Colored Double

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

I got these seeds a few years ago from my friend Vickey Klaas. I think she bought them from Susie on eBay originally. What do we think?

oh, wowee! clare, how long did it take to bloom from germination? is it fragrant?

=) this newbie is sort of fresh from reading "evaluating seedlings" lol. so good to see you here. everytime i visit family in oxnard, i say to myself, "clare lives nearby!"

i hope you had a wonderful thanksgiving.

The leaves look great too, Clare. You need to give it more time to mature. I find doubles take more than the first bloom cycle to really see what you have. It is looking good though! It may even get darker in color. Does it have a fragrance?

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks, Annapet and Kell!

Kell, this is the second time it bloomed, but the first time was only a few months ago. I'll definitely hang on to it and give it more time to get some color. The fragrance is the same lovely fragrance as my double white. Thanks!

Annapet, that's so sweet to think of me when you visit Oxnard. I had a great Thanksgiving and hope you did also. I think I sowed these seeds around January of 2002.

Very pretty, Clare! If this is their 1st season to bloom, they may even be better next year!! Hang on these youngsters! I hope they give you many years of pleasure!!

Thanks, everyone! I was thinking that it is a little darker than my Creamsickle. I'll keep watching it for sure. Thanks!

Is that one of yours Cala??

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks, everyone!

Susie, this might be one of your seeds. Either my friend Vickey Klaas purchased them from you on eBay, or someone did and passed them on to her, and she passed them on to me! The seed envelope that I received read "Colored Doubles" but had no name on it.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It could be mine. I sold a bunch of those on ebay.I pollinated a bunch of double blooms and marked the cross on the stem with a sharpie, but when it came time to harvest I couldn't read the cross, so I just mixed them all together and sold them. I used Creamsickle, Golden Lady, Enchanted Double White, Simone, Tiara and Candida Double white as the pod parents and only used pollen from colored brugs on them.

Cool! Thanks, Susie! I'll send you an email:-)

This one is definitely getting darker and more orange.

I can only hope it darkens up even more than this. Susie thinks it might have Tiara as one of the parents.

HI Clare, She's looking better all the time. Keeping fingers crossed that she proves worthy of a name after a couple years of blooming.

I would be proud to have her in my collection anyday.

Is the name Duchess taken for a Brug? I'd like to name her Duchess after my girl who passed away nearly a year ago and who I think about all the time:-)

Clare, I remember well how heart-broken you were when Duchess died. If you name this one and the name is not taken, I think it would be a very befitting honor for your loving companion, Duchess.

All the more reason to grow it for a couple of years to be sure it is a good specimen.

You wouldn't want a brug gone bad named after your beloved Dutchess. (beautiful name )

Doubles can be a challenge to find one that blooms consistenly in good form.

All the best luck with growing her.

Thanks, Kay. You are a dear to remember that. You and others here really helped me through that most difficult and painful loss.

Thanks, Shirley. You are absolutely right and point well-taken. I'll be watching her carefully over the next couple of years and will send cuttings to Susie and Kay so that they can observe it as well in their respective areas.

Oh Clare. Such pain. I think Duchess is a great name for your brug. Duchess was a big dog and this is a big bloom. What a nice way to honor your dog.

I am so impressed again that you got HG to bloom.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks so much, Kell. You are so sweet. I think HG was just beginner's luck. It doesn't seem to want to bloom this year for me. I don't think I even have any buds this year.

Here is a couple more pictures of 'Duchess' today and a few others from my garden for your viewing pleasure:-)
