Here's the Daily!

Busy day, got home late so here's what happened on the attendance points issue.

I was so upset, disallusioned, etc. more than angry, yesterday afternoon. I came down to the break room at 2 15 and a few others were there so we were discussing the whole issue. They all sympathized with me but were not surprised. Apparently last year a gal who had a seizure on the floor, taken out on a stretcher, got attendance point, no 90 min. notice, ya know! Have u ever heard of anything so absurd?

Anyway, I was pretty riled up, and had company there stoking the fire, and in walks a TL (team leader/supervisor) not mine but one of 7. I said sarcastically, oh better shut up, there comes a TL, well, she heard me, came right over and told me that it bothers her to hear people say that and cld she help at all? I apologized, said it was not directed at her personally, just frustration with the attendance system. Asked who made the point decisions and who I had to talk to about it. Center manager, make an appt.Okey, dokey, said I wld do so tmr -Thurs, now today.

He had no interpreter (he's deaf) until 10:30, my lunch break was at 11 and he had a mtg at 1 so I figured I'd stop in at 11:30 and state my position. Did that, his door was closed, meaning busy. So no go. Secretary said to try after the mtg, about 2:30. Ok, back to work I go. Shortly after that, my TL pokes me in the shoulder as he's walking by and says, hey, ur point got waived. Boy, I was torqued all over again! I did not get to say my piece, about this and the weather points either! grrrrrrrrr! LOL!

A gal a work had given out free tickets to a Christmas Living Tree Pageant at a church in Sioux Falls. DH came up and went with us all to it. The last part of the play was 'forgiveness' and afterwards we were all visiting, others were asking about the outcome of the mtg and one gal laughed and pointed out that I better go with the 'forgiveness' aspect and get over it. Ha Ha! She has a point but I do plan on mentioning it on the opinion survey we have to fill out before the 12th. The point was not the issue really, it was much more the morality and duty I was upset about. Caring for our fellow man.... so no big punch to the end of this tale, so sorry all....... could have been a goody! LOL

And the program was wonderful, we're going again on Sat. evening!

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Sheila, love that Christmas catus and the pot that it matches.
Darius, keep going, almost there packing and moving.
Kooger, you have a place to work, I will say that. I am really surprised on how they have responded to weather issues but am not surprised about it. It is the govenment more or less.

Well, won't be around the next couple days. Am heading down to the Oregon coast to watch my son wrestle in a tournament. A 3 hrs drive, yuck! But is his last year in hs so much go.
Am stopping at Territorial Seeds on the way down. Does anyone need anything from them? They have a tiny store where they sell their seeds instead of paying shipping. I love their seeds. They germinate so well. Look at the Garden Watchdog about them.

Well, must get packed and go to bed.
Everyone have a good couple days and stay out of trouble, LOL.

Later, Carol (DR)(the even one, I guess, hehe)

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

YES, YES, YES, YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiippppppppppppppppppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sooooooooooooooooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He got in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My older son got accepted to OHSU, Portland, Oregon, dental school, starting in fall 2006!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so happy that I can't sleep now.

He just called me on the phone (which he never does unless he needs or wants to tell me something since I can't hear on the phone very well) at 12 midnight saying that he received an e-mail from them saying he was accepted.

Oh, I just had to tell all you guys after e-mailing my family all about this!!!!!!!

Ok, enough bragging!!! But he is really a very good, smart kid and he has and will keep doing very well in life.

Nite again, all,
Thanks for listening to me!!!

Carol (DR)

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Congrats Carol and by way we have to listen we have no choice you are screaming lol.

Me thinks cheaper to pay shipping than for me to drive to the store lol

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Wonderful news, Carol, congratulation , I'd be yelling too

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

DR ~ Congratulations on your son!!

Ann ~ Beautiful CC. Is there a CC contest anywhere? Should be. What a lift this (snowy gray) time of year. Good luck on your concert.

