Coffee and...For Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005
Well, it's 12:17 so I'm going ahead and posting over here. I didn't have time to do anything but read what all y'all did yesterday. I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off.
Babs, I'm glad they were able to catch that dirty rotten for the CC theft.
Julie, it sounds like things might be lookin up a bit for you. LOL Am *real* glad to hear it.
I don't have any kids and would be afraid to hear what all my Mother would say about me and my tean years. I don't think I was real bad ... but she'd probably give you a different story. ;) We are, however, good friends now. I talk to her almost every day. What did we ever do without cell phones.
Sounds like everyone has been real busy shopping, baking and being with in laws. I did read everything but can't remember enough to comment on every post so please forgive me. Hope everyone has a good night.
Hugs&blessings ... Elaine
Elaine, forgot to tell u the other day that I have the west wall, totally bare and ready for ur artist paint roller! lol Trouble is it needs to be done tmr. lol
Fantastic on the CC thieves. DS lost his card once and by morning they had charged over $800.00 on it. Over 500.00 was to WW and they didn t even care. Also got a tape of the thief at a video store but the cops didn t even bother going to get it.. Very frustrating! DS got every penny back. The bank paid everything except 50.00 and paid that when they were done their investigating and decided that DS had told the truth.
Had a good talk with BIL and SIL and we decided to cancel the colonoscopy. I am going to have a visit with dr tmr and tell him how feeble she is. Hopefully he will just start her on an iron regimen to build her hemoglobin back up. Otherwise the test will have to be done on a Wed. and I will stay with her on Tues (day off) and help her do the prep stuff. She's 83 and has been diagnosed with mental illness in the early 90's. Her PHD doc that did the testing said he's never seen a case like her's -- she has symptoms of paranoia, bi-polar and schizophrenia all wrapped up in one! Takes an anti-psychotic that keeps her able to take care of herself, mostly. Now she's getting old age memory and other problems added to the mind issue. In some ways she's very childish, like complaining loudly how much the flu shot hurt and then she'll be quite normal a few mins later. It is so hard to know what is the best course to take.
Ernie, some of your eloquent words about takin care of the house, etc., should be printed on bill boards!! LOL
Lots to do tmr, I shud be in bed.
Morning!! Storm coming our way tomorrow-gonna shop till I drop today!! Yahoo!!
Kooger, glad you are forgetting about the colo thing. I think she (MIL or DM?) is going thru enough. Plus at that age IMHO it just is not worth it. Poor dear.
My two boys never told me much of anything (pretty typical for males), but my DIL 's tell me way tooooo much. I have kiddingly told them 'that's way to much information!!', but they continue on and on. I guess I should be thankful they think so much of me that they feel comfortable to share, but honest, I would rather not know some things!! Like my head in the sand better!!
Ernie - send the ice cream over here- yum....That new stove looks like a keeper!! We've had a 'peacock ironworks' stove for over 20 some years. Love it- it throws out a ton of heat. But I do have a lot of dust from it. But there's nothing like backing up to a roaring fire and warming your buns!
Time for my morning yogurt (still being a good girl and having NO cookies for breakfast..)
Morning Everyone!
Not much here to talk about. I hosted the cookie exchange this year for my SILs on Sunday. We really had a blast chatting and trading cookies. We each brought 4 kinds of cookies, 4 dozen of each kind so 16 dozen total. We snacked on half of them, lol, and we went through 3 pots of peppermint flavored coffee. We traded the family gossip and spent alot of time discussing MIL. We are all fed up and have all pretty much quit "doing" for her. If we can get the last set of BIL/SILs to get with the program, MAYBE we can get her out of that house and into an assisted apartment. IF she wasn't so demanding and wanting everything THIS SECOND it wouldn't be so bad, but for example, she will call Sue for something-Sue will tell her she can't come this minute but she will be down in 90 mins-so she will call me to come. The Sue and I end up down there at the same time and both of us are ticked at MIL. It's never ending.
