone up for a second spring easter trade?

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Many of us missed out on the first trade.
I myself because I had not joined Dave's yet.
I would LOVE to start a second one if anyone is interested in participating!
I have quite a few leaves down and will be putting more down this week.
So if there is an interest...let me know!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I'll do a scond one Lorry

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Cool :)
Anyone else?
I am IN!
My favorites are the minis, and variegated but I love just about everything!

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

Count me in!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Cool :) that is THREE of us!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Ok since we have interest..let's work it out this way.
At least 3 plantlets and at least 2 sets of leaves *more always appreciated I am sure!*
As in the other swap..feel free to post what you like here! I am sure people would LOVE to know so they can try to match up if they can!
Ok me...well variegation is a big thing for me..and minis..I LOVE minis...But I LOVE all AVS so I am sure I will love whatever my Bunny sends me :)

Abilene, TX

I am not in the other trade, and would like to be in this one. Question: if for some reason, my violets go south, can I substute a store bought plant I have grown? I am still working on my first batch of leaves. I know there are roots now, but still have a long way to go until I actually have plants. This sounds fun. : ) hp

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

of course hun!
I am new at plantlets also...so feel free to substitute leaves.
Some people do not want NoIDs but I am sure, if they go south your bunny partner would not mind a leaf trade :)
Welcome to the swap!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Lorry why don't we ship in begin of May for this swap. Give people more time, also a distance away from other sawp. Heh it may even be warmer :))
Welcome HP

Sounds like a good idea Allison :)

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Me too, me too! I hadn't joined Dave's in time for the last one so this is great. I will put some leaves down!

How exciting. Minnies or Standards? or does it make a difference?

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

No difference April
I am partial to minis LOL...so definitely ptu some of those down! But each person has their own favorites! :)
I would say put some of your own favorites down to share!
I am sure people will post wish lists! As you all should :)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh, I'm tempted.... but with several spring trade lists already started, I'm afraid I'm going to run out of room here... Maybe Santa will bring me a big plant stand, LOL..... or a greenhouse!

I'm glad to see a second spring secret trade underway, though! I felt bad about not being able to add folks in to the secret EB trade after the deadline, but the logistics of assigning secret trade partners just didn't allow it. We definitely needed this!

Thanks, Lorry! :-)

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I totally understand critter! Lord knows I have lil leaves floating everywhere! *laugh*

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Never one to want to be left out. Y'all better count me in too! Have some new babies on their way so hopefully I'll have nice trade material!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Just about a month ago there was a girl her name is Begonia :)) She wrote : I'm hoping that no one thinks 'Don't give her to me as a trade partner' (like the kid that is last to be picked for sports) Here is my collection (don't laugh)
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/555678/
Now she potting and re-potting and has roots on leaves doing great just a couple weeks old. Evverything Begonia does is excellent !
She's a great AV Mom . I know someday she will Hybridize some gorgeous African violets and be famous for them ! Good Job Begonia. Way to awesome. I wonder how many Named AV's including named AV leaves you have growing now ????

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Sounds great Begonia! Glad to have you with us!
I don't have babies yet :( But still hoping!
I do have plenty for the swap though! I have some suckers which are growing quite nicely!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I noticed last night while I was primping and preening my babies that King's treasure has two pups starting. they are tiny, but with a bit of time I think I can do a cutting. Yea! more trade goodies!

Lorry, just be brave and do it (referring to taking crown cuttings)! I had never done it either until the bargain violets arrived. I put the crowns I cut off into a coke bottle (plastic litre kind). I just cut the bottom off and put the plant in, then cut small slits on the bottom side so I could slide the top part back on. (here's the link to the hoya forum where I learned the info) http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/558108/
Carol is a brilliant gardener, so if she does it, I'm gonna try it!

you can just take the lid off to release moisture. I had read that once you take a crown, you need to help with moisture until it has enough roots to pull moisture from the soil (may have been the long neck link back in the bargain violet thread? can't remember)

LOL! I did say that VT! Ha Ha ha.... I forgot about that! I'm like a sponge when it comes to information and learning. Once I get my mind wrapped around a subject, I exhaust resources until I feel I have a good grasp on the information. Drives my DH crazy. He says I flit from one subject to the next like a butterfly. I guess I'm just not content unless my mind is constantly stimulated....

Just with there were more hours in the day so I could read more...experiment more... grow more... Maybe I need to learn to be like Martha Stewart who supposedly only sleeps like 3-4 hours a night. She seems to be pretty energetic despite the lack of sleep!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

(laugh) I am going to give it a try Begonia.
We are lucky in FL as moist air is what we got! But I will keep an eye out..if they get wilty..I will just put a cover on them.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

You are doing so great Begonia. Your plants are growing and blooming fast, leeaves are rooting super fast WOW ! Your awesome !

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

blushing... gee thanks Ali!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Lorry, here's a nice set of photos for sucker propagation. Scroll down the photos on the left side, they are near the end.

This group of photo albums has some great shots of av and other gessies as well as a good album of common pests.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Great Link :)) Even shows the Basket babies grown on the bloom stalk. I took and potted several of them off Chimeras last week :))

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh that is very cool!
I am such a newbie and any photos of suckers helps! (Laugh) I am always scared I am cutting part of my plant out!
So I am still learning to recognize one :)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Lorry just take a pencil tip or such go to the sucker gently pop it out. It's real easy :))

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I know I "should" be using an exacto knife on suckers, but I actually have pretty good luck using my fingers to feel my way to the junction of sucker & main stem and just sort of pop it off. It generally breaks in a good place, without taking more than its share from the main plant, and it makes me less nervous than doing surgery with a blade, especially if I can't see down into the plant very well. They seem to root as well with a broken stump as with a clean cut. I can see where a pencil tip would work well on little ones -- thanks for the tip!

Sorry to continue off topic here... I'm glad to see the spring secret swap is gaining momentum!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)
