looking for Sanguinea seeds

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

I don't know how long they should last. The Sangs do like it cool tho, and I don't know about direct sun in your area and this time of year. All of that stuff makes a difference.

Did you get many buds? Take a picture of the whole plant when it gets the max of blooms. Would love to see it.

Guess What!!!!

I got seeds in that pod!! The outside of the pod is really lumpy. My first pod!! Not much of a big deal since I used pollen from the same color of Sang so we know what they will be.

Now, the pod is about 3 inches long and if I were to put a tape measure on it at the fattest part it would be about 3 inches around. AND LUMPY!!!! So, now my question is, what now? When would I know they were ready to pick? Do I have to put a sock or something around it to keep the seeds from falling?

How long before they are ready to use? What changes should I expect in the pod?

For anyone of you who doesn't know, this is an orange/red Sanguinea. I polinated in my sister's greenhouse with 2 degree weather outside in December.

jeanette, congratulations! so excited for you. please keep us posted. and i know i'm not alone when i say, "photos, please!" thanks.

mine fell off. the last few storms did it. on the bright side, more buds are forming.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Your flowers fell off? Or your seedpods? Whichever, that's too bad. What kind of low temps are you getting there now? I know you are getting a lot of that rain that Oregon and Washington are getting too. That could be pretty hard on flowers.

Corte Madera, CA

both =(.

tonight it will drop to 37F. not so bad. thanks for asking.

perhaps you can give me an advice: my baby sangs have curly leaves! they've been growing under lights, but i'll take them out tomorrow to get some fresh air and sunshine. thank you!

john! you've been SOOOOOO quiet =). how are your baby sangs doing?

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Curled leaves sound like maybe something is sucking the sap out of them. Aphids??? Maybe someone else can think of something.

How big arethey? Send a picture.

Corte Madera, CA

if something's sucking the sap out of them, it's something i can't see. color-wise, the leaves are dark green, which i like! more often, i have anemic looking seedlings...here they are in 4" pots.

i'll take better photos tomorrow.

thanks!

Moonglow and all, I loaded a new operating system on my machine and have been offline for a while. Still loading programs and trying to get my machine setup like I had it.....Here is a picture taken some weeks ago, The Sang seedlings are in clay pots to the right of picture, they are doing great! You should see them now. I'll try and get a more recent picture. All my Brugs are gowing wildly. I have them under a Metal Halide Lamp. You don't have to have them close to the bulb with one of these! I've been using Superthrive, and misting the leaves with a hormone-like protein called Messenger. The potting mix is a combination of Miricle Grow, Pearlite, and a small proportion of Pigeon doo......gotta be carefull with that as it can burn plants, it's super high in Nitrogen tho. I don't know if it's the lights, soil mixture, additives or combination of all, but the plants are now fighting for space with leaves overlapping and a couple feet tall. I'm glad I didn't start anymore than I did as I can see, before spring, space will be at a premium.

This was a cutting from Brinda Delph, It has doubled in size, so I put it in an unheated bedroom till spring to make room for the Sangs, (which are much smaller, from seed) under the Halide lamp.

John your plants really look good. Those in the bottom right look like African Violets.

Annapet, the color of yours is really good so it is so hard to tell what is wrong with them. I want to say some kind of mineral deficiency but I would think they would lose the color.

You need someone besides me to analyze them.

Kell, maybe you can help her or suggest someone who could.

Myrtle Beach, SC

Brenda always gives great plants, so doews tctopcat. I have bought quite a few from both, all are doing great ! God bless, Margo

I think we are going to have to go find Kell and drag her over here to look at them. LOL Jeanette

Ok, I sent her a message so hopefully she will see it. Jeanette

Sorry, I have been so busy lately I have not been around so much. Poor Annapet. I have never seen such leaves so I really have no clue but off hand I would say it is a nutritional deficiency.

Sangs also are so virus prone, I wonder if they have a virus.

But I wouldn't be surprised if it is a nutritional deficiency. I have read that a phosphorus deficiency is characterized by a dark green color and mild leaf roll. To start with I would foliar spray with a high phosphorus fertilizer, a weak solution every couple of days for a while and see if the new leaves look normal.

I will send this thread on to Susie who is an expert at nutritional deficiencies. She also has so much greenhouse experience she probably has seen this condition before!

Corte Madera, CA

thank you all for the cheers and concern. i just checked that date and it's been 10 days later.

my sang babies are fattening up. the new set of leaves are NOT curly, and the shape looks like sang leaves. they are still DARK GREEN in color, which i LOVE.

my yellow sang has more buds. but then again, we have more rain coming =(.

i hope you are all having a great week so far!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh great Annapet. I lost track of this thread. I think I told Susie to look, I bet she forgot!! I guess they had the baby blues. LOL

Corte Madera, CA

it's all cool, kell. she's a busy busy lady. imagine, she's also giving away thousands of seeds at the moment!

guess what i'm doing? watching a sang seedling (8"-10") auction on e-bay.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Which sang is it Annapet? Is it that one they called an Eagle tree or something like that? I know there are several on there.

Corte Madera, CA

jeanette, it didn't say. but it's casacolacreek's auction.

Corte Madera, CA

this is not an ad, but saw something on e-bay. the one i was watching went for $12.50.

EDITED TO SAY:

it has been removed. sang "eagle tree" rooted cutting. started at $8.00. + $2.00 handling fee.