Kelly ~ I DID, I did clean all day. First I burned up the belt in the vacuum, started smoking and smelling horrid, and I was afraid it would burst into flames. There was so stuff wrapped around the beater brush I guess, So asked DH to trouble shoot when he had time so I could keep going on laundry. Did all the bedding, and the dryer started banging something horrible (belt?) . Since it wasn't smoking, I kept going until I noticed water under the washer (thankfully last load of bedding), yanked the washed out, appeared to be leaking , added it to the DH troubleshoot list. Luckily the vacuum was fixed by then. I am VERY high maintenance when I clean!!

Now I'm making a denim bedspread. Dogs like to go on the bed, and they rip up the comforters, so it's very dense denim for me. More like a dropcloth I guess.

kooger ~ been following your tribulations. Hope you get some resolve

sylvia ~ prayers still coming for your brother

m5 ~ I was all inspired by your plans yesterday, wishing I had raspberries to make jam. Next year I'll plan ahead.

defoecat~ how are things looking today? sometimes the black hole is like a booby trap, it's just there. I hope things are looking up.

mg, McCool, darius, and all who are having pain, feel better!

Who's getting snowed in? We have a "snow emergency" with schools closed, only 2 inches so far. What wusses we've become!! When I was a kid we didn't freak out until it was over 18 inches (and it was uphill to school both ways, of course)

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning,

Slept really well and right through the 7 am news.

Defoe- hope you have a better day today than yesterday and wish you strength for your travel and the funeral.

M5 - I never heard of a C-cactus with more than one color of bloom. That must be one interesting plant.

kooger - glad the point was waived. Maybe it's just as well you didn't get your say this time if you were riled up, but is there any way you can all band together for the future? If you have a survey, that might help. Try to get everyone to mention the points system.

DR - great news about your son's acceptance. Congratulations.

Thanks to those who said to "break a leg".

gotta go now. Going to work for a couple of hours first before we gather at the church for the bells.

Have a good day, everyone.

Ann

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Oh yeah, dmcdevitt - it's snowing here - probably same system you've got and I better call my group and suggest they arrive a bit early.

Ann

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Snowing here this morning. So far we have about 4-5 inches and its still coming down pretty heavy. We'll see in a couple of hours if I go into work. Right now the road here hasn't been touched. SIL who lives about 40 miles south has just ice. I'd rather have the snow.

DR - Congrats on your son! That is such great news.

ViolaAnn - Best wishes for today!

Going to get a shower and maybe mix up some cookie dough before I need to think about going out.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Carol, fabulous news, he'll be close enough to home to bring his laundry for you!!! LOL ( jk) All kidding aside, that's such good news after that long suspenseful wait! Bet he's happy!

Looked outside and we didn't get much snow at all. Weather geeks wrong again. Shoot, I could be a weatherperson. Look out the window. "It's raining folks." Go stand on the deck. "It's hot today" Hold my hand out the car window, "It's raining!!"

Got the humidifier out this morning. It's a Holmes, and we like it because it doesn't leave white residue on everything. Too bad. It doesn't work anymore. The little rubber gaskets that let the water dribble into the tray have dried up and now the water just dribbles continuously, which means it will all end up on the floor. Just perfect. Oh well, we had it for five years, which comes to about $12 a season, so I guess we can just replace it. Hope I can find the same one because I have spare wick thingies. (they suck up the water so the fan can disperse it. ) Always something!!!

Got a package from my sis yesterday, we had agreed last year not to exchange Christmas gifts anymore, because we don't really need more "stuff". She put a note in saying this was my non-Christmas present. I guess goofiness is heriditary.

Hi Ernie, where ya been? Playing with those gorgeous puppies I suppose, and putting up lights and decorations?

Maria, are you snowed in? Bet Samson is having fun with it. Howard, (DS's recent acquired Golden for those of you who are new here) runs out in the yard, put his nose to the ground and snowplows his way all around the yard! DIL says he jumps around like a puppy, and he's 7 years old! They are having a lot of fun with him and the cats no longer hiss and spit when he gets near. Pretty soon they will be beating him up. It's too bad they can't figure out he loves cats, was raised with them.