I just went and poured cold water on Nathan's head. I've been having major problems with him getting up, and I got really frustrated yesterday. Last night I sat him down and told him the new rules, 1 warning, then he gets wet. Well, I warned him at 6:05, now it is 6:30 so he got doused. Big glass too, lol, right in his ear! Wonder how many days it will take. ROFLMBO, he is up, surly as all heck! Heh heh heh, mess with Momma will ya?
Anyway, I will be posting a thread here in Parking Lot, please stop over and read it, if you can help, that is great, if not, that's ok too. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/562360/

Hi there
I'm here for my one gulp of scalding coffee before I jump up mid sentence and run to the next thing.
Remember how a couple days ago I cleaned my house? (well, no, because it was only a historic event to me, not to regular folks), Well my appliances all seemed to die of shock! It turns out I need both a new washer and dryer. Bearings are shot on the dryer and tub on the washer. So no laundry till the new ones get here. Guess what i'm getting for Christmas!!
I haven't started cookies, candies, or the tree. So I guess I'm running a little behind.
mg ~ watching for your thread. My kids (14 and 16) have been a trial this week. Nuff said.
sarv ~ I gotta shop too today, maybe I'll see you in the checkout line
If I get time I'll check out the rest of yesterday's thread. I want to see the stove. I love old stoves!!
Babs my hat is off to you for what you do believe me you have job security I will never attempt to take your job lol if I had my way about all this I would bring her to you and you would take out your med taser and wave it over her and poof all done lol. CC stuff that you experienced is just why I refuse to get a debit card I figure a debit card gives instant access to my bank account and real funds and a CC at least if burgled has some recourse,
Laura well I do not like being queen for the month I would rather be berated and snarled at and accused of being a slob than clean my own mess. Besides now a friend at work has announced me gay at work because I told him of the pineapple sause I made for the ham the other day. I tried to find a recipe then just winged it ha ha I used a can of pineapple slices juice and all ,added orange juice, minced red onion and red sweet peppers . Then I put it on rice and the ham and put fresh green aspargas spears on the plate and it did look kinda xmas like. Lol when I told him that he said I have know it for years honey you are gay . Linda are it and did not call me that ha ha . He is a no cooking bachlor that I take lasauna to or enchilads from time to time for him and his two 200 plus pound boys and he never calls me names then ha ha .
Off to work have a good day all Ernie
Well, hope everyone has a productive day. And you shoppers, please wear comfortable shoes, don't want no complaining tonight about sore feet!! I have several things to do today, so have to get busy. The first thing is to go out and dig a trench to "heel in" some tiny trees I received yesterday for the Arbor Day Foundation. Got 10, all about a foot tall. Then on to DM's to use her sewing machine to finish the throw for DGD. After that, don't know, what ever gets in my way.
Teens----Sure glad that stage of my life is over. Only have 1 son, and he put every gray hair I have on my head. It was always something. He was very hyper when young, and tried all sorts of stunts.
Ernie, just because you cook, don't make you gay!! I applaud your efforts. It is tough taking care of someone, and then throw in all the everyday stuff. Hang in there, Linda will be back before long.
Well, not going to comment on every one's post, got to get outdoor garb on and "get R done"
Elaine, are you going to go help paint today? Just keep the roller on the wall!!
Will check in later.
dmcdevitt - washer and dryer for Christmas - that sucks! LOL I'm sure you'll enjoy new and reliable ones though.
I skipped Aquafit this am to try to tackle some of the clutter in my life. Started out by bringing my bank account spread sheets up to date. Next up is my desk downstairs which has become a total horizontal filing cabinet. Can't even think about the bulk of the Christmas decorations until I clear a bit of space. Counting the weeks till FC retirement. That should help me unload one big pile of paperwork.
Might even get out to a store or two before my students come this afternoon.
