Hi,
I have a dwarf poinciana tree, also known as bird of paradise bush, that has set lots of seeds. This is my first year with it, but if you'd like to try the seeds I'd be happy to send them. I could probably do about 20 sets of 5-6 seeds each. This is a beautiful tree that's more cold hardy than the royal poinciana. The flowers start out orange & yellow and then turn all red as they age. They look like little orchids. We planted it in June and it's just finishing up it's bloom. I've had neighbors and complete strangers stop to ask about it.
Let's spread the beauty!
Leslie
Please mark your SASBE somewhere with "Dwarf Pionciana" and send to:

Postage is going to be the same as what it would be to send your envelope to me. Usually one 37 cent stamp will do for a small bubble envelope.

CLOSED: Dwarf Poinciana seeds for SASBE
I am sending you a SASBE right away!
Zarcanat
me too please
I'd love to try some please! I have to go buy some bubble envelopes though, will send as soon as I can. Thank you!
Diana
Woould this work as a houseplant? I imagine that's what zarcanat is planning. If so, count me in!
xxx, Carrie
i would love some too please
I would love some seeds. I'm sending out sasbe. Thank you!
Wow! What a response! I'm thrilled.
This one is reportedly 15ft. when grown outside. I'd think a large planter would work on a patio but I don't know about inside unless you have tall ceilings. I forgot to mention that it needs full sun, so take that into consideration.
This isn't a good picture, but the poinciana is between the two rose bushes on the left of the pic. That one is about 8 Ft. now. They grow quickly.
Let me know if you're still interested. I'll list the folks I'm saving for above.
Leslie
mine is going out tommorow.
I guess I have a Carribean heart in my New England climate. In the winter I'm not sure there's enough sun at the windows to grow my low-light house plants. I'd better say "no" until we retire to the virgin islands! [I can dream, can't I?]
xxxxx, Carrie
Bummer Carrie! Better luck next time.
Leslie
ok great ill be sending mine out tomorrow as well thxs

I would love to have some too please! If you still have some left. Will send SASBE right away.
Thank you
That plant is beautiful. Do you think that I could grow it as a potted plant? If so, I would like some seed too please. Does anyone know how long it will take to flower from seed? Thank you
Hi Leslie,
I'll send a SASBE.
Jan...

Brenda
my sasbe went out today thxs for sharing
Do you still have seeds?
would like to have if still available. I'll put the SASE in the mail tomorrow. Thanks
Hi Everyone,
I still have seeds so I'm going to add all those who've requested since the last time I updated the list.
Yes, they can be grown in LARGE, like patio sized, pots but remember they need full sun.
I don't know how long they take to bloom.

Wow! I just counted and have over 300 seeds, so can do lots more sets than I thought. Above is the link to the plant files info. The comments should be very helpful for those considering trying this gorgeous tree/shrub.
Call your friends and neighbors!
Leslie
I just checked out the plantfiles link and I realized something. Those are grown where I live in zone 7. They are very popular here and we call them Bird of Paradise Bushes. I hope this helps anyone who previously thought that they lived in too cold a zone for it. I actually have a related plant in my yard.

It was so interesting to read the plant files that were in the hyperlink. Most of the folks that made comments were from TX, NM or AZ so I'm anxious to "bring" it to the Panhandle. Jessmerritt, would you believe I was born in Roswell? People kid me all the time.
Yippee! More takers. Ya'll have to send pictures to let me know how this goes for you.
I'm adding you three above.
Leslie
Id love some how much postage ya need.
I would love to try some seeds in CA. If you still have some .
I'll send my sase tomorrow.
Thank You!
Linda
SASBE on it's way
Thank you again
Kerrie
Jess, and to add to it, my father was Air Force and I was born in 1949. I think my brother still believes that's why I'm a little strange! lol
Yippee! Thanks, Leslie. You'll probably have sore wrists from sealing up all the envelopes when you send them. Yippee, again. I got seeds! SASBE on the way. Thanks again.
SASBE on the way! I hope I did it right, this is the first time I've sent one. What I did was put two 37 cent stamps and a self addressed lick-to-stick label inside a bubble envelope, taped it shut and sent it off with your addy handwritten on the front. Was there anything I should have done differently? Guess I should have asked before I sent it off but yesterday was such a busy day for me. I hope the postage was enough, if not PLMK and I'll send more!
(is there a faq on sending SASBE's etc by any chance?)
Thanks!
Diana