Carol (DR) Territorial seeds, don't tempt me...I did major seed saving this year and have bags all over the dinette to make sure they are good and dry before I store them elsewhere. They should be good and dry ...it's like the Sahara in here.

Kooger, I'm glad they deducted the points for you but they certainly made an effort to avoid a dialogue on it because they knew they were WRONG! The larger the organization, the more ridiculous rules they have. And make any negative comments on those evaluation forms very anonymous and nonspecific, because they will come back to haunt you. We used to get surveys like that all the time, supposedly anonymous, but I put mine under a black light at home once and saw they had put an invisible coding on it. Nice.
I became very discreet in my comments...LOL Ever after!!

That's it. I'm going to get busy before I slide back into sloth mode.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Morning, Suzie, we posted at the same time. Hope you get a stay home day out of the snow. I don't mind driving in it. I just mind the other drivers who don't have a clue as to how!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Late checking in this morning. Had SNOW all night and over 270 schools are closed. I had planned on going for lunch/tour of an old historic home a ways away, but got a call from DS saying DGS didn't have school and did I remember I volunteered to sit for him! GRRR - I did say that and DO remember those awful days of trying to find a sitter, so my trip is off and DGS is here! He's a treasure, so no problem, except finking out on the trip with my friends. Oh well...family comes first in my book!!

That christmas cactus is gorgeous. I buy one every couple of years as I cannot keep them alive- I think I water them too much. I do have one I just got that was loaded with buds, but they promptly all dropped as soon as I got it home.

Mary, if I did all the work you did, I would be a twig. I will go sledding with DGS today. Usually I make it down the hill, but can't get my hinny out of the sled!! Not a pleasant sight - believe me!!

Gotta boogie- he wants to play a game.....I told him he has to vacuum this afternoon!!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Morning all. Been up for ages, drinking coffee. Since it was snowing last night, didn't put the garbage out, so first thing this morning, trudged out to do that. I am feeling better today, so far. Don't want to make long range forecast about that, as it is subject to change.

DR, your screaming about your son woke me up. I joined in, did you hear?

Christmas Cacti refuse to come to my house. They know that their little lives would be in jeopardy. But that sure is a pretty one.

For those of you who have aches, pains, colds, etc. hope you feel better today.

I am not ignoring anybody, but am not commenting on each post. I promise I will try to stay up to date better today.

I am going to DM this morning to borrow her sewing machine, and try to finish the throw for DGD. So better get the after parts moving.

Thanks to all of you for your kind comments, I want you know how much I appreciate it. I know no one can really do anything about the funk, but me, but knowing you care helps.

Later.

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

I'm going to sew today too dcat. I'll compare notes tonight! Watch my sewing machine go up in smoke!!

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Hi all, didn't mean to wake everyone up. Sorry. Still am so excited. Didn't hardly sleep at all last nite.
Dcat, Maria, dmc, M5, suzi, eweed, and Ann, thanks for your comments. They mean so much!

Sheila, let me know what you have for seeds maybe. Maybe we can trade dahlia tubers for some seeds. D-mail me what you got, please.
If anyone out there has some Peruvian lilies-Alstromeria seeds, just let me know. I really really want to grow some more of these.

Sarv, keep your snow back east please. Don't want any right now. Too much going on here in Oregon that I don't want to drive in it.

dmc, that denim bedspread sounds very nice.
dcat, how is the throw going. I always envy people who sew good. My mother sewed all my clothes when I was a kid but I can sew but do not like to.

Well, need to get going driving 3 hrs so later in a few days. Take care all.

Carol (DR)

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Going to head into work in about a half hour. All the bad drivers should be at their destination or decided to stay home. LOL I don't mind driving in the snow, but when I see the people that drive by my house, I feel safer staying in a little longer. People think that just because they have an SUV they can drive like the roads are clear.

Will try to get out a little early as well so I can go pick up DGS. He will be alot of fun playing in the snow this weekend.

