chianti lily

Somehow every spring I end up with 30 or sooo more just jumping into my cart... what can I say? I have some with my Lantana (matching colors!) and the Lantana keeps them standing strait and tall. Daylilies, Iris, and Glads I dig and split every three years - so far it works fine around here. The only issue I have had is the rabbits love to dig and eat the bulbs if I forget to add some blood meal on top soil.

I never thought of planting glads with Lantana to keep them straight. I've never planted them because I didn't want to have to stake them. When DH and I married, we had glads in pots at the alter. We had an outside wedding and the wind was so strong that they kept blowing over. Every time I think of glads I remember that day.

I tried to plant them with the roses, but the thorns tore them up. The Lantana just keeps them standing right up you just have to work on the colors being ok together.

Lantanas don't especially like a lot of water. Are glads like that too?

So far... They have been growing fine together for the last two year with no problems.

very interesting. I wonder what other plants could you use with glads for support? How tall do your glads get to be?

My glads get from 2 - 4 feet depending on type. if you can get something with hard branches, that will let the root area get good sunlight for the first two feet it should work fine. I am going to try a few in the pepper patch this year and see how that goes.

Would plants like salvia greggi work? Hot lip sage is fairly woody too. Do you tie them to the branches?

Worth a shot, aould look great! I dont tie anythng, they dont stand totally strait but stand for me just like I like them.
