If your looking for a plant / Kenton Space Cadet
Fair enough, I'll give it a try, I'm looking for 'Summer Dawn'. A trailer I bought on eBay several months back. It was doing great, then the fungus gnat larva gnawed it to nothing! It is a single pink trailing type. cant seem to find a photo of it.
It isn't that this one is all that gorgeous, it's more the perfectionist in me is needing to succeed in growing it from a crown. It wasn't expensive, only $2, but now that I know what I do, I want to give it a try again. (i.e. not so moist as to invite the fungus gnats to infest!)
Oh, but your plant was well worth over $23!
(Putting my name with 'Space Cadet' is fitting somedays!)
My little plant is priceless. Grown with love.
Good point, Allison. We AVers could certainly save ourselves some money and more with a bit of communication. Perhaps a suggestion of:
"Before you buy any plant from E-bay or otherwise, ask your friend."
After all, you may have something that the friend wants, eh?

I know! I just did some ebay research and saw a chimera that went for $61.00 It was beautiful, but wow, I've never spent that kind of $ on a single begonia. Several perhaps, but not one. i might just be in trouble now! LOL.
I'm finding myself hanging out here more than the begonia forum!
Haha...and Another one bites the dust....
MsC :-D
We got'er, Ladies.
Allison, Where would we put our wish list? On our home page? It's funny that you posted this since just this evening I placed bids on a lot of plants. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Begonia, I too saw that chimera that went for $61.00. It makes me sick since I had that chimera for a long time, but lost it a couple of years ago when my beloved grandma fell ill and passed away. I lost a great deal of plants then.
Stephanie
I didn't post my whole wish list *laugh*
But I will tomorrow most likely.
I am not ignoring you guys..it is just my husband took the computer down to put up our new desk and it is still down :)
I am typing from work
I'm not sure of the wish list page ? You can put them here ig you want. I was kidding Kenton as I sent him plant Spcae Cadet and I sent Begonia King's Treausre :))
I did not see the $ 61.00 Chimera ? Which plant was it ?
Good luck on your bids Stephanie :))
Allison
Allison, here's the link to it. It is a beauty! But OUCH! expensive!

Begonia :)) Thanks but it would not come up ? It said try from home page. Do you have the item number please ? Thanks bunches, Allison
Allison,
The plant was a sport of Emerald Love, item #7728127606. It sold for $61.00.
I've been thinking I should put my "haves" and "wishes" on my DG Trade List (click on the "trading" tab at the top of the page), under a separate heading for AVs. That would give everybody a place to look to see if I had something they might want and vice versa...
You don't have to list every kind individually.... I'm thinking I'll enter lists, like put in "Minis I have" and then put a list of names under the description.... or put in a "want" like "girl leaf violets" and then a wish list of ones I'm especially looking for under the description...
You can put pictures in the Trade Lists too.
The only thing is that sometimes listing can lead to lots of inquiries, not all of which are even polite (I've had Dmails that basically said "I want" and then a long list of seeds). That's been discussed elsewhere, and I figure "no" is a fine response to an unsolicited request like that. You can cut down on that sort of thing by listing as "trade only" even if you mean that you might send for postage to one of your buddies on the forum...
Here's the item # 7728127606
and how about Fishermans Paradise, anyone have leaves?

I couldnt stop drooling!
Gosh Emerald Love went that higj $$$$ ? I bought one from Rob's a few years ago but gave it to my sister. I don't thinks that hard yo find.
What I was thinking befroe you bid high on something see if any one has iy yo share . Sorry I dont have last two AV / Oh had many Summer Dawns a one time and they we hard o get rid of I put in boxes as gifts , I Wil keep my eyes open for them.
Begonia,
Wow! I wish I had leaves to share. Beautiful.
I, too, have seen the Chimeras go that high - ya gotta want one pretty bad to pay that kind of money for it!
I have ordered from this seller in the past though :)
She is a fabulous lady to work with and always sends me an extra goodie.
She just sent me a jupiters joy plantlet not to long ago..I can't wait to see what it grows into
Oh WOW :)
Now I am really excited! And she sent me that as a free gift :)
Her plants really are special and the plantlets arrived very healthy :)
Once mine grows up a lil bit...I will be happy to share :)
I have a young fisherman's paradise...It will be a couple of months before I could put down leaves from it though :)
If you don't find any in the meantime...let me know and I will hook you up :)
ooh! ooh! ooh! That 'Fisherman's Paridise' is OUTSTANDING!!!
Is it a chimera, or will it come true from a leaf? I would LOVE to arrange a special trade for that one... and I'm willing to wait! (I figure Begonia has dibs on the first baby from it.) I'll try hard to find something equally wonderful in return....
BTW, Allison, I don't think it was 'Emerald Love' that went for $61, but rather a chimera sport of that variety?
Yeah, me too on that Fisherman's Paradise! I'd be happy to get in line.....!
Betsy
Yeah I noticed that after Jill Sport of Emerald Love, still a lot for it don't you think ?
Fisherman's Paradise Nice Vintage growing Large always seen at the flower shows :))