Sarv - Sorry your plans were cancelled, but sounds like you will have a great day anyway with your DGS.

have a good day all, check in later.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

DR ~ Congratulations for the Tooth Boy!

ViolaAnn, got your MO for Elaine's Dream. BIG Thanks! Because of the generosity of DGers, we've been able to add a few extra goodies to the list.

DCM, Dcat... my mother was a dressmaker so I never really learned to sew. When I had to take Clothing in high school Home Ec to graduate, I made a nifty baby blue cordouroy suit with a Channel style jacket. Mother stopped sewing for me then, and so did I! In later years I paid her to make my dress clothing as I have broad shoulders and no hips or fanny so off the rack stuff doesn't fit. Good thing now that I wear just jeans (or shorts) and tee shirts! And I buy those by the dozen so it looks like I have just one set of clothes, LOL.

Sarv, I cannot imagine sledding at my age. Not only couldn't I get out of the sled, I'd probably break a leg in the process, LOL.

The snow and ice storm of yesterday missed me by a scant few miles!

Talked to MollyMc last night. She still has no power, water or septic, but hopes to have the Health Dept. re-inspection by Monday (a connection on the septic tank failed inspection), and then the Bldg. Inspection follows and THEN the power lines can come in. I doubt she'll have it done by the time I get there next Wednesday so I'll just camp out with them in the dark and cold, and sleep on the floor!

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Hello, strangers!!!

I can't seem to understand the concept of "Watch Thread" anymore, so I have missed days and days of "Coffee" here in the "Parking Lot."

I hope you are all well (there is absolutely no way I can catch up on all I have missed!), and live has been kind.

I will be cleaning like a mad woman today, tomorrow, the next, etc., etc., but I will try to keep connected.

Take care,
Jody

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Ok back - DIL dropped off DGS and she could hardly make it out of our driveway. We have a steep incline to get onto the road and she got stuck in the deep snow, then slid sideways. I was fearful she would end up in the ditch - but she JUST made it! Whew...

DR - I forgot to add my congrads!!!!!!!!! I am so happy for you - both . What a nice Christmas present for both of you!! Bet his smile is wider than than the Mississippi river. So nice when things work out!!

Poor Molly = still no power- bet that is getting old for her. Darius, when you get there maybe things will look up for her. Don't know about that sleeping in the floor tho= sounds hard to me!!! Take along some long johns for warmth!

I found that since I am no longer working, my clothes are very blaaaah. Blue jeans and turtle neck with a fleece in the winter, shorts and tank top in the summer. Sure don't spend much $$ on clothes anymore. But I should pitch of bunch of them - they look like rags!

I used to sew everything - even all the kids clothes. But I found that I had too many failures with my own and it is just easier to buy them for me. I still love to go in fabric stores tho!

Trip to the old mansion was cancelled anyway (gal didn't want to drive) so I am not missing anything- hooray.

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

darius, I buy Lee jeans on sale, and I get about six turtlenecks a year, two pairs of sneakers (dress up ones and garden ones)When the garden ones rot, I replace the dressups and the old ones go to the garden.

I always look like I'm wearing the same thing but fortunately my only fashion sense any more is really smell - I try not to smell bad!! (and even that can be a challenge with horses!)

(Zone 8b)

Carol - the other one!!! LOL Whoopee!!! So glad your boy has had good news. I think we get more of a kick or fret from our kids ups and downs than we do from our own! As a dentist he's never going to be unemployed anywhere in the world he chooses to be, so that is bound to be a source of comfort too!

Dkat, Chin up there girl. if you can keep your eyes above the rim of that black hole, you can get your head to ignore it! Mental picture is quite good!!! LOL Glad today is better and remember we are all here to hold out a hand to keep you afloat, or help you out as strength allows.

Mental picture of Sarv with sleigh stuck on butt is quite good too!! My mind is being wicked this morning so I must finally be getting better!!! LOL

Mental picture of me in a similar position has just popped up - but this one is a real memory, and it wasn't a sleigh it was a carver chair, lunch with a friend in an English Pub - stood up to leave the table and the chair came too! Embarrassing or what!!!! ROFLMBO - only it didn't if you get me!!