Ann
Hi all
Gosh y'all make me tired with all your talk of shopping, cleaning , baking and panting.! LOL
Kooger, just hang in there. I'll sure come and help you get that wall done. You might regret it, though. the DH let me paint a screen door once. He had it laying on his sawhorses. Never has let me forget it. LOL Said I had more paint on them and myself than the door. :) He's one of those nifty guys that always lets me do anything I want ... except drive his truck! I've driven the lawn mower around and around the front yard, gone on top of the house to take a look around and all sorts of things ... but he won't let me drive his truck! LOL Am glad you've decided to cancel that colonoscopy for your MIL. It really does sound like it would be a lot for her to go through with at her age.
Sarv, pass me a yogurt again this morning. I was in WM yesterday and forgot to pick me up some. If I don't put it on the list ... it doesn't get purchased.
Defoe, sounds like you'll be busy with that sewing and planting those trees. Don't freeze out there, OK?
Ernie, it sounds like you're a jewel to me. LOL Linda is *very* lucky to have you to take care of her while she's down. I think your ham and sauce along with the asparagus sounds yummy.
Ann, I must say ... your desk sounds a bit like the DH's. I'm sure it really isn't, though. I know you're looking forward to retiring. :)
DMC, I must confess that I really wouldn't mind getting a new washer and dryer for Christmas. Last year I got a side by side refrigerator. Boy do I ever love the thing. We've been married 31 years and that's the first brand new refrigerator I've ever had. There's always been one in the houses so I've never gotten to pick out my very own. Lowes had that 12 month same as cash deal. I really like it.
MG, all those cookies sure sound good. It's a good thing you don't live close to me. That would be way too tempting. LOL
Well, Darius told me she would either stop by or at least give me a call when she passes through GA so I can post for her. It will depend on what kind of time she makes. Will let y'all know when/if I hear anything.
Got to get up from here. To those who haven't checked in yet ... morning and don't work too hard.
Hugs ... Elaine
Ernie, I think you've stepped up to the plate admirably! The pineapple sauce sounds yummy - course I love pinapple. hee hee. DH managed pancakes and frozen pizzas and dinners when I had kids(all c-sec) and another surgery. We always had some brought in meals tho and that's wonderful too! Next fall I will probably have long overdue abdominal repair done (mostly cuz of former surgeries, and basically falling apart- lol) and you are very welcome to cook and clean here!!!!!! :)
IO1 - did u read that story about the blind college guy who drove home from the party? can't remember who posted it - but that came to mind when u mentioned ur hubby not letting u drive the truck. I think he shud take u to a big ole open area and let u DRIVE!! It'd be fun - he might get a few more gray hairs rather quickly! and I ll check every couple of hours to see where our dear darius is - praying for safety!!
Oh, Ernie, forgot to mention, if your debit card is a mastercard or visa, has same protections as a credit card. That's why DS got every penny back that was charged. He got everything but the $50 that the bank withheld, in a few days from the card company and it was about 3 weeks later, after he had gone in and verified all the checks and withdrawals he had made, that he got the last $50. Still stinks that the cops wouldn t go after the guy tho.
Kooger, I've heard of a lot of stories about blind people driving ... and I have done that with a friend of mind car. We went to the local high school's driving range. Had a blast! It's been several years ago now. I'm not sure if you know this or not, but my DH has only been driving for not quite 3 years. He's still a little protective of his "baby". He named it Henry. Can you believe that? LOL Maybe Ernie can explain what it is with men naming things? LOL Maybe not! hehehe Oh well, I will have to tell you my DH's miracle story sometime. It would take way too long here ... plus I might be repeating myself as I get so excited when I talk about it I forget who I've told.
Anyway, I'm finishing up with the vacuuming today. I have a cedar chest in my office that was my Grandma's I always put a white sheet over it ... place a small Christmas tree skirt over that and put a little Christmas tree on top. Well, I got too close and vacuumed up the corner of the sheet ... thus toppling over the tree and wrecking the entire thing. I *really* wanted to say a few choice words so I'll just add a few $$$ to make me feel better instead. LOL Got all that cleaned up and decided I needed a coffee break. Guess I better get back at it. Still got the bathrooms to clean and then I'll be through!