" Not a Chimera"
FC class picture ones I've seen in person and babies I grew picture does not do it justice .
"not a chimera" -- Yipeee! That should make it easier for me to get my paws on one of those lovelies!
"picture does not do it justice" -- drooooool! Now I *really* want one, LOL!
Lorry, we'll all be hoping that your 'Fisherman's Paridise' does really well! :-)
I hate to admit how little I know, but could someone tell me what a chimera is and how you know that it is or isn't? Thanks for any help you can give.
april, look here
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/556407/
Thank you! Right under my nose, should have looked here 1st! Will try to read more before asking.
sometimes it hard to find the info. especially when you do a 'search' in the forums. Searching Chimera would bring a lot of results that you would still have to plow through to find what you are looking for. up until last week, I didnt know what a chimere was either!
I have some really nice Space babies coming up and the variegation on babies are always fabulous :)) Kenton and everyone you should put leaves down from all your plants ! Allison
Yes...it is quite lovely :)
I would agree with Violet...we will all want some of those!
Are the Space babies that you refer to part of those that were taken into space as part of an experiment? I recently viewed those on a site and was very tempted to buy one, they are gorgeous! If possible I would love the opportunity to buy one or some leaves?
Space Cadet is a neam of an African violet. It's a variegated Semi-miniature by S. Sorano. Iy's also a fantasy bloomer. I sent one to Kenton but have leaves down and other plant. Wondering it I should sell the other plant sense I have a few babies growing as last Space Cadet on Ebay sold for over $23.00 . lol
Now the Everfloris Space babies are Optimaras by Holtkamp.
I have some of them and leaves down and some babies of several of them. The cheapest you can buy a plant from a Vendor is aout $8.95 and higher.
Optimara Evergrace... I have grown many, many of her :)) So preetty.
FC picture
I have seen one site selling 7 of these for 49.00..I have considered it! They are gorgeous!
The space ones that is

They are breath taking, especially Evergrace! I did see them on the web last night and was sooo tempted.
From what I have picked up from the forum and looking at the AVs on Ebay, you guys are making pretty good change- they are selling for more on Ebay than I saw them at Nurserys, good for you!
When I lived in New Jersey, there was an African Violet nursery not far from me. It was simply FANTASTIC to visit that place and to see thousands and thousands of square feet of nothing but African violets! Prices were quite decent, too. Nothing like that around here in Ilinois, though the stores are finally wising up and offering more interesting violets for sale than they used to. I got 20 gorgeous ones for 2 dollars apiece at Kroger last year!
I have leaves from fishermans paradise!
Would be happy to put you both on the list...dmail me to remind me :)
LOL..I got them from a friend
Well the rare plants sell for a lot. The Space baby's from Bluebirds are $8.95 each. From Selective gardeners I think it is who sells them for Optimara a plug is around $15.00 now and a large plants almost $30.00 and these are nurseries not Ebay . Most nueseries sell Noids
not named rare plants that are registered.
When I use to sell I would start my plants for about .99 cents to $2.95. Now I am starting them $4.75. one little leaf.
But they are rare and all named. I pay big bucks to buy the laves to grow the plants I am selling. Then there is 6-9 months of Soil-less mixture, lights, fertilizer, electric for 12-16 hours each day of lights, pots...I pay any where to start with $2.00 up to I have paid $30.00 for a leaf. My Russiand leaves cost me $4.25 each a plant cost me $9,95 plus shipping and this was from a Nursery.
The the leaf may die. But from the time I buy the leaf and set it to gorw in soil-less mixtrue and it is ready to sell it's about 9 months....
Then when I list it on Ebay the listing Fee is for an item under 9.95 is .35 cents and gallery .35 cents there is .70 cents I pay Ebay wether it sells or not. Then when and if it sells bay takes a final fee. Then is pople pay Pay Pal , you are charged another fee.
So say I list a set of leaves, or baby plant for $2.00 . Right off the top I owe Ebay . 70 cents. WHn and if it sells one a $2.00 item they take another . 11 cents. So I'm up to .owing Ebay .81 cents. Then if the Pay Pal Pal. The transaction for that amount is like .50 cents So I made . 70 cents on that plant or set of leaves.
Now don't forget everything you list you pay a listing fee even if it does not sell. Like I just sold 21 sets of leaves but I did not sell 22 sets of leaves and I still owe Ebay for the listings of 22 that did not sell :((.
Then you must take into account what the leaf to grow the plants, and the 9 months of care to do this off your profit.
So just say I did not count what it cost me to buy the leaf to grow the plant for 9 months to sell it...
One the $2.00 sale I made a whole . 70 cents . WOW and also don't forget you still owe Ebay for the 22 auctions I listed that did not sell. :(( So see it's extremly hard to make money. And even if some go higher Ebay charges a higher Final fee and Pay Pal charges a higher fees. lol
I give one hundred times ( I do try to sll a few to have more $$ to buy leaves to grow to share as my low Disibilty income give me zero cents extra :))) more away free just for shipping . This most times is better for me as with all the fees its extremly hard to make a lot of money.
grow only named African violets, and have paid a lot of money to buy the leaves to do so. .
There is a big hugh difference from the ones you buy in the Nursery , growcery stores, HD and so on....
Allison