Poor Molly must be frozen stiff, You have to be young and tough to enjoy camping out under those conditions. I know she has a genny but still,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I hope the cold won't set your chest off Darius! Have you had the Radon result yet?

Thought I had all my Christmas stuff done, then remembered I haven't even thought about a DH present !!! Its been so hectic sorting out stuff for everyone else, and being retired is like being joined at the hip - hes always with me - I shall have to leave him with DS to watch football on Sunday and sneak out alone.

Need to put an "extra" cheque in the post for my middle one too. Her sister tells me she is struggling to cover her Christmas expenses because her rat of an ex has defaulted on his maintenance for the kids - says he is pushed over the season - well what does he think his family is then!!!!!!!! One of those men who needs his zip stappled up - has 3 other kids - different mothers, around the same age as the two born in wedlock to my DD. Actually rethinking I think amputation is the solution!!! Mrs Bobbitt had it right!
Perhaps our two nice GOB guys Robert and Ernie can explain why some guys behave like that???? My Dh can't - he is with me and Mrs Bobbitt!

Gripe over

Now house work is calling the dust isn't bunnies its elephants! They have transmogrified (??) which is what happens when I try and ignore them. So had better get my elephant gun and the vacuum out for the first time in two weeks.

The odd one

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Hey, Sarv and The Odd one (Carol, lol), thanks for your wishes. Yes, now I can have free dental work the rest of my life, yeah!!!
Hope you, Darius and Molly stay warm in that mobile home. Have a few bon fires to stay warm then out in the garden area. Would be a way to get rid of the slash.
Geez, need to go take a shower and hit the road.
Later,

Hi all!
Gosh, there's so much to comment on this morning. First of all let me add my congrats to you, Carol about your DS. That's just wonderful that he's been accepted to dental school. Hmmm, what time did you say you got that phone call? I woke up around 3:00 and couldn't go back to sleep. Bet that was you yelling! LOL

M5, loved what you said about the weather man. Use to always tease and say I could be a weather girl. I'd just send the dog out. If she came back with a warm coat ... the sun was shining. If she came back wet ... it was raining. If she didn't come back ... it was windy. LOL :)

Defoe, you've been on my mind a lot. Please take care of yourself and know you have friends praying for you. Special hugs go out to you.

Ann, I'm sitting here thinking about you right now. When you go back and read this just want you to know you're being wished a wonderful performance. I know the concert will be a great success.

Kooger, so glad to hear you got your work situation taken care of. Maybe it's a good thing you didn't get to express yourself just now while still in a huff. If you're like me ... you'll say something you'll live to regret. LOL

Sarv, sorry your plans were canceled today, but I agree it looks like you'll be having a good one with the DGS. They grow up mighty fast and then won't want anything much to do with the "grown up" world.
To all those I've not spoken directly to ... please forgive me. No slight intended. Each of you make me laugh and bring a smile to my face. I'm making corn chowder, and it will be on the counter soon.
Hugs to all ... Elaine

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Forgot to mention before I left for work, I left a plate of chocolate chip cookies out for you all. I think a bowl of Elain's corn chowder would be good first though.

What a pretty drive in today. The sun is out and not a cloud in the sky. The snow is fresh and white, not yucky and grey yet from all the road traffic.

See ya!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Darius, lol, with your luck you would break a leg so don't even try!

Meezer, yes Samson does the same antics as Howard, runs along making grooves in the snow with his nose. He met my daughters dog. Samson thought, oh what fun to have a playmate but that old dog about 14 years old would not have anything to do with him ;-)

You are funny, Devitt, I bet you wear something different when you go out on the town?

I enjoyed sewing for myself and the girls, did not sew for the boys, later I started to quilt, now I can't my eyes are not good enough for those tiny stitches.
Yes, it snowed here, then it rained, then it snowed, now it is raining again, what a mess!

Everything will be sheer ice tonight, glad am not going any where.