... Elaine
Never mind

IO1 - I'm not male but I name *everything*! I'm not sure just when I started that practice or what got me going, but I do have fun with it (my truck is Li'l Red). Dh and I live in the "Briarpatch" (as in - please don't throw me in... from Uncle Remus), and the other property we own is "Cedarbreeze" from the sound of the wind blowing throught the cedars.
Please share the DH story, if not here, then start another thread - I'm intrigued and would love to hear it!
Beware of vaccum cleaners - they will suck up *anything*!! When I worked at a vet clinic, we were preping a feret for surgery and almost lost it, tail first, up the vaccuum hose!!
tgif ... that's toooo funny! LOL I've sucked up a lot of weird things ... but never anything alive! My poor dog doesn't think too much of the vacuum, though. She's like Elvis ... Kota has left the building! LOL
Hmmm, okay I'll see if it's breaking copywrite laws to reprint an article that was in a local paper when it's about you. Does anyone know the answer to this? Do I have to get permission from the paper and from admin?
MG, am glad that's being taken care of. Hugs to you.
Well, I still haven't heard a peep out of Darius. She might be traveling slow with that U hall behind her.
... Elaine
Elaine, she SAID she was going to go the 45 mph that was recommended.....Now if I was driving............
Hap
Well between Sarv and me we did a blitzkrieg shopping attack today and I am officially **done**. Since we expect a big snow storm tomorrow, that will give me a day to start wrapping, and cleaning up the house which looks like a tornado passed through. Went to Linens and things and they had a half price sale on a 6 1/2 qt. stainless steel pot, so I bought it for me. Merry Christmas. Oh, wait, I bought those blue willow dishes for me, didn't I??....Oh, too bad, I've been very very very good this year. Mostly.
Ernie that stove looks great, I would prefer one like that to our fireplace, which lets cold air in, so I sealed it all up this year when I got our first heat bill. I think it's because it has one of those fan systems that circulates the heat when the doors are closed. There are pipes inside the fireplace, and even with the glass doors closed, the cold air inside the firebox circulates back inside through those pipes. Stupid design. We don't use it in winter anyway, just on cool fall nights when we don't turn the heat on.
Ernie, I guess you now have a real good idea of what it takes to keep a household going, so much of that kind of work is under- appreciated. If I had to depend on my DH to handle the cooking, we'd be living on pizza bread and water.
Sarv, good girl, yogurt for breakfast. I had zip. Wanted to get on the road early so I just skipped it and stopped for lunch at the pie place, and had a bowl of soup, and a roll and..........a piece of pie!! Brought the salad home for dinner. To go with the leftover chili from whenever it was that I made it last. And in spite of shoes with orthotics in them, my feet are tired!!
Dcat, all my shoes are walkers, unless I can get my supports into them, they don't get worn. In fact, I just threw about 12 pairs of good shoes in the Goodwill because they were getting dusty from not being worn for two years. Easy Spirits, etc. What a waste, but someone will get some use out of them.
dmcd, washer and dryer for Christmas. Be still my heart. LOL I know it's nice to have new ones, but it's kinda awful! How inconsiderate of them to die just before Christmas. Appliances have absolutely no sense of timing. Last year my range went haywire just before Thanksgiving!!!
Hope everyone had a good day, and if you feel over whelmed, remember I had five teenagers in my house at one time, and I'm still alive and, I was going to say sane, but y'all know better.
Gonna go check my Ebay watch list. Still looking for salad/dessert plates and then I'm gonna quit. Really. I am. Rearranged the kitchen cupboard this morning and filled a box with seldom used mugs and glasses, so I have some extra space for them. See you before bedtime.
Edited for speeling and gramur and punksheashun.

Is anyone besides myself, having trouble with DG? I tried to go to Home and I got a message that they could not find DG.....? Waited a while and then it came one. Now I'm having trouble going from thread to thread. UGH.....
