Merry Christmas everyone!

MsC

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

I wanted to do something a lil fun and thought everyone might enjoy this???
Since there are a lot of you who love animals as much as I do I thought you'd all enjoy playing.

I need a lil help picking a name for my baby Spanish Timbrado Canary a show canary breed for singing, that was orphaned recently and that's the reason I've been away a bit. I've been handfeeding it and now it is finally eating on it's own and doing well. Thank Heaven!

I have several healthy plants of named AV who have leaves that could be removed and planted for babies for the spring trade .I also have a few extra named babies that really could use a home before the Spring Trade.

So let's have a lil fun....

Here's the rules:
* You must be an active paying member of Dave's Garden & a participant in the AV forum for at least the last 30 days, I think that covers pretty much everyone & anyone:).

* I'd like a Christmas type of name for a boy or a girl, as I'm not sure of the baby's sex yet... something short preferable.

* The Winners for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be posted on Christmas Night late after my family gatherings.

1st place ~ I will offer MY choice of 5 leaves sets (2 per pack) & a plant/or plantlets combination.

2nd place~ I will offer MY choice of 3 leaves sets (2 per pack) & a plant/or plantlets combination.

3rd place ~I will offer MY choice of 2 leaves sets (2 per pack) & a plant/or plantlets combination.

I will ship after the New Year at my expense and the individual winners agreed upon date.

I think I covered everything important but let me know if I missed something:)

Any questions???

Have fun and be creative

MsC :)

Congratulations on your baby bird!

I'll let the name question rattle around in my head for a bit.... I suppose "Tweety Bird" won't cut it! LOL ;-)

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Haha... Nope, I think I named my first parakeet
'Sweety Bird' though so you aren't too far off.

See why I ask for a lil help!

It is a sweet li baby and it's already started on it's singing lessons by listening to Classical CD's and my major singer 'Fat Daddy'. If it's boy he should do very well singing songs come spring.

Here's a pic of the lil rascal...ecuse the mess they are not neat eaters..lol

OK, how about..... ANGEL!

S/He just looks so adorable, and I can imagine him/her pouring out paens of praise every morning.... And angels are very Christmas-y, the bearers of joyful tidings... "Angels We Have Heard On High".... Gloo oooo o oooo oo oooo ooor ia!!!

in Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Amarillo angel = Means yellow angel in spanish

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh, I like both of Nanna's suggestions, too..... very creative! Etoil has a certain chirping sound to the name that seems very appropriate.

I like "Feliz" too....

You're going to end up with a long list of great names to choose from! I'm sure something will seem an especially good "fit" for this little one.... what fun!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

LOL the bird may resent a french name though.
He is a lil spaniard after all!
My birds are Ringo *since the yellow collar LOVES the beatles*
and Maxx..because he thinks he is the Maxx

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Maxx's name before we bought him was the yellow cockroach though!
*laugh* so gives you warning bout them *NEEDY!*

Crossville, TN(Zone 6b)

Not Christmasy but I like the name Chipper. Linda

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

O.K. I'll throw my hat into the ring... How about EggNog

Thumbnail by begoniacrazii
Denver, CO

Or to elaporate on Begonia's: Noggin.

Rito or Rita. Could be short for the Spanish word for 'bird' (usually a songbird) "Pajarito."

If I pull from the spanish pool, there are the baby names Niño and Niña.

Pepito, Chile, Oro, Ora, Pico, Pica... A joke about eggs: Huevo /a...

Plant related apnish: Raíz, hoja....

"Nick."
Nico, Nikka...

Pip. A joke about seeds.

Or to elaborate on Nanna's 'star:' Estrella /o, Stella (referal to stars)

Or to shorten Lorry's Feliz to just 'Liz.

If he is very masculine, he could me 'masculine:' Macho.

Or from words having to do with flight: Aire, (pronounced "Eye-ray.") Vuelo...Vuela...

There is the word for Rainbow: Arco-iris. or 'Iris.'

That's all I'v got for now.

If all else fails, there is "Violet."
Kenton

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Wow!
You guys are creative!
BegoniaC that's too funny...you do know we don't eat chicken at our house...lol

Kenton you are definitely a contender!
I better make a list of whose names are whose...

Keep 'em coming we have a while to go yet...
You can add as many chances or names as you, like with in reason of course..

MsC

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

yea, we don't eat chicken either.been a veggie for over 10 yrs. (with the exception of crab/fish when it's in season)

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Ok one more suggestion though not very unisexed
Adara...it is the name of my golden conure female *the one I used to have*
it means beautiful in greek
We got it off of a baby name site :)
I just LOVED it

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

LOL..or my boss told me to tell you chicklet *which is what he calls children*
I told him I would pass his entry along :)
or you could go with my boss's suggestion of chiclet..He has an odd sense of humor :)

LOL at "Chiclet!!"

Lots of ways to go with "Angel".... Angela / Angelo, Angelita / Angelito, etc.

Actually, I thought "Egg Nog" was a GREAT name for a cute little bird!

So.... do you think this bird is going to have a sweet personality? or more fiesty?

With those bright colors, I'm also thinking along the lines of "Tinsel" or "Sparkle" or... ?

So.... do you think this bird is going to have a sweet personality? or more fiesty?

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh I like this one too..

"Tinsel" good one!

"So.... do you think this bird is going to have a sweet personality? or more fiesty?"

Well it flies around the house and follows me and you can look at it's sweet lil face in the oval pic...but then again Timbrados are fiesty lil canaries and don't take any guff from bigger birds. Sooooo we will see.

MsC

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Sugarplum
Snowball
Gumdrop
Twinkle
Noel
Nutcracker
My husband said why not just name one Christmas :))
I'll think of some more !

Mt Zion, IL(Zone 5b)

Well, "Pepita" can mean nugget...as in gold. That little birdie looks like a golden nugget to me.
So PEPITA for a girl or PEPITO for a boy?

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow you guys are so creative! Should have contacted you when I was trying to name my Igie.

How about one of the Reindeer names: Donder/Donner, Blitzen,- let's see there are 8 of them, Cupid (that's cute), Comet, Dasher, Dancer, Vixen (My 1st choice), Prancer- of course there is always Rudy, aka Rudolph.

Bénédiction: Spanish for Blessing, could be shortened to Bennie, Ben
Natale: Italian for Christmas, could be Nat for a boy or Natalie for a girl

Well those are my suggestions.

Oh, I love thinking of names for a new pet! Let's see if I can contribute anything helpful...
Elf
Jolly
Goldy (as in gold, frankensense, and myrrh)
Tinsel
That's all I can think of at the moment. Maybe more will strike me later.
Congratulations on taking such good care of your new baby!
Merry Christmas!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hark, the Herald Angel sings... Glory to the new born King!

Lorry, you've got me humming now! :-)

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Nanna

Aurora, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, dear, MsC.....you could be terribly "politically incorrect" and name the sweet thing "Christmas." I'd be a fan. =)

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)