Posted in the last thread, about my brain not funcioning properly

GM all!!!

Awww, look at Samson and Abby! Aren't they sweet together?!? I love the pic, Maria, thank you for sharing.

defoecat, check your D-mail.

DR, Congratulations on your son making it into Dental School. Now, put your bid in right away on having him go with the idea that you are waiting patiently for him to graduate, get into practice so you can be cared for by him in the manner to which you'd like to become accustomed.....LOL.

To everyone else who is cleaning, doing laundry, sewing, making Christmas goodies, cooking, making trips somewhere, etc., you're all making me ashamed of being such a piker. I've got a load of laundry in, but I'm still trying to recover from work last night. Oy vey, I can't wait to retire! I just don't have the stamina I used to have and I don't recuperate like I used to either.

(((hugs))) to all this morning and may you each have a safe and happy day! ~Babs~

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Well, busy in the Salon today,,,yippeeeeee so haven't had a moment to even check in til now. Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. It's bright, sunny and cold here this morning. Anybody need some sunshine? I'll send you some.

Defoe, you need some sunshine, so here is a generous helping for you!

Carol (even one) that is very exciting about your son getting accepted into the Dental school near home! You'll have him and his laundry on a regular basis I think.

Laundry today, sheets and the mattress pad. The pad is really thin in places, looks sorta lacey. Time to replace it. I will remember to put it back on the bed before I put on the sheets. It reminds me of a Ziggy cartoon a few years ago that my hubby clipped out and put on the mirror." First the pants, then the shoes". Awhile back somebody mentioned wearing one brown shoe and one black one. We had a friend who was an executive with Bell Telephone and did that one morning when he had dressed in the dark so as not to wake his wife. He was almost to work before he noticed it, then went home and changed one shoe and went back to work. He was quite late getting to work because his commute involved driving about 20 miles and then riding a ferry to Seattle. He noticed the mismatched shoes while sitting on the ferry. Rode the ferry back to the Island, drove home, changed shoe, drove back, got on ferry and by then it was almost lunch time.

Here's some pictures I took of my Christmas cactus in bloom. Actually I think it is Thanksgiving cactus, they have the points on the leaf margins. The red leaves are from too much sun. They may never be the same again and it was much prettier last year with the green leaves.

They are beautiful, Mary

They weather is crazy!! right now it is snowing like mad and very windy, now we are having a thunderstorm , this is too much!! Expect to lose elctricity any minute., they still have not the generator installed.

Maria, what's the holdup on the generator? Are they waiting for spring?

Hi everyone,
All y'all make me jealous with those beautiful Christmas cactus. Maybe mine will grow up to look like something by next year. LOL

Kelly, you are sooooo bad. Tempting us with those cheese fries like that! Now you *know* I can't handle all those carbs, girl. :)

Well, got the chowder almost done. Will have it for supper tonight. I've beat the laundry monster with the 2x4 and have most of the day off now. The DH is at an out of town meeting today so the baby and I have the car. LOL :) Wonder where we'll go? hehehe

Hi Defoe, am stretching out hands of friendship to you this afternoon.

Maria, please throw some snowballs to Samson for me. That really sounds like so much fun. LOL

Oh, by the way ... no rain today. It's only 58 but at least it's not raining. :)

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

That is just what I asked them, Darius, asap they said, HA

Elaine would not go outside now if some one paid me, I don't think you can imagine how bad it is

Hmmmm, so much to do ... just can't decide. LOL ;)

Well, I've finally started on the kitchen packing. I'm working on my good china and family pieces. It will be a strange Christmas without using them! I decided to take Mother's candlesticks to FL even though we may eat off paper plates at my sister's for Christmas. (Elaine, they are a pair of Italian white porcelain, 3 delicate rosebuds twined together around the candle.) I "may" take my grandmother's Jewel Tea Pitcher, mostly to be sure it doesn't get broken. My, what memories are in my cabinets!

My sister has good china but we packed up last year. I doubt she will want to unpck it for just one meal.