Sounds like everyone is busy with their shopping and baking. As always, I 'm behind on both. Going to hit a couple stores after dinner tonight and going to an outlet mall tomorrow with Sis. Hopefully between the 2 I can finish up the shopping. We are supposed to get bad weather on thursday so I will probably leave work early and come home and wrap.
The credit card thing is scary. I hardly ever take cash when I go to the mall. BIL had his business card info stolen and used at a gas station in FL.
Need to get my hiney moving and clean up a little before dinner and then off to the stores. I have been reading all the posts but havn't had much time to do more than that. Have a good evening.
Hap, it was very slow to load for me tonight.
What do you mean.......he doesn't have it done??????? Boy, oh, Boy......Darn...
tgif.....Are these all new? My mother had a set when I was growing up.
Hap
Elaine, you wrote
Ann, I must say ... your desk sounds a bit like the DH's. I'm sure it really isn't, though. I know you're looking forward to retiring. :)
I'd take a picture but I got it mostly cleaned off today. That is, until I cleaned off the DR table onto my desk. LOL
I can relate to your joy in picking out your own refrigerator, having just replaced one I hated for 14 years.
m5 - the pot sounds great. And so you did buy the dishes too. You deserve them don't you?
Who else buys themselves Christmas gifts?
My second student this evening has cancelled their lesson. I'm gonna hit the $ store and then a mall for awhile. And then maybe Chapters Bookstore which is open late. I don't have a LOT to buy. My kids want money. My daughter said books and/or clothes for grandkids. They will get way too many toys from the other side of the family. We usually make a sizeable contribution to their education funds or buy them savings bonds.
TTYL
Ann
tgif - great dishes. My late mother would have loved the blue.
Ann
I have gotten the whole set over the years (1986-2005) from several different grocery stores that featured the pattern. Some are Churchill, some Johnson Bros, some "made in China". But the pattern matches so I don't really care about what it says on the bottom! I do have a few *old* pieces that are display only, but mostly just eveyday settings.
Ann - around here I'm known as the "cobalt and cast iron kid".
tgif, yours look great!! All the ones I have are Churchill pottery, not china. Go in the micro, dishwasher, no problem. I had several pieces I got in the 80s from a grocery chain here but they discontinued them before I got past 4 plates, 4 soups, 4 cereals and some serving pieces. Always wanted more, so now I'm up to 12 plates, 9 cereals, 9 soups, cake plate, vegetable bowls gravy boat. I use them daily, not saving them for posterity. They have held up very well. I'm thinking I should put glass doors on the cupboard!!!
This message was edited Dec 13, 2005 6:44 PM
When I first got started on the blue willow pattern, I also found a cobalt blue set of glasses and salad bowls at Wally World which go nicely with the willow. I also have a few pieces of "blue onion" pattern corelle that will mix in if needed. I would love to get the onion pattern filled out to use more often for the informal/lunch type meals. It seems to be as expensive as the chinaware, so, like you , a piece here, two pieces there! I recommend the glass door on the cupboard and frequent use of your china. If you liked it enough to buy it, why not use it?! I don't use a lot of it on a day to day basis so the glass door keeps the cleaning to a minimum.
I hope all of you have a secure knot tied in your rope, and things get better for those caught in the bind, or have the galluping gulliwumps, and for those of you sitting on top of the world, may you enjoy the view!
love ya all
ginni
Oh today's thread has been amusing!! My knot's tied good, ginni!!
Lots of shopping and I DIDN'T buy anything for myself, although 3/4 of what I looked at would hve been just what I wanted! That's why I don't shop except at Christmas when I really have to . I can't believe some of the stuff out there!!
m5 I really did "LOL" on your finding the perfect gifts for you. I always said that's the way to get what you want...
About the washer and dryer for Christmas ~ Guess what everyone else is getting???(Do i hear "clean clothes"???) Actually, it's fine. I just thought it was funny my appliances died of shock. Yeah, the timing could be better.
Now, we know the oven always dies on Thanksgiving when the turkey's in, and the septic always backs up on a holiday when we have company. SO I'm counting my blessings so far.
dmc - I could work with the oven going out, while the turkey was still in, but the septic going walkabout? - well try telling a city raised 16 year old girl/lady that "its" behind the second tree on the left!
tgif, I have a bunch of my DFIL's blue onion corelle ware that I don't have any use for. It is yours if you would like it. There are plates in 3 sizes, cereal bowls, a platter, vegetable bowl, smaller bowls and some saucers. I will double check with DH but he knows I will never use them. He said go for it, would need shipping that is all. I think on average there are 4-6 of each.
My downfall is Cole pottery in the rich country blue. I inherited them from my DMIL and use them every day and it shows. I remember to check once and a while on ebay for more but they are pricey there. I had a large 18" platter that was on top of my fridge with the water pitcher in front of it and one day the platter rolled right out of the plate stand on to the floor. Broke the sucker right in half, then sat down on the floor and cried. It chipped along the break so that I know there was no gluing. At least I had been using it from time to time. To often I would break something taking it out of the china closet to clean it. Now that is a shame.
Joy
Hey y'all. Heard from Darius around 8:00. She's at Molly's ... safe and sound. Said she'd be there tomorrow and would be going on to her sister's probably the next day. She'll have internet then and will check in.
We can't get the software for the Scanacan to load, so I have an email in and phone call to the company. Keep getting an error, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow for them to help. :-( I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. You know how tempermental computers can be! LOL
... Elaine
I have been out of the loop for a few days but usually try to read all the posts but I have not seen Maria's name anywhere. I hope she is OK and that I just missed her post. ((((Maria))))
Great news about Darius, rest well dear friend.
M'5, I too used to collect blue willow and now I have pieces stashed all over the house. I will keep you in mind as I find it.
Not sure what thread was talking about Christmas tension, but I can feel it in the air here. I just want to ???? But then I'm no prize and keep my mouth closed. DH is working a 3-11 pm tonight because he is on light duty and must take the available shifts, can I say I LOVE MY EVENING. Grumpy 19 year old son has gone to bed and mmm mmm mmm I do enjoy being alone! Son is a pretty good kid but soo grumpy, but then the apple didn't fall far from the paternal tree. I think it goes back generations.
Do miss my daughter, she has been gone 6 years now and only see her when we fly her home. Took off to the Virgin Islands like she would be back in 2 weeks. Absolutely ripped my heart out and stomped it in to the ground. Every time I think I am over it, I know my heart is still there cause it hurts so much. Sorry, best be finding something to occupy my mind, only 2 hours before DH is home.
Joy
Maria whoohoo where are you and Samson???
Dropping in - hope all is well with everyone.
MG tried your thread link it did not work???
Anne
Evening all. Busy day re-arranging the living room while DW was at work. Will no doubt have to move it back tomorrow, but she will help. Did the last of my shopping today on the telephone. Actually it was the only holiday I did.DW wants some good luggage for her trips so all that needs is some cash in a christmas card. I wouldn't presume to pick out suitable pieces for her.My idea of packing for a "trip" is stuffing a couple things in a plastic bag. The phone call went to a local smokehouse that does fantastic salmon and meats. Dearest friend in Calif. entertains a lot over the holidays so a 2# hunk of smoked salmon will be welcome. The custard part of my first attempt at egg nog is chilling and the whipped egg whites and cream will be added shortly, but then there's the Rum & Brandy necessary to make sure the bugs are pickled first.
Happy holidays, and don't forget the Oreos.
Hi all,
Can't stay too long so please forgive me. Got to get back to my scanning LOL . We got everything working and it's absolutely wonderful. I'm sorry to be talking about myself so much ... but really I'm talking about DG cause I'd never have this without DG. You just can't believe this equipment. I'm reading my canned goods out of the cabinet. LOL :)
Hugs to everyone ... Elaine
